A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA,
RECOGNIZING THE SUPREME SACRIFICE GIVEN BY MEN AND
WOMEN IN THE UNITED STATES MILITARY, AND THE
CONTRIBUTIONS THEY HAVE MADE TO OUR FREEDOMS AND
SAFETY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills recognizes the contributions of the
men and women in the United States military, their efforts in protecting our country and our way of
life; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature is considering an act to designate the HONOR AND
REMEMBER flag as an emblem of the State, that this flag be displayed at specified locations; on
specified days and in a specified manner;and
WHEREAS, this act was introduced by State Representative Danny Burgess, who also
serves in the military and it is appropriate that this flag be displayed by local governments in
memory of the sacrifice of our fallen military personnel; and
WHEREAS, the Honor and Remember Flag is a form of remembrance of the service and
sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have given their
lives in the line of duty ; and
WHEREAS, the design of the flag has symbolic significance: the red field signifies the
blood spilled by our military; the blue star represents active service in military conflict;the white
border recognizes the purity of sacrifice; the gold star signified the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior
in active duty; the folded flag signifies the final tribute to an individual life that a family
sacrificed to its country; and the flame is an eternal reminder of the spirit who has departed this
life.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills,
sitting in regular session this 8th day of June, 2015 does support the legislative action to designate
the HONOR AND REMEMBER flag as a fitting tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by our
military service personnel.
