A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING THE CITY'S
PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE FOR EXPANSION OF U.S. 301 AS
BEING IN THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE CITIZENS AND
BUSINESSES OF THE CITY.
WHEREAS, It is in the best interests of the citizens and businesses of the City of Zephyrhill
that U.S. 301 continue to be enhanced with two-way traffic and operational improvements versu
the DOT preferred alternative which would consist of one way traffic on US 301 and 6th Stree ;
and
WHEREAS, Local business along U.S. 301 would be adversely affected by the implementatio
of DOT preferred alternative because there would be no two-way local access; and
WHEREAS, the City's vision as expressed in the City Community Redevelopment Plan refer
to development and redevelopment opportunities between 6th and 7th St., which potential)
expand the economic and financial opportunities for property owners and businesses along thos
roadways; and
WHEREAS, The City's preferred alternative is that the U.S. 301 will remain a local two-way
"main street", with operational improvements where possible and enhancement of 6th and 7t
Streets as "mobility streets"to address FDOT regional traffic needs; and
WHEREAS, Peak-hour volumes are more evenly distributed across all three corridors, rather
than focused on U.S. 301 and 6th St.; and
WHEREAS, The City's preferred alternative delays the timing necessary to construct the thir
lane on 6th and 7th Streets due to the more evenly dispersed traffic trips along three corridor
versus two; and
WHEREAS, The City's preferred alternative would not adversely impact the City Histori
District.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills
Florida sitting_in. gar session formally expressing their preference for the City's preferre
alternative:'ds l&ng-in he best interests of the citizens of the City of Zephyrhills.
