A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA REQUESTING THAT THE PASCO COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO RESURRECT AND
PRIORITIZE THE CR54 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FROM US
HIGHWAY 301 TO 23an STREET WITH THE CITY 50% FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE"
WHEREAS, the Pasco Board of County Commissioners and the City of Zephyrhills hay
previously agreed upon the need of improvements for CR 54 from the intersection of US
Highway 301, eastward to 23rd Street in Zephyrhills to address congestion; and
WHEREAS, this agreed concept led to the passage an inter-local agreement for engineerin
services, in 2010 with 50% - 50% funding for engineering services to make improvements fo
this Pasco County owned highway; and
WHEREAS, the County, upon expending City and County funds for preliminary engineering
chose to remove this project from the work program, citing declining revenue; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation, the County and the City have entere
into agreement on a separate project at the US Highway 301 and CR54 intersection (jus
immediately to the west of original CR54 Improvement Project); and
WHEREAS, the City Council is pleased to have partnered with FDOT and the County on tha
project offering equal share funding; and
WHEREAS, City Council recognizes that those needed improvements at the US Highway
301/CR54 intersection will then only emphasize the congestion and inadequate performance o
CR54 immediately east toward Zephyrhills High School, Wire Road and 2311 Street: and
WHEREAS, the City Council has been, and remains, committed to partnering with the Pasc
County Board of County Commissioners to design and construct the needed four lan
improvements to CR54 from US Highway 301 eastward toward 23rd Street.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills,
Florida, as follows:
Section 1. The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners is hereby requested to review
and resurrect the CR54 Improvement Project. Further it is requested that the Board of County
Commissioners recognize the great need for these improvements to this County Road, prioritize
the project and to program funding at 50% of the design and Construction, knowing that the City
of Zephyrhills is a committed partner in improving this County owned highway.
Section 2. The City Council requests that the Mayor and City Council President present this
Resolution to the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners in a regular meeting.
