A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA RENAMING THE "MEADOWOOD PAW
PARK" TO THE "GUNNER PAW PARK" AND DEDICATING THE
PARK IN HONOR OF THE SERVICE OF CITY OF ZEPHYRHILLS
POLICE K9 GUNNER; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, in June of 2006, the Zephyrhills Police Department acquired a German Sheppar
named Gunner to serve with a police officer as a police K9 unit; and
WHEREAS, Zephyrhills Police Officer Joseph Rinaldo was selected to train and team up wit
Police K9 Gunner; and
WHEREAS, this successful team became very effective in tracking fleeing criminal suspect
and the apprehension of individuals concealing illegal drugs within their vehicles or upo
themselves; and
WHEREAS, Gunner provided his expert service to our City and to neighboring jurisdiction
needing assistance,thus making Zephyrhills a safer community; and
WHEREAS, On August 6, 2009, Police Officer Rinaldo and Police K9 Gunner were in pursui
of a fleeing suspect when Gunner was struck by a vehicle and fell in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the City of Zephyrhills wishes to recognize and honor Police K9 Gunner for hi
dedicated service.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills
Florida, as follows:
Section 1. The dog park now known as the "Meadowood Paw Park" is hereby re-named th
"Gunner Paw Park" in recognition of Zephyrhills Police K9 Gunner.
Section 2. The Park is hereby dedicated in honor of the service and sacrifice given by Polic
K9 Gunner for the citizens of Zephyrhills.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective on August 10, 2013.
