A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA,
REQUESTING THE PASCO LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION SUPPORT
CONSTRUCTION OF 4-LANES OF SR 56 FROM MEADOW POINTE TO
U.S. HIGHWAY 301 TO PROVIDE FOR IMPROVED TRAFFIC FLOW,
ENHANCED POTENTIAL FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND
ACCESS ALLOWING FOR THE GROWTH OF THE SOUTHERN TIER OF
PASCO COUNTY.
WHEREAS,the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills respectfully requests the Pasco
Legislative delegation support the construction of four-lanes of SR 56 from the intersection with
Meadow Pointe Boulevard east to U.S. Highway 301 as a continuation of the road from its
intersection with SR 54 west of I-75; and
WHEREAS,the City of Zephyrhills, and those Pasco County citizens residing within the
city limits and surrounding areas rely on road construction provided through legislative action and
• charged to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). As residential growth increases and
• business &industrial growth occurs it is vital to the Zephyrhills area and those living and working
within southeastern Pasco County to be provided with adequate transportation and road networks;
and
WHEREAS,the City of Zephyrhills is a member of the Pasco County Economic
Development Council (PEDC) and sits in the southern tier of Pasco County that has been identified
as a major growth region that incorporates the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport which has undergone
$5 million in facility improvements; and
WHEREAS,the City of Zephyrhills requests that the FDOT revisit its construction
schedules and based on budget priorities of the Pasco County Legislative Delegation provide funds
and scheduling to construct a four lane roadway within the right of way designed for State Road 56.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Zephyrhills,
as follows:
Section 1. The City of Zephyrhills has partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation
and Pasco County Board of County Commissioners on numerous road projects that benefit city,
county and state residents and believe it necessary that SR 56 be a 4-lane roadway.
Section 2. The City of Zephyrhills recognizes the contributions of the state road system and
seeks to enhance that system in southeastern Pasco County.
Section 3. The City of Zephyrhills requests that the Pasco County Board of County
Commissioners join in the City's quest to have State Road 56 constructed as a 4-lane highway.
Section 4. The City of Zephyrhills recognizes that a 4-lane highway is necessary to adequately
serve the transportation and economic development needs of the region.
Section 5 °. . :The City Clerk shall provide executed copies of this Resolution to the Pasco County
Legislative=Delegation.'and to the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners.
Section- g yResolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
