For seventeen days, February 20
1' through March 8,the Lady Bulldogs Var-
sity Basketball team captured the atten-
lion of the school and community as
eleven athletes played their way to the
state finals.With a regular season record
1 of 24-1,the girls then won the District 7
I championship by defeating Citrus (55-
_
37), Hernando (52-49), and Land
O'Lakes(48-43).
On Tuesday, February 25, the
phenomenal crowd support encouraged
the team in its win over Auburndale,
60-47. Thursday night, adult fans and
screaming students alike lost their
voices cheering the girls to the Regional
4 championship over Lake Wales, 38-
36.At home on Saturday night,March 1,
over 850 spectators chanted unceasing-
ly as the Lady Bulldogs clinched the Sec-
tional II title with a last-second free
1 � throw,48-46.
� Thursday, March 6, marked the first
appearance for any Pasco County girls'
basketball team in the state tournament.
In a nerve-racking game. ZHS defeated
Hallandale, 61-58, in four overtimes,
setting a new state record. In the final
game,Saturday,March 8,the girls lost to
Gibbs, 51-37, before a crowd of 1,953,
which set another state record for atten-
dance at one session of the girls' state
finals.
