GIRLS' AND BOYS' STATE
Girls' and Boys' State were organized to develop interest in the study of government, to
foster civic leadership, and to stimulate a desire to protect the privileges and responsibilities
of our democratic form of government. The representatives were nominated by the faculty,
and the delegates were chosen through an interview conducted by the sponsoring unit.
Delegates traveled to Florida State University for a chance to get "inside" politics and
• discover how and why it works. This was a democracy-in-action program which enabled the
participants to view local, state, and national elections with a new insight. Not only did they
gain a new understanding of patriotism and national pride, but they made new friends and
shared experiences that will stay with them for many years to come. This was a unique
opportunity, and our congratulations go out to tomorrow's leaders.
