"A lot has changed with softball since I've been in high school. For starters, the field has changed. Our dugout was just a fence. Now they have cement walls with a painted bulldog on the outside and cubbies for their equipment." Sandy also explains that when she was in high school her softball team never dreamed of playing 25 games like the team does now. After graduating from school, Sandy also received a scholarship to play softball at Pasco-Hernando Community College. Since the school opened, the softball team has started to ac- quire various different benefits that previous teams could never have. In 1986, the girls only had one uniform, a short sleeve black jersey and orange pants. This year,Lauren explains, they have a choice between three uniforms to wear. The girls also have their own locker room, which Sandy Bahr never experienced while playing in high school. "We a never had our own locker room,"she shares,"We usually just used the P.E.locker room if we needed too." Ever since freshman year,Lauren Pasquale has played var- sity softball and has contributed to their victories in her positions short- stop and pitcher. Because her graduation is here, she is working harder ' than ever to maintain her good stats and excellent playing. "At the end of our season last year,my batting average was around.312," Lauren ex- plains. By the looks of it,all of her hard work has paid off because she has recently received a scholarship to the College of Charleston. With softball now her future, Lauren will be traveling all across the country doing what she loves. In his time, the airport golf course was used for practice and meets. The course was a rough one, however, the only other courses were in neigh- boring cities such as New Tampa and Wesley Chapel. During an average meet, his team was lucky if ten people showed up to watch them play. Some of his golfing idols were Jack Nicholas and Tom Watson. The Bahr name pops up often when looking at the history of the golf team at our school. His brother Kevin and sister Melanie played in the 70s also. As a matter of fact.Melanie was a#1 female golf player in her time. Lady golf- ers were not popular or common in the 70s. When asked if he could recall the names of professional female golfers from his day, Lenny Bahr could not re- call any. Times have changed and junior Tiffany Bahr(Lenny's niece)is very glad about that. Tiffany just completed her third year on the high school golf team and when asked could easily name some popular LPGA golfers."I have mentors such as Paula Creamer and Natlaie Golbis." Lenny's son,Cory(10th grade)just finished his second year. He and 1 ! __ junior teammate Cody Nichols are at the top of their game right now. All three of these current golfers have a passion for the sport. Mr. Bahr even admits that,"...community and parental involvement in golf has greatly improved over the past thirty years." These teens have more followers at meets, more scholar- ship opportunities, and a variety of places to practice and play. By Rachel Brown Devin Rogers,Jacob Bridges&Mr.Cuddy
