Today,Rachel Brown enjoys learning about Adobe Photoshop and InDesign as part of the journalism class. Without the computer. Rachel's job as editor would include some very tedious late nights(that is if no one accidentally deletes a very important file). Mrs.Neukom shared that the yearbook was done as an after school project by a small group of students. Browsing through Anne's 1958 annual, the two editors discovered some interesting differences from one generation to another, however, many things never change. The 100 page annual Ann helped create consisted mainly of student/Lstaff head and group shots with an occasional sports action or event shot. Most of that goes back to lack of camera equipment. Today.Rachel has the luxury of using professional cameras such as"Buddy,"her favorite Canon Rebel EOS. In the 1950s,yearbook staff members did not have any cameras—all photographs •r ' were supplied by professional photographers or community members who hap- pened to have access to such rare technology. Today.every yearbook student has a camera. Without access to digital cameras and desktop publishing tech- nology, the 300 page publication would be almost impossible. "It was an easier day,"Mrs. Neukom explains. In the 50s yearbook was not an actual class, only an extracurricular. Mostly seniors were on the staff;there- -. most of the yearbook seemed to center around the senior class. Today.the • Zephilsco staff is made up of students from all grade levels(with Rachel Brown and Jon Vogt being the official first freshmen allowed on staff). This helps create a more balanced book. Rachel shares the many hours spent working on such a large project. "I have two journalism classes dedicated to working on the book. Many days I spend my III► j lunch and after school working also." Content seemed to cover many similar areas. People, sports. clubs, and important fr school events fill both the 1958 and 2011 annual. One event that has clearly stood the test of time is homecoming. No Zephilsco would be complete without a thorough coverage of this event. •IL • By Rachel Brown
