The Smith family started its six generations of
Zephyrhills natives in the late 1800s with the arrival
of Francis Smith. Many had long, prosperous lives, but at
the young age of 26, Francis and his 1-year-old daughter,
Bessie Smith, died a week apart from each other from •'
the measles. The long list of family members in the Smith
cemetery includes 66 known Smith descendants. _ ,
Matilda "Tillie" Reutimann was born in 1910 and
attended Zephyrhills High School. Cullen E. Smith,
Sr., who also attended Zephyrhills, caught her eye
and in 1933 they got married. Tillie and Cullen
went on to have Patricia, Cullen Jr., Brant- fr

ley, Stephen, Judy, and Susan. All of
the children attended Zephyrhills •

high school and sent their '
children there as well.
