Expression through art
By Katie Chapman
There is no single definition of art. It is subjective; it means something different
to each person. It plays a very large part in many peoples' lives, for some people it is
the whole reason they get up in the morning. Art is anything one can imagine and cre-
ate into form. Some people use it to express themselves, and others use it to show how (
creative they are.
At our school. we are very lucky to have two art classes. Mrs. Gillars' two di-
mensional art class and Ms. Burgess' three dimensional art class. In Art 2-D. students
draw using a variety of media such as color pencils. chalk pastels, and paints. In 3-D
art, students might creating a sculpture out of twenty plastic spoons or participate in the
yearly Art of Recycling project where recycled items are used to create a form of any
kind.
There are also many opportunities to go on field trips every year when you are
in an art class. Last year, students went to Downtown Disney to the Art of the Masters
festival and enjoyed walking around looking at hundreds of artists' pieces. This year.
students went to the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg.
In both classes, there is a variety of materials to use. some of which include
paint. clay, plaster and many more to create anything one can imagine.
