GENERAL NOTES:
1. THESE DRAWINGS ARE SCHEMATIC IN NATURE AND ARE NOT INTENDED TO SHOW ALL
POSSIBLE CONDITIONS. IT IS INTENDED THAT A COMPLETE HVAC SYSTEM BE PROVIDED WITH
ALL NECESSARY EQUIPMENT, APPURTENANCES AND CONTROLS COMPLETELY COORDINATED
WITH ALL DISCIPLINES. ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATIONS SHALL CONFORM
WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF ALL STATE BUILDING CODES, THE NFPA 90A, 101 AND ALL
LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND THESE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. THESE ITEMS SHALL BE FURNISHED
WITHOUT INCURRING ANY ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER. THE WORD "PROVIDE" SHALL
MEAN FURNISH AND INSTALL. CAREFULLY REVIEW ALL CONTRACT DOCUMENTS AND THE
DESIGN OF OTHER TRADES BEFORE PREPARING SHOP DRAWINGS.
2. PRIOR TO PURCHASING ANY MATERIALS OR STARTING ANY WORK, CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD
VERIFY ALL EXISTING CONDITIONS, DUCTWORK SIZES AND LOCATIONS, EQUIPMENT, ETC. SHOWN
ON THE DRAWINGS OR AFFECTING THIS WORK AND SHALL REPORT ANY DEVIATIONS TO THE
ARCHITECT.
3. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND REQUIREMENTS OF ALL
MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT WITH ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS PRIOR TO ORDERING EQUIPMENT OR
SUBMITTING SHOP DRAWINGS, AND SHALL FURNISH EQUIPMENT WIRED FOR THE VOLTAGES
SHOWN THEREIN.
4. ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRING ELECTRICAL POWER SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH
DISCONNECT SWITCHES AT EACH PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. COORDINATE SWITCH TYPE (FUSED OR
NON -FUSED) WITH EQUIPMENT CHARACTERISTICS, MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS AND
ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS.
5. ALL REQUIRED CONTROL WIRING NOT SHOWN ON THE ELECTRICAL DRAWINGS SHALL BE
INCLUDED AS PART OF THE MECHANICAL WORK.
6. UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE, STARTERS, SMOKE DETECTORS, TRANSFORMERS, CONTROLS AND
CONTROL WIRING REQUIRED FOR ALL MECHANICAL SYSTEMS SHALL BE FURNISHED AND
INSTALLED BY THE MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR.
7. ALL FANS SUPPLYING MORE THAN 2000 CFM OF AIR TO ANY SPACE AND ALL RECIRCULATING
FAN SYSTEMS SERVING AREAS OF EGRESS SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH A SMOKE DETECTOR IN
THE SUPPLY DUCTWORK. THE SMOKE DETECTOR SHALL BE WIRED TO STOP THE FAN UPON
DETECTION OF SMOKE, AND SIGNAL THE BUILDING FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL (IF BUILDING
IS SO EQUIPPED). IF THE BUILDING IS NOT PROVIDED WITH A FIRE ALARM SYSTEM, THE
SMOKE DETECTOR SHALL CAUSE A VISIBLE AND AUDIBLE ALARM SIGNAL IN A NORMALLY
OCCUPIED AREA. SMOKE DETECTOR TROUBLE CONDITIONS SHALL BE INDICATED VISUALLY OR
AUDIBLY IN A NORMALLY OCCUPIED AREA AND SHALL BE IDENTIFIED AS AIR DUCT DETECTOR
TROUBLE. IF A BUILDING FIRE ALARM SYSTEM IS INSTALLED, THE SMOKE DETECTOR SHALL BE
FURNISHED BY THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM CONTRACTOR, MOUNTED IN THE DUCT BY THE
MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR, AND WIRED BY THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. IF A BUILDING FIRE
ALARM SYSTEM IS NOT INSTALLED, THE SMOKE DETECTOR AND AUDIBLE/VISIBLE ALARM
SHALL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR.
8. INSTALL FIRE DAMPERS IN ALL RATED THROUGH WALLS, FLOOR AND CEILING PENETRATIONS.
REFER TO THE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FOR LOCATIONS OR RATED AREAS. PROVIDE
ACCESS DOORS IN DUCTWORK AT EACH FIRE DAMPER LOCATION. INSTALL SMOKE DAMPERS IN
ALL DUCT PENETRATIONS THROUGH SMOKE RATED WALLS. WHERE DUCTS PENETRATE WALLS
THAT CARRY BOTH FIRE AND SMOKE RATINGS, THE DAMPERS INSTALLED SHALL BE
COMBINATION FIRE AND SMOKE DAMPERS. ALL DAMPERS SHALL BE U.L. LABELED.
9. ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER'S
RECOMMENDATIONS.
10. ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS SHALL BE GUARANTEED FOR A PERIOD OF ONE
YEAR AFTER CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY.
11. EXHAUST DUCTWORK SHALL BE SHEET METAL AND SHALL NOT BE INSULATED UNLESS NOTED
OTHERWISE.
12. ALL DUCTWORK SHALL BE SUPPORTED BY THE BUILDING STRUCTURE AND SHALL NOT REST
ON CEILING TILES OR CEILING STRUCTURE. DUCT SUPPORTS AND ATTACHMENT TO STRUCTURE
SHALL BE AS PER SMACNA STANDARDS.
13. FLEXIBLE DUCTWORK SHALL BE SIZED TO MATCH DEVICE NECK, PROVIDE ROUND GALVANIZED
STEEL DUCT RUNOUTS TO MAINTAIN MAXIMUM FLEXIBLE DUCT OF 5'-0" LONG. FLEXIBLE
DUCTWORK SHALL BE INSTALLED AS STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE, AND SHALL BE ROUTED AND
SUPPORTED WITHOUT FORMING CRIMPS OR OTHER AIR FLOW RESTRICTIONS. PROVIDE SQUARE
TO ROUND ADAPTERS OR BOOTS TO CONNECT TO AIR DEVICE NECK WHEN REQUIRED.
14. ROUND AND FLEXIBLE DUCTWORK SHALL BE CONNECTED TO MAIN DUCTS WITH SPIN -IN
FITTINGS WITH AIR EXTRACTORS AND BALANCING DAMPERS.
15. PORTIONS OF DUCTWORK VISIBLE THROUGH AIR DISTRIBUTION DEVICES IN FINISHED AREAS
SHALL BE PAINTED FLAT BLACK.
16. DUCTWORK DIMENSIONS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS ARE INSIDE CLEAR DIMENSIONS.
CONTRACTOR SHALL ADJUST DUCT DIMENSIONS WHERE DUCT LINER IS USED M MAINTAIN
INSIDE CLEAR DIMENSIONS SHOWN ON DRAWINGS.
17. THE CONDENSATE SHALL DRAIN TO A SANITARY SEWER DRAIN TROUGH AN INDIRECT WASTE,
STORM SEWER DRAIN OR AN APPROVED FRENCH DRAIN. THE APPROVED
CORROSION -RESISTANT DISCHARGE PIPING SHALL NOT BE SMALLER THAN THE DRAIN PAN
CONNECTION ON THE APPROVED EQUIPMENT AND SHALL MAINTAIN A MINIMUM HORIZONTAL
SLOPE IN THE DIRECTION OF DISCHARGE OF NOT LESS THAN 1/8 UNIT VERTICAL IN 12 UNITS
HORIZONTAL (17.).
18. AFTER CONSTRUCTION, THE ENTIRE HVAC SYSTEM SHALL BE TESTED, ADJUSTED, AND
BALANCED TO DELIVER THE AIR QUANTITIES SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS. SUBMIT CERTIFIED
TEST AND BALANCE REPORT TO ARCHITECT FOR APPROVAL.
19. MANUAL OVER -RIDE CONTROL (EMERGENCY SHUT -DOWN) SWITCHES FOR ALL HVAC UNITS
SHALL BE LOCATED IN LOCKING COVER ADJACENT TO FIRE ALARM ANNUNCIATOR PANEL OR
OTHER LOCATION APPROVED BY LOCAL AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION.
20. ALL WORK SHALL BE COORDINATED AND PERFORMED WITH PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE
OWNER TO SUIT HIS OPERATING CONDITIONS.
21. ANY WALL, FLOOR, OR CEILING SURFACE THAT IS DISTURBED DURING THE COURSE OF THE
HVAC WORK SHALL BE REPAIRED TO MATCH NEW AND/OR EXISTING.
22. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE THE INSTALLATION OF ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT,
DUCTWORK, ETC. TO FIT WITHIN THE SPACE ALLOWED BY THE ARCHITECTURAL AND
STRUCTURAL CONDITIONS. CUTTING OR OTHERWISE ALTERING ANY STRUCTURAL MEMBERS
SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE ARCHITECT.
23. MOUNT THERMOSTATS 48" AFF UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. PROVIDE CLEAR LOCKING COVER
ASSEMBLIES FOR ALL THERMOSTATS.
24. LOCATIONS OF GRILLES, REGISTERS, & DIFFUSERS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS ARE
APPROXIMATE. COORDINATE EXACT LOCATIONS WITH LIGHTS, CEILING GRID, SPRINKLER HEADS
ETC.
25. SLOPE ALL HORIZONTAL GAS FLUE PIPING MINIMUM 1/4" PER FOOT.
26. GAS FLUE PIPING SHALL BE TYPE "B" DOUBLE WALL FLUE, U.L. LISTED, EXCEPT FOR INDUCED
OR FORCED DRAFT EQUIPMENT, WHICH SHALL BE TYPE PS, METALBESTOS OR EQUAL.
27. TERMINATE ALL GAS FLUE PIPING THRU ROOF WITH TALL CONE FLASHING, STORM COLLAR,
AND WEATHER CAP.
28. PROVIDE ACCESS PANELS IN NON -ACCESSIBLE CEILINGS AND IN WALL STRUCTURE TO ALLOW
ADEQUATE ROOM FOR MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT AND BALANCING OF SYSTEM.
