THIS SECTION COVERS THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM INCLUDING INITIATING DEVICES, NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES, CONTROLS, AND SUPERVISORY DEVICES. B. WORK COVERED BY THIS SECTION INCLUDES THE FURNISHING OF LABOR, EQUIPMENT, AND MATERIALS FOR INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM AS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS. C. THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL CONSIST OF ALL NECESSARY HARDWARE EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS: 1. FIRE ALARM AND DETECTION OPERATIONS. 2. CONTROL AND MONITORING OF FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS, AND OTHER EQUIPMENT AS INDICATED IN THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFICATIONS. 1.2 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURER A. FIRE-LITES, OR EQUAL BY SIMPLEXGRINNEL, NOTIFIER, EDWARDS SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY, AND SILENT KNIGHT. 1.3 RELATED DOCUMENT A. THE SYSTEM AND ALL ASSOCIATED OPERATIONS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING: 1. THE FLORIDA BUILDING CODE 2020. 2. FLORIDA FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 6TH EDITION. 3. NFPA 72 (2013), NATIONAL FIRE ALARM CODE. 4. NFPA 70, NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE (2017) 5. NFPA 101, LIFE SAFETY CODE (2015) 6. LOCAL JURISDICTIONAL ADOPTED CODES AND STANDARDS. 7. ADA ACCESSIBILITY GUIDELINES. 1.4 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION A. THE SYSTEM AND ALL ASSOCIATED OPERATIONS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING: 1. PROVIDE A COMPLETE, NON -CODED, ADDRESSABLE, MICROPROCESSOR -BASED FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WITH INITIATING DEVICES, NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES, AND MONITORING AND CONTROL DEVICES. A SYSTEM GENERAL ALARM SHALL INCLUDE: a. INDICATION OF ALARM CONDITION AT THE FACP AND ANNUNCIATOR(S). b. IDENTIFICATION OF THE DEVICE OR ZONE THAT IS THE SOURCE OF THE ALARM AT THE FACP. c. UNLOCKING OF DESIGNATED DOORS. d. NOTIFYING THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. e. INITIATION OF ELEVATOR RECALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASME/ANSI A17.3, WHEN SPECIFIED DETECTORS OR SENSORS ARE ACTIVATED. 2. SUPERVISORY OPERATIONS: UPON ACTIVATION OF A SUPERVISORY DEVICE SUCH AS FIRE PUMP POWER FAILURE, PUMP RUNNING, PHASE REVERSAL, LOW AIR PRESSURE SWITCH, AND TAMPER SWITCHES, THE SYSTEM SHALL OPERATE AS FOLLOWS: a. ACTIVATE THE SYSTEM SUPERVISORY SERVICE AUDIBLE SIGNAL AND ILLUMINATE THE LED AT THE CONTROL UNIT. b. RECORD THE EVENT IN THE FACP HISTORICAL LOG. c. TRANSMISSION OF SUPERVISORY SIGNAL TO REMOTE CENTRAL STATION. d. RESTORING THE CONDITION SHALL CAUSE THE SUPERVISORY LED TO CLEAR AND RESTORE THE SYSTEM TO NORMAL. 3. IF THE "ALARM SILENCE" BUTTON IS PRESSED, ALL AUDIBLE AND VISIBLE ALARM SIGNALS SHALL CEASE OPERATION. a. THE "SYSTEM RESET" BUTTON SHALL BE USED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO ITS NORMAL STATE. DISPLAY MESSAGES SHALL PROVIDE OPERATOR ASSURANCE OF THE SEQUENTIAL STEPS ("IN PROGRESS", "RESET COMPLETED") AS THEY OCCUR. THE SYSTEM SHALL VERIFY ALL CIRCUITS OR DEVICES ARE RESTORED PRIOR TO RESETTING THE SYSTEM TO AVOID THE POTENTIAL FOR RE -ALARMING THE SYSTEM. THE DISPLAY MESSAGE SHALL INDICATE "ALARM PRESENT, SYSTEM RESET ABORTED." b. SHOULD AN ALARM CONDITION CONTINUE, THE SYSTEM WILL REMAIN IN AN ALARMED STATE. 4. THE "SYSTEM RESET" BUTTON SHALL BE USED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO ITS NORMAL STATE. DISPLAY MESSAGES SHALL PROVIDE OPERATOR ASSURANCE OF THE SEQUENTIAL STEPS ("IN PROGRESS", "RESET COMPLETED") AS THEY OCCUR. THE SYSTEM SHALL VERIFY ALL CIRCUITS OR DEVICES ARE RESTORED PRIOR TO RESETTING THE SYSTEM TO AVOID THE POTENTIAL FOR RE -ALARMING THE SYSTEM. THE DISPLAY MESSAGE SHALL INDICATE "ALARM PRESENT, SYSTEM RESET ABORTED. 5. A MANUAL EVACUATION (DRILL) SWITCH SHALL BE PROVIDED TO OPERATE THE NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES WITHOUT CAUSING OTHER CONTROL CIRCUITS TO BE ACTIVATED. a. OPENING OF AN INITIATING OR NOTIFICATION APPLIANCE CIRCUIT WIRING SHALL CAUSE THE AUDIBLE SIGNALS TO VOICE ANNOUNCE THE TROUBLE CONDITION. b. POWER REQUIREMENTS. - THE CONTROL UNIT SHALL RECEIVE AC POWER VIA A DEDICATED CIRCUIT BREAKER. - THE SYSTEM SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH SUFFICIENT BATTERY CAPACITY TO OPERATE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM UPON LOSS OF NORMAL AC POWER IN A NORMAL SUPERVISORY MODE FOR A PERIOD OF 24 HOURS WITH15 MINUTES OF ALARM OPERATION AT THE END OF THIS PERIOD. THE SYSTEM SHALL AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFER TO BATTERY STANDBY UPON POWER FAILURE. ALL BATTERY CHARGING AND RECHARGING OPERATIONS SHALL BE AUTOMATIC. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. TINSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS: A FACTORY AUTHORIZED INSTALLER SHALL PERFORM THE WORK OF THIS SECTION. B. EACH AND ALL ITEMS OF THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE LISTED AS A PRODUCT OF A SINGLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM MANUFACTURER UNDER THE APPROPRIATE CATEGORY BY UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES, INC. (UL), AND SHALL BEAR THE "UL" LABEL. 1.6 MAINTENANCE SERVICE A. MAINTENANCE SERVICE CONTRACT: PROVIDE MAINTENANCE OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT FOR A PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS, USING FACTORY -AUTHORIZED SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES. B. BASIC SERVICES: SYSTEMATIC, ROUTINE MAINTENANCE VISITS ON A QUARTERLY BASIS AT TIMES SCHEDULED WITH THE OWNER. IN ADDITION, RESPOND TO SERVICE CALLS WITHIN 24 HOURS OF NOTIFICATION OF SYSTEM TROUBLE. ADJUST AND REPLACE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND COMPONENTS WITH ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER'S REPLACEMENT PARTS, COMPONENTS, AND SUPPLIES. C. ADDITIONAL SERVICES: PERFORM SERVICES WITHIN THE ABOVE 12-MONTH PERIOD NOT CLASSIFIED AS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE OR AS WARRANTY WORK WHEN AUTHORIZED IN WRITING. COMPENSATION FOR ADDITIONAL SERVICES MUST BE AGREED UPON IN WRITING PRIOR TO PERFORMING SERVICES. FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS - TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS CONT. INDICATOR LIGHT AND SOUNDER WITH NAMEPLATE, 5. ACCEPTANCE TEST: DO NOT PERFORM ACCEPTANCE TESTING UNTIL THE CERTIFICATE OF (4) ADDRESSABLE HEAT DETECTOR COMPLETION IS SUBMITTED TO THE OWNER. THE RECOMMENDED TESTS LISTED IN NFPA 72 SHALL BE CONSIDERED MANDATORY AND SHALL BE USED TO VERIFY THAT PREVIOUS O ADDRESSABLE SMOKE DETECTOR DEFICIENCIES HAVE BEEN CORRECTED. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT THE NFPA 72, INSPECTION AND TESTING FORM. THE TEST SHALL INCLUDE ALL REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA 72 AND THE ® STROBE FOLLOWING: A. TEST OF EACH FUNCTION OF THE CONTROL PANEL. HORN/STROBE B. TEST OF EACH CIRCUIT IN BOTH TROUBLE AND NORMAL MODES. ® MONITOR MODULE C. TEXTS OF EACH ALARM INITIATING DEVICES IN BOTH NORMAL AND TROUBLE CONDITIONS. ® RELAY D. TESTS OF EACH CONTROL CIRCUIT AND DEVICE. ® FLOW SWITCH E. TESTS OF EACH ALARM NOTIFICATION APPLIANCE. ® TAMPER SWITCH F. TESTS OF THE BATTERY CHARGER AND BATTERIES. G. COMPLETE OPERATIONAL TESTS UNDER EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY. H. VISUAL INSPECTION OF WIRING CONNECTIONS. I. OPENING THE CIRCUIT AT EACH ALARM INITIATING DEVICE AND NOTIFICATION APPLIANCE TO TEST THE WIRING SUPERVISORY FEATURE. J. GROUND FAULT. K. SHORT CIRCUIT FAULTS. L. STRAY VOLTAGE. GENERAL NOTES: 1. PROVIDE AN ADDRESABLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM FOR THIS PROJECT. CONTRACT DRAWINGS SHOW LAYOUTS BASED ON TYPICAL FIRE ALARM DEVICES/EQUIPMENT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CHECK THE LAYOUT BASED ON ACTUAL DEVICES/EQUIPMENT TO BE PROVIDED AND MAKE NECESSARY REVISIONS. PROVIDE ALL FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT, DEVICES, WIRING, CONDUIT, AND ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS FOR COMPLETE INSTALLATIONS. 2. ALL CONDUIT SHALL BE IN MINIMUM 1 /2" UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE AND CONDUCTORS SHALL BE COPPER. CONDUCTORS SHALL BE SIZED PER MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. ALL CONDUCTORS SHALL BE IN CONDUIT. 3. CONDUIT FOR THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT OF ALL OTHER WIRING. 4. AUDIBLE DEVICES SHALL BE WIRED INDEPENDENTLY FROM VISUAL DEVICES. SILENCING OF AUDIBLE DEVICES SHALL NOT DE -ACTIVATE FLASHING STROBES UNTIL ALARM CONDITION IS CLEARED. 5. EQUIPMENT AND DEVICES FOR THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL BE LISTED AS A PRODUCT OF A SINGLE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM MANUFACTURER UNDER THE APPROPRIATE CATEGORY BY UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES, INC. (UL), AND SHALL BEAR THE "UL" LABEL. 6. SPLICING OF CONDUCTORS ARE NOT ALLOWED INSIDE THE FACP. 7. VISUAL OR AUDIBLE/VISUAL DEVICES SHALL BE MOUNTED AT 80" TO 96" AFF TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DEVICE PER NFPA 72. 8. AUDIBLE DEVICES SHALL BE MOUNTED AT A MINIMUM OF 90" AFF TO TOP OF DEVICE AND NO MORE THAN 6" FROM TOP OF DEVICE TO CEILING PER NFPA 72. 9. MANUAL PULL STATION SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 3'-6" AND NOT MORE THAN 4'-6" FROM OPERABLE PART OF DEVICE TO FINISHED FLOOR PER NFPA 72. 10. AUDIBLE ALARM SHALL PRODUCE A SOUND THAT EXCEEDS THE PREVAILING EQUIVALENT SOUND LEVEL IN THE ROOM OR SPACE BY AT LEAST 15 dBA OR EXCEEDS ANY MAXIMUM SOUND LEVEL WITH A DURATION OF 60 SECONDS BY 5 dBA, WHICHEVER IS LOUDER. SOUND LEVELS FOR ALARM SIGNALS SHALL NOT EXCEED 115 dBA. CONTRACTOR SHALL ADJUST POWER TAPS AND/OR PROVIDE ADDITIONAL MASS NOTIFICATION SPEAKERS AS NECESSARY TO MEET THIS REQUIREMENT. 13. TRANSMIT THE ALARM SIGNAL TO THE CENTRAL MONITORING STATION. 1.3. ACTIVATION OF ANY SUPERVISORY CIRCUIT SHALL CAUSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS AND INDICATIONS: 1.3.1.
