PROTECTION AGAINST TERMITES
R320.1
TERMITE PROTECTION SHALL BE PROVIDED BY REGISTERED TERMITICIDES,
INCLUDING SOIL APPLIED PESTICIDES, BAITING SYSTEMS, AND PESTICIDES
APPLIED TO WOOD, OR OTHER APPROVED METHODS OF TERMITE
PROTECTION LABELED FOR USE AS A PREVENTATIVE TREATMENT TO NEW
CONSTRUCTION (SEE SECTION 202, REGISTERED TERMITICIDE). UPON
COMPLETION OF THE APPLICATION OF THE TERMITE PROTECTIVE
TREATMENT, A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE SHALL BE ISSUED TO THE
BUILDING DEPARTMENT BY THE LICENSED PEST CONTROL COMPANY THAT
CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT: "THE BUILDING HAS RECEIVED A
COMPLETE TREATMENT FOR THE PREVENTION OF SUBTERRANEAN
TERMITES. TREATMENT IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH RULES AND LAWS
ESTABLISHED BY THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND
CONSUMER SERVICES."
CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT, INCLUDING SPACES BOXED OR FORMED.

IF SOIL TREATMENT USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
THE INITIAL CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT INSIDE THE FOUNDATION
PERIMETER SHALL BE DONE AFTER ALL EXCAVATION, BACKFILLING AND
COMPACTION IS COMPLETE.

IF SOIL TREATMENT IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
SOIL AREA DISTURBED AFTER INITIAL CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT SHALL
BE RETREATED WITH A CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT, INCLUDING SPACES
BOXED OR FORMED.

IF SOIL TREATMENT IS USED F6R SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
SPACE IN CONCRETE FLOORS BOXED OUT OR FORMED FOR THE
SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF PLUMBING TRAPS, DRAINS OR ANY OTHER
PURPOSE SHALL BE CREATED BY USING PLASTIC OR METAL
PERMANENTLY PLACED FORMS OF SUFFICIENT DEPTH TO ELIMINATE ANY
PLANNED SOIL DISTURBANCE AFTER INITIAL CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT.

IF SOIL TREATMENT IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
CHEMICALLY TREATED SOIL SHALL BE PROTECTED WITH A MINIMUM 6 MIL
VAPOR RETARDER TO PROTECT AGAINST RAINFALL DILUTION. IF RAINFALL
OCCURS BEFORE VAPOR RETARDER PLACEMENT, RETREATMENT IS
REQUIRED. ANY WORK, INCLUDING PLACEMENT OF REINFORCING STEEL,
CHEMICAL TREATMENT UNTIL THE CONCRETE FLOOR IS
OURED, SHALL BE DONE IN SUCH MANNER AS TO AVOID PENETRATING
OR DISTURBING TREATED SOIL.

IF SOIL TREATMENT IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
CONCRETE OVERPOUR OR MORTAR ACCUMULATED ALONG THE EXTERIOR
FOUNDATION PERIMETER SHALL BE REMOVED PRIOR TO EXTERIOR
CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENT, TO ENHANCE VERTICAL PENETRATION OF
THE CHEMICALS.

IF SOIL TREATMENT IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
CHEMICAL SOIL TREATMENTS SHALL ALSO BE APPLIED UNDER ALL
EXTERIOR CONCRETE OR GRADE WITHIN 1 FOOT (305 MM) OF THE
PRIMARY STRUCTURE SIDEWALLS. ALSO, A VERTICAL CHEMICAL BARRIER
SHALL BE APPLIED PROMPTLY AFTER CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED,
INCLUDING INITIAL LANDSCAPING AND IRRIGATION/SPRINKLER
INSTALLATION. ANY SOIL DISTURBED AFTER THE CHEMICAL VERTICAL
BARRIER IS APPLIED SHALL BE PROMPTLY RETREATED.

IF A REGISTERED TERMITICIDE FORMULATED AND REGISTERED AS A BAIT
SYSTEM IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION, SECTIONS
ROUGH R320.1.6 DO NOT APPLY; HOWEVER, A SIGNED
ONTRACT ASSURING THE INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING
OF THE BAITING SYSTEM FOR A MINIMUM OF FIVE YEARS FROM THE
ISSUE OF THE CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE
BUILDING OFFICIAL PRIOR TO THE POURING OF THE SLAB, AND THE
SYSTEM MUST BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO FINAL BUILDING APPROVAL. IF
THE BAITING SYSTEM DIRECTIONS FOR USE REQUIRE A MONITORING
PHASE PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE PESTICIDE ACTIVE INGREDIENT,
THE INSTALLATION OF THE MONITORING PHASE COMPONENTS SHALL BE
DEEMED TO CONSTITUTE INSTALLATION OF THE SYSTEM.

TREATMENT IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE PREVENTION,
SECTIONS R320.1.1 THROUGH R320.1.6 DO NOT APPLY. APPLICATION OF
THE WOOD TREATMENT TERMITICIDE SHALL BE AS REQUIRED BY LABEL
DIRECTIONS FOR USE, AND MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO FINAL
BUILDING APPROVAL.
R320.2 PENETRATION.
PROTECTIVE SLEEVES AROUND METALLIC PIPING PENETRATING CONCRETE
SLAB -ON -GRADE FLOORS SHALL NOT BE OF CELLULOSE- CONTAINING
MATERIALS AND, IF SOIL TREATMENT IS USED FOR SUBTERRANEAN
TERMITE PROTECTION, SHALL RECEIVE APPLICATION OF A TERMITICIDE IN
ANNULAR SPACE BETWEEN SLEEVE AND PIPE.
R320.3 CLEANING.
CELLS AND CAVITIES IN MASONRY UNITS AND AIR GAPS BETWEEN BRICK,
STONE OR MASONRY VENEERS AND THE STRUCTURE SHALL BE CLEANED
OF ALL INIONPRESERVATIVE TREATED OR NONNATURALLY DURABLE WOOD,
OR OTHER CELLULOSE -CONTAINING MATERIAL PRIOR TO CONCRETE
PLACEMENT.
EXCEPTION: INORGANIC MATERIAL MANUFACTURED FOR CLOSING CELLS IN
FOUNDATION CONCRETE MASONRY UNIT CONSTRUCTION OR CLEAN EARTH
FILL PLACED IN CONCRETE MASONRY UNIT VOIDS BELOW SLAB LEVEL
BEFORE TERMITE TREATMENT IS PERFORMED.
R320.4 CONCRETE BEARING LEDGE.
BRICK, STONE OR OTHER VENEER SHALL BE SUPPORTED BY A
CONCRETE BEARING LEDGE AT LEAST EQUAL TO THE TOTAL THICKNESS
OF THE BRICK, STONE OR OTHER VENEER, WHICH IS POURED INTEGRALLY
WITH THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION. NO SUPPLEMENTAL CONCRETE
FOUNDATION POURS WHICH WILL CREATE A HIDDEN COLD JOINT SHALL
BE USED WITHOUT SUPPLEMENTAL TREATMENT IN THE FOUNDATION
UNLESS THERE IS AN APPROVED PHYSICAL BARRIER. AN APPROVED
PHYSICAL BARRIER SHALL ALSO BE INSTALLED FROM BELOW THE WALL
SILL PLATE OR FIRST BLOCK COURSE HORIZONTALLY TO EMBED IN A
MORTAR JOINT, IF MASONRY VENEER EXTENDS BELOW GRADE, A TERMITE
PROTECTIVE TREATMENT MUST BE APPLIED TO THE CAVITY CREATED
BETWEEN THE VENEER AND THE FOUNDATION, IN LIEU OF A PHYSICAL
BARRIER.
EXCEPTION: VENEER SUPPORTED BY A SHELF ANGLE OR LINTEL
SECURED TO THE FOUNDATION SIDEWALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACI
530/ASCE 5/TMS 402, PROVIDED AT LEAST A 6-INCH (152 MM) CLEAR
INSPECTION SPACE OF THE FOUNDATION SIDEWALL EXTERIOR EXIST
BETWEEN THE VENEER AND THE TOP OF ANY SOIL, SOD, MULCH OR
OTHER ORGANIC LANDSCAPING COMPONENT, DECK, APRON, PORCH, WALK
OR ANY OTHER WORK IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO OR ADJOINING THE
STRUCTURE.
R320.5 PRESSURE PRESERVATIVELY TREATED AND NATURALLY
RESISTANT WOOD.
HEARTWOOD OF REDWOOD AND EASTERN RED CEDAR SHALL BE
CONSIDERED TERMITE RESISTANT. PRESSURE PRESERVATIVELY TREATED
WOOD AND NATURALLY TERM[ TE- RESISTANT WOOD SHALL NOT BE USED
AS A PHYSICAL BARRIER UNLESS A BARRIER CAN BE INSPECTED FOR
ANY TERMITE SHELTER TUBES AROUND THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE EDGES
AND JOINTS OF A BARRIER.
R320.5.1 FIELD TREATMENT.
FIELD CUT ENDS, NOTCHES AND DRILLED HOLES OF PRESSURE
PRESERVATIVELY TREATED WOOD SHALL BE RETREATED IN THE FIELD IN
ACCORDANCE WITH AWPA M4.
R320.6 FOAM PLASTIC PROTECTION.
EXTRUDED AND EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE, POLYISOCYANU RATE AND
OTHER FOAM PLASTICS SHALL NOT BE INSTALLED ON THE EXTERIOR
FACE OR UNDER INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR FOUNDATION WALLS OR SLAB
FOUNDATIONS LOCATED BELOW GRADE. THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN FOAM
PLASTICS INSTALLED ABOVE GRADE AND EXPOSED EARTH SHALL BE AT
LEAST 6 INCHES (152 MM).
EXCEPTIONS:
1. BUILDINGS WHERE THE STRU U AL F WALLS, FLOORS,
CEILINGS AND ROOFS ARE ENTIRELY OF NONCOMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS OR
PRESSURE PRESERVATIVELY TREATED WOOD.
2. WHEN IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION R320.1, AN
APPROVED METHOD OF PROTECTING THE FOAM PLASTIC AND STRUCTURE
FROM SUBTERRANEAN TERMITE DAMAGE IS PROVIDED.
3. ON THE INTERIOR SIDE OF BASEMENT WALLS.
GENERAL NOTES
Bathroom #2 - Hall
- Demo existing door and frame.
- Re-frome opening for a 36" wide door.
- Install new 3'0" x 6'8" pre -hung, hollow core door unit with lever
lock.
- Mortise trim on inside of door to fit against wall and vanity.
- Point door and frame completely.
- Install horizontal grab bar in front of toilet at height suitable to
owner.
- Remove and replace regular toilet with new handicap toilet and
seat.
Kitchen
Cut the west countertop, south end, back approximately 20"
removing the south door of that base cabinet. Using the west
side and the south end, make two side legs to hold top, Lower
countertop height down to 31" high, 29" clear height. Install
splash between 36" countertop height and new 31" height.
Reinstall end panel 20" north. Patch as necessary wood floor in
20" x 25" area where base cabinet was removed for a roll -under
area.
Utility Room
- Demo southwest corner of existing utility room.
- Demo from edge of door in room, northwest at an angle
approximately 7 LF from southwest existing corner. By removing
90 degree corner and installing an angle wall approximately 7 LF
long, you will create a walkway approximately 42" wide so that a
wheelchair con travel from back patio to carport and be under
roof and out of weather.
- Relocate one wall light, one light switch, and one wall outlet.
- Re -frame new angle wall and reinstall existing vinyl lap siding.
- Provide all necessary vinyl lop components to tie new design into
existing design.
Interior will remain as is with exposed studs.
Remove existing block skirting on west side of sidewalk for
approximately 12 LF and install vinyl in place of block to gain 4"
of width.
Master Bathroom
- Demo toilet.
- Demo bathroom door and frame.
- Demo two toilet room walls (west and south),
- Demo vanity top, sinks, faucets, and base cabinets.
- Demo mirror above vanity.
- Save sinks, faucets, and mirror to reinstall.
- Demo shower walls, shower valve, shower floor and floor drain.
- Demo wall cabinet - reinstall in bedroom closet.
- Demo floor covering in bathroom.
- Demo north wall, east end, for a new 36" door.
- Frame in new door opening. Frame to close up old door opening.
- Rough in plumbing: Install toilet water line, east wall, south end,
(corner of room) and its 4" drain line in floor.
- Rough in new shower valve and center drain in 5x5 shower floor
area in old shower area southwest corner of bathroom. Vanity area
remains as is with rough plumbing.
- Install pressure treated 2x4's north and south and spaced 12"
apart across all of bathroom floor. 2x4's will lay flat on 3-1/2"
side and will not be installed in shower area.
- In front of new door, 36" wide and 36" into bathroom, cut
sleepers (2x4's) at on angle to create a 1 to 12 slope for a
ramp.
install ?" pressure treated plywood on top of sleepers.
I nsz a 11 16" durarock on top of plywood. This will be done
throughout oil of bathroom floor except in shower area which will
remain at existing floor height.
Rough in electric: Remove fan/light from toilet room and its two
switches. Balonc,- of electric remains the some.
Install shower pan.
Install durarock on three walls of shower area up 6 LF above floor.
- Install mud set on shower floor; slope all four sides to center
drain.
- Install moisture rcsistant drywall on walls of bathroom as
necessary due to demo, plumbing and electric relocation.
- Install ceramic tile on three walls of shower up 6 LF above floor.
- Install ceramic tile on shower floor.
- Install marble sills on two open faces of shower floor to stop
flowing water.
- Install new 3'0" x 6'8" hollow core, pre -hung door unit with lever
lock in bathroom.
- Install ceramic tile floor on balance of floor outside of shower.
- Install marble sill at door.
- Point bathroom walls, doors, and trim completely.
- Install 36" vanity cabinet.
- Install 72" long x 22" deep countertop. South 36" of vanity will
be a roll -under area. Countertop will hove three wall splashes.
- Install new handicap toilet and seat.
- Reinstall two existing sinks and faucets in vanity area.
- Reinstall existing mirror above vanity.
- Trim out sho-.,,er valve. Install hand-held shower wand and slide
bar.
- Install three wall mounted grab bars in shower.
- Install one wall mounted grab bar on wall beside toilet and one
fold -down bar on opposite side of toilet.
- Install ceiling track and shower curtain. Track to have one radius
turn
- Install 3' handrail on west side of romp to protect edge.
Master Bedroom
- Move furniture.
- Demo carpet, pod, and tack strip.
- Install new wood floors in 13' x 16' bedroom.
- Reinstall furniture.

- Move furniture.
- Demo carpet, pod, and tack strips.
- Install new wood floors in 16' x 26' living room.

- Demo aluminum pan roof, fan beam, and fan.
- Demo vinyl lop siding on west wall, and north on the
exterior of the sun room.
- Demo lap siding from all inside walls; save to reinstall.
- Demo five windows and one door; save to reinstall.
- Demo A/C unit; save to reinstall.
- Install new 3" elite panel roof in sun room approximately 13
x 13. North and west walls to hove a 12" overhang with a
gutter and downspout on north wall. Elite panel to hove a
fan beam.
- Install nine plasters on existing floor of sun room

- Install double 2x8 pressure treated beam, north and south,
on top of three rows of plasters. Center row of plasters will
be 7-1/2" lower in height.
- Install pressure treated 2x8 floor joist on 16" center

top of center beam.
- Install ?" pressure treated plywood on top of 2x8 joist.
- Install 36" tongue and groove plywood on top of ?" plywood.
- Re -frame five windows and one exterior door to new floor
height approximately 20" up from existing floor; frame for
A/C relocation.
- Reinstall the five existing windows - three on west wall and
two on north wall, west end.
- Reinstall existing door and frame in north wall, east end.
- Reinstall A/C unit north wall.
- Relocate three wall outlets to new floor height and add one
outlet for a total of

- Install R-19 insulation in west and north walls.
- Install moisture barrier on exterior of both walls.
- Reinstall vinyl lop siding on both walls. Trim around windows
and door as necessary for a water tight installation.
- Install 112" drywoll floor to ceiling on all four interior walls;
tape and finish drywall.
- Install wood baseboard.
- Point walls and trim completely.
- Reinstall carpet on top of tongue and groove plywood.
Exterior Door Sun Room
Form, pour, and finish a 4x4 landing flush with floor of sun
room. Stem wall on four sides of landing to be poured
solid and have two #5 steel re -bars in each wall. Floor of
landing to have wire mesh.
From 4x4 landing on east side, form, pour, and finish a 4
LF wide set of steps down to sidewalk.
Install handroils on landing and both sides of steps.
Roils are to match existing rails as closely as possible.
Front Door
- Demo existing rails on porch steps and sidewalk; save to
reinstall.
- Form, pour, and finish a cop on porch level with floor of
home.
- Form, pour, and finish a 4x19 LF romp from east side of
landing toward the driveway. Finish ramp flush with new cop
height and existing sidewalk.
- Remove lost 4 LF of sidewalk at base of romp so that
concrete pour will be 4" in thickness.
- Reinstall hand roil on porch and romp that was removed.
Carport
- On east side of carport, remove plant bed.
- From copping around plant bed west, back to carport, pour
area solid and level with carport area approximately 3x27.
