NITED FIRE Providing World Class Service FIRE ALARM SYSTEM WITH VESDA EARLY WARNING DETECTION SYSTEM FOR: VERIZON ZEPHYRHILLS CO 38508 A Ave. Zephyrhills, FL 33542 Headquarters 12001 31 sc Court N. • St. Petersburg, FL 33716 • (727) 471-0860 • Fax (727) 471-0861 www.united-fire.com CHEETAH XI INTELLIGENT SUPPRESSION CONTROL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Fik.e's Cheetah Xi (P/N 10-068) is a state-of-the-art true intelligent digital peer -to - peer modular suppression control system. It is ideal for all life safety and property protection applications, and is intended for both commercial and industrial use. It is designed with extensive programmability that allows the almost -instantaneous relay of information and the ability to perform process management tasks with ease including HVAC shutdowns, Emergency Voice Evacuation, damper control, door closure, elevator recall, security, and CC-117, Building Management Awareness. This cost-effective panel comes standard with two Signaling Line Circuits (SLC) that support 254 devices each. This is expandable to four loops and a total panel capacity of 1016 devices, with any mix and .match of sensors and modules. The Cheetah Xi utilizes extreme intelligence via its Eclipse based. sensors including photoelectric, photoelectric with heat, ionization, photoelectric duct, and heat detectors. It also utilizes Eclipse based modules such as the monitor, mini -monitor, relay, intelligent pull station, releasing and control modules. With Cheetah Xi, every device communicates as a peer on the signaling line circuit. These peers not only communicate up -to -the -second information to the control panel, but also communicate with each other. Each device is capable of generating accurate and highly detailed information. Conventional suppression alarm systems give a general idea of the fire's location, while the Cheetah Xi's intelligent sensors indicate precisely which device is in an alarm state. This intelligence provides incredible speed with response times as little as one -quarter second between manual pull station and. notification appliance. It's flexibility allows you to attach the intelligent devices that are .required. for your specific application. The System is programmed with either the Windows based field configuration software C-LINY"m or through a comprehensive password protected front -panel keypad programming option. This option allows you to quickly update and adapt to any future requirements or changes in the system such as changes in occupancy or remodeling. The sophisticated control panel circuitn, coupled with the software allows you to read specific information and sensitivity levels of the different eclipse devices. The sensors also compensate for any changes clue to age, contamination, or other environmental factors. SYSTEM OPERATION Fike Cheetah Xi APPROVALS • UL, - S2203 • FM- 3023436 • CSFM - 7165-0900:149 • MEA - 307-05-E • City of Denver • State of CA Seismic- USP-007-10 The Cheetah Xi Control system operates on a "Zone and State" relationship. In this design, all input and output devices must be assigned to at least one zone (253 are available), each zone defining an area to be protected. Input devices can be assigned up to four zones (one zone is typical) and output devices may be assigned up to 254 zones. These devices use the SLC signaling lime circuits to exchange status information with other devices as well as with the control panel. When an input is activated, it is configured to cause its associated zone to enter into an operational state. Any detection device will cause the associated zone to enter into an alarm state. The output devices are configured to activate to protect and evaluate the endangered zone. This system is completely modular, allowing you the flexibility to design a system that is just right for your application. A typical configuration is shown on page 2 that illustrates the communications of a Cheetah Xi system. Form No. D.1.10.01-3 704 S.W. 10th Street - P.O. The sensing chamber employs features that minimize the effect of settled dust on performance. The sensor is designed with tri-color LEDs to indicate detector status. The detector can be programmed to make the LEDs blink or be steady green, amber or red. A remote LED annunciator (P/N 02-3868) is available as an accessory. It can be configured to follow the sensor LED operation or be independently controlled. The isolator version (P/N 63-1058) provides complete short circuit isolation for NFPA 72, Style 7 wiring if used with an isolator base. The detector is compatible with Fike's CyberCat and CheetahYi intelligent control. panels. Its operating parameters are configured using the panel's programming software and are stored within non-volatile RA,\.i in the detector. 11iis on -board intelligence allows each detector to communicate its status directly to other devices connected to the panel. This peer - to -peer digital protocol results in less information that needs to be sent between the detector and the host control panel, resulting in faster, more reliable communication. The GE3 Series is not listed for outdoor use. • The sound output for the temporal 3 tone is rated lower since the time the horn is off is averaged into the sound output rating. While the horn is producing a tone in the temporal 3 mode its sound pressure is the same as the continuous mode. • For nominal and peak current across UL regulated voltage range for filtered DC power and unfiltered (FWR [Full Wave Rectified]) power, see installation manual. 12VDC models are DC only. • Gentex does not recommend using a coded or pulsing signaling circuit with any of our strobe products (see Technical Bulletin 014). )erating the horn in this mode at this voltage will result in not meeting the minimum UL reverberant sound level required for public mode fire protection service. These sttings are acceptable only for private mode fire alarm use. Use the high dBA setting for public mode application (not applicable when using the chime tone. The chime tone is always private mode). y RMS current ratings are per UL average RMS method. UL max current rating is the maximum RMS current within the listed voltage range (16-33VDC for 24VDC units) (8-17VDC for 12VDC units). For strobes the UL max current is usually at the minimum listed voltage (16VDC for 24VDC units) (8VDC for 12VDC units). For audibles the max current is usually at the maximum listed voltage. For unfiltered FWR ratings, see installation manual. Using unique detection principles, the VLP has an alarm sensitivity range of 0.005%- 20% obscuration/m (0.0015%-6.25% obscuration/ft). The VLP is classed as a "Very Early Warning Smoke Detector", which means that it detects fire at the earliest possible stage and reliably measures very low to extremely high concentrations of smoke. How It Works Air is drawn into the VLP through a network of air sampling pipes by a high efficiency aspirator. Each inlet pipe has an airflow sensor that monitors airflow changes in the pipes. Air is exhausted from the VLP and may be vented back into the protected zone. Inside the VLP, a sample of air is passed into the laser detection chamber. Ultra -fine air filtration provides very clean air to protect the optical surfaces inside the detector from contamination. The detection chamber uses a stable Class 1 laser light source and carefully positioned sensors to achieve the optimum response to a vast range of smoke types. The status of the detector, and all alarm, service and fault events, are transmitted to displays and external systems via VESDAnet. VESDAnet TM VESDA detectors and devices communicate across VESDAnet, the VESDA fault - tolerant communications protocol. The VESDAnet loop provides a robust bi-directional communication network between devices, even allowing continued operation during single point wiring failures. It also allows for system programming from a single location and forms the basis of the modular nature of the VESDA system. AutoLearn TM The VLP technology employs unique software tools to ensure optimum operation in many differing environments. AutoLearn monitors the ambient environment and sets the most appropriate alarm thresholds (Alert, Action, Firel, Fire2) during the commissioning process to allow the earliest possible warning of a potential fire situation with reduced nuisance alarms. Referencing Environments that employ air handling systems may be affected by pollution external to the controlled environment when "fresh air make up" is added. Referencing by the VLP ensures that external pollution does not interfere with the true smoke level being detected in the protected environment. The system can safely compensate for this transient state and allow continued operation free from such nuisance alarms. VE S DX Solvent cement welding is a simple and quick means of constructing high integrity leakfree joints. Care must be used to ensure that the correct solvent cement is used and that joining instructions are followed properly. BEFORE APPLYING SOLVENT CEMENT appropriate safety precautions must be taken. Be aware at all times of good safety practices. Solvent cements are flammable. Eliminate all ignition sources. Do not smoke during use and do not expose to other sources of heat or flame in working or storage areas. Avoid breathing vapors. Use only with adequate ventilation. Explosion proof mechanical ventilation or local exhaust is recommended to maintain vapor concentrations below recommended exposure limits. In confined areas, a NIOSH approved organic vapor cartridge respirator with full -face piece is recommended. Cement should be stored in the shade at temperatures between 40°F and 110°F Containers should be kept tightly closed when not in use, and covered as much as possible during use. Avoid contact with eyes. Splash proof chemical goggles are recommended. Avoid frequent contact with skin. Wearing PVA coated gloves and an impervious apron are recommended. Solvent cements have a limited shelf life and must be used prior to the expiration date. Refer to printed warnings on cement can and Material Safety Data Sheets for additional information. Joining Procedures The following procedure MUST be followed: 1. The pipe must be cut square. Cutting the pipe as squarely as possible provides a maximum bonding area. Xtralis VESDA pipe can be cut easily with a wheel -type plastic tubing cutlet ratchet style cutter or fine toothed saw. Care must be taken not to split the pipe if a ratchet type cutter is used, particularly at colder temperatures. 2. Remove all burrs and filings, and place a slight bevel on the pipe end. A file or chamfering tool is suitable for this purpose. A proper bevel will ease entry of the pipe into the fitting socket and prevent solvent cement from being wiped from the joining surfaces during assembly. 3. Wipe loose dirt and moisture from the fitting socket and pipe end by using clean dry rag. Check the "dry fit" of the components being joined to ensure compatibility. The pipe should enter the fitting socket 1/4 to 3/4 of the way. If the pipe bottoms with little interference fit use extra solvent cement when making the joint. 4. Using the appropriate size applicator (a dauber or natural bristle brush 1 /2 the size of the pipe diameter being joined) apply a heavy even coat of one-step cement to the outside pipe end while working into the surface. Apply a medium coat of cement to the fitting socket. If there was little interference during the dry fit apply a second coat of cement to the pipe end at this time. It is important to work quickly so that the cement is still liquid (to allow surfaces to slide) when pipe and fitting are assembled. 5. Immediately insert the pipe completely into the fitting socket while rotating the pipe 1/4 turn. Properly align the fitting for installation at this time. The pipe must bottom to the fitting stop. Hold the assembly for 10 to 15 seconds to ensure initial bonding. A continuous bead of cement should be evident around the joint. 6. Wipe off excessive cement with a rag (excessive cement can cause over -softening resulting in damage). The assembly must be allowed to set without any stress on the joint for 1 to 5 minutes. 7. The assemblies must be allowed to cure properly prior to use. Cure times are a function of pipe size, temperature, humidity and tightness of fit. Refer to following cure times: Pipe Temp I Temp Temp Size 60°F to 120°F 40°F to 59°F 0°F to 30°F 3/4" & 1" 1 1/2 hour 4 hour 48 hour ' For estimation purposes, approximately 270 joints can be made per quart of Xtralis VESDA CPVC one-step cement. www.xtralis.com he Americas +1 781 740 2223 Asia +852 2297 2438 Australia and New Zealand +61 3 9936 7000 ontinental Europe +41 55 285 99 99 UK and the Middle East +44 1442 242 330 The contents of this document are provided on an "as is" basis.
