Chapter 633 Florida Statutes, authorizes the City to charge and collect user fees to pay for the costs of fire
prevention and protection related activities such as inspections, plan review, administrative fees, and other
costs related to the aforementioned.
Compl—efe—Plans, Specifications, and Fee Must Accompany Application. Commencement of work without written approval
of the Fire Department's Safety Inspector or required permits or opening up for commercial activity without an approved
final inspection shall be charged double permit fee per day of operation or a minimum of $100.00, whichever is greater.
All work shall be performed in accordance with City Codes and Ordinances.

GENERAL NOTES:
1. THE FIRE ALARM SYSTEM DESIGN, INSTALLATION AND ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 70 & 72, THE SYSTEM SHALL ALSO MEET ALL APPLICABLE
BUILDING CODES, FIRE CODES AND THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE LOCAL AUTHORITY
HAVING JURISDICTION.
2. LOCATION AND PLACEMENT OF THE FIRE ALARM DEVICES ARE NOT TO BE
CONSIDERED DIAGRAMMATIC IN NATURE. ANY CHANGE IN THE LOCATION OR
PLACEMENT OF BOTH DETECTION AND NOTIFICATION DEVICES MUST BE REVIEWED
AND APPROVED BY THE E.O.R. FINAL APPROVAL OF DEVICE PLACEMENT IS SUBJECT
TO FIELD VERIFICATION FOR CODE COMPLIANCE.
3. THE SMOKE DETECTORS SHALL NOT BE PLACED WITHIN 36" IN FRONT OF THE
DISCHARGE OF THE VENTILATION DUCTS OR WITHIN 36" OF HOLES IN WALLS OR
CEILINGS UNLESS PART OF THE AIR RETURN SYSTEM.
4. HEAT DETECTORS SHALL BE USED IN AREAS WHERE THE ENVIRONMENT OR AMBIENT
CONDITIONS EXCEED SMOKE DETECTORS INSTALLATION GUIDELINES. IN AREAS
CONTAINING SPRINKLERS, HEAT DETECTORS MAY NOT BE REQUIRED..
5. ALL FIRE STROBES WHERE TWO OR MORE OR FLASHES FROM TWO OR MORE ARE
VISIBLE FROM ANY POINT, MUST BE SYNCHRONIZED UNLESS SEPARATED BY A
MINIMUM DISTANCE OF 55 FEET. WIRING AND HARDWARE CONFIGURATION FOR FIRE
STROBES IN A COMMON SPACE MUST BE PERFORMED CAREFULLY SINCE FEEDING
STROBES FROM DIFFERENT CIRCUITS OF DIFFERENT REMOTE POWER SUPPLIES OR
SYNC MODULES MAY CAUSE A CONDITION WHERE WITHIN THE SAME SPACE
SYNCHRONIZATION IS LOST DUE TO DIFFERENT POWER SOURCES AND
SYNCHRONIZATION TIMING. THE TRIGGER CIRCUIT FOR AUDIBLE SIGNALS SHOULD BE
FROM THE FACP TO INSURE SYNCHRONIZATION. ALL AUDIBLE SIGNALS MUST BE
SYNCHRONIZED WITH THE SAME NOTIFICATION ZONE.
6. PIPER FIRE PROTECTION SHALL MOUNT ALL FIRE ALARM VISUAL STROBE STATIONS TO
THE CODE COMPLIANT MOUNTING HEIGHT OF 80"-96" TO BOTTOM OF LENS.
7. PANELS MUST BE MOUNTED HIGHER THAN 6 FEET AND SYSTEM STATUS DISPLAYS ARE
TO BE EYE LEVEL (+60" AFF). NO EQUIPMENT OR RACEWAY MAY BE LOCATED UNDER A
CABINET CONTAINING BATTERIES.
8. THE AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL TRANSMIT THE ALARM, SUPERVISORY
AND TROUBLE SIGNALS TO AN APPROVED SUPERVISING STATION AS REQUIRED BY
NFPA 72. THE FACP SHALL REPORT CONTACT ID TO MONITORING AND 911. (WHERE
APPLICABLE)
9. ALL AIR HANDLER UNITS, AND EXHAUST FANS SHALL SHUTDOWN UPON ACTIVATION OF
NEW FIRE ALARM SYSTEM.
10. ALL MAGNETIC DOOR HOLDERS SHALL RELEASE UPON ACTIVATION OF NEW FIRE
ALARM SYSTEM.
11. INSTALL END -OF -LINE DEVICES AS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN CIRCUIT SUPERVISION.
12. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM CONDUIT SHALL NOT BE USED FOR ANY OTHER WIRING.
13. SPLICING OF FIRE ALARM WIRING IS NOT ALLOWED. ALL TERMINATIONS SHALL BE MADE IN
TERMINAL CABINETS ON TERMINAL BLOCKS OR ON FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT TERMINALS.
14. A LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL A 120 VAC 20A DEDICATED
CIRCUITS) FOR EACH CIRCUIT FEEDING FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT. CIRCUIT BREAKER AT
PANEL BOARD SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH A HANDLE LOCK -ON DEVICE AND SHALL BE
IDENTIFIED AS "FIRE ALARM CONTROL CIRCUIT". CIRCUIT NUMBER, ELECTRICAL PANEL
NAME AND LOCATION SHALL BE PERMANENTLY AND CLEARLY MARKED ON THE INSIDE
SURFACE OF THE FIRE ALARM UNIT. ACCESS TO CIRCUIT BREAKER(S) SHALL BE RESTRICTED
TO AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY. PROVIDE SURGE SUPPRESSOR AT INPUT OF FIRE ALARM
UNIT.
15. ALL FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LISTED FOR FIRE SERVICE.
16. ALL WIRING AND CONDUIT TO CONFORM TO NFPA 72 AND NEC ARTICLE 760, 725 & 800.
WIRING SHALL BE SOLID COPPER OR STRANDED COPPER WITH A MAX. OF 7 STRANDS FOR 16
GA NAD 18 GA. STRANDED COPPER WiTH A MAX. OF 19 STRANDS FOR SIZES 14 AND LARGER
PER NEC 760 AND NFPA 70.
17. ALL FIRE STOP PENETRATIONS SHALL BE MADE WITH APPROVED (NEC) METALLIC CONDUIT
AND SHALL BE SEALED WITH A U.L APPROVED FIRE STOP MATERIAL. (SEE FIRE STOP DETAIL)
18, ROUTING OF ALL FIRE ALARM CONDUIT AND WIRING IS DIAGRAMMATIC ONLY, VERIFY EXACT
REQUIREMENTS IN FIELD AND PROVIDE ACTUAL ROUTING ON AS -BUILT DRAWINGS.
19. ALL FIRE ALARM NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES SHALL ACTIVATE UPON INITIATION OF THE
GENERAL ALARM.
20. ALL FIRE ALARM NOTIFICATION APPLIANCES SHALL HAVE A SOUND LEVEL OF AT LEAST 15
dba ABOVE THE AVERAGE AMBIENT SOUND LEVEL.
21. MANUAL PULL STATIONS SHALL BE INSTALLED AT 48" INCHES A.F.F.
22. MOUNT AUDIBLE/VISUAL SIGNALS (COMBINATION DEVICES) SUCH THAT THE ENTIRE STROBE
LENS IS 80" A.F.F. OR 6" BELOW CEILING, WHICHEVER IS LOWER.
23. A GENERAL ALARM SHALL BE ANNUNCIATED UPON ACTIVATION OF ANY PULL STATION, FLOW
SWITCH OR DETECTION DEVICE.
24, A TROUBLE SIGNAL SHALL BE ANNUNCIATED UPON FAILURE OR REMOVAL OF ANY DETECTION
OR MANUAL DEVICE.
25. A SUPERVISORY SIGNAL SHALL BE ANNUNCIATED UPON ACTIVATION OF ANY FIRE SPRINKLER
SYSTEM TAMPER SWITCH.
26. HVAC DUCT SMOKE DETECTORS SHALL BE CONNECTED TO THE FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL
AND SHALL INITIATE A SUPERVISORY SIGNAL ONLY.
27. ALL FIRE ALARM INITIATING DEVICESSHALL B ADDRESSABLE AND ALL FIRE ALARM

CIRCUITS SHALL BE CLASS "B".
28. THE FIRE ALARM CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH THE MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR TO
PROVIDE ADDRESSABLE DUCT SMOKE DETECTORS WITH SERVICE ACCESS DOORS IN ALL
SUPPLY AIR DUCTS FOR FANS AND AHU'S SERVING A COMMON PLENUM OF 2000 CFM OR
ABOVE.
29. ALL DOORS EQUIPPED WITH ANY ACCESS CONTROL HARDWARE OR DELAYED EGRESS
HARDWARE SHALL RELEASE UPON ALARM ACTIVATION.
30. NOT ALL SYMBOLS, NOTES AND ABBREVIATIONS LISTED HEREIN APPLY TO THIS
PROJECT. REFER TO THE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS FOR SYMBOLS APPLICABLE TO
THIS SCOPE OF WORK.
31. FIRE ALARM DESIGN IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH FLORIDA STATUTES CHAPTER 61 G15-32.
WHERE A FIRE ALARM RISER IS INDICATED, IT IS DIAGRAMMATIC IN NATURE AND NOT
INTENDED TO REPRESENT A COMPLETE WIRING AND DEVICE DISPLAY.
REFER TO FLOOR PLANS FOR DESIGN INTENT AND PROPOSED QUANTITY OF THE
FIRE ALARM SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK: NEW FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
1. PROVIDE NEW FIRE ALARM CONTROL EQUIPMENT, INITIATING AND NOTIFICATION
DEVICES WITHIN THE PROJECT AREA IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DRAWINGS TO
MEET CURRENT CODE REQUIREMENTS.
2. THE AUTOMATIC FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SHALL TRANSMIT THE ALARM,
SUPERVISORY AND TROUBLE SIGNALS TO AN APPROVED SUPERVISING STATION
AS REQUIRED BY NFPA 72. THE FACP SHALL REPORT CONTACT ID TO
MONITORING AND 911. (WHERE APPLICABLE)
3. PIPER FIRE PROTECTION WILL CONDUCT A FINAL ACCEPTANCE TEST OF THE FIRE
ALARM SYSTEM AND FIRE ALARM COMPONENTS RELATED TO THE PROJECT'S
AREA OF WORK. FINAL ACCEPTANCE MUST BE WITNESSED BY THE AUTHORITY
HAVING JURISDICTION.

General Fire Alarm System Sequence of Operation
1. The Fire Alarm System SHALL operate as follows:
1.1 Manual Operation- operation of a manual free alarm pull station shall:
1.1.A. Identify the individual station on the system control panel and sound the alarm pizo
at the control panel and remote alarm panels.
1.1.B. Shut down ventilation systems.
1.1.C. Sound audible alarms and actuate notification devices.
1.1.D. transmit a signal to the central station.
1.1.E. Activate the printer.

2.1 Activation of a area smoke detector or heat detector, or sprinkler water -flow switch
SHALL cause the following:
2.1.A. Provide operation as described for manual fire alarm pull station.
2.1.B. A signal dedicated to the sprinkler system water -flow alarm SHALL not be able to be
silenced while the sprinkler system is flowing at a rate of flow equal to a single head.
3.1 Activation of any supervisory circuit SHALL cause the following actions and indications:
3.1.A. Display the origin of the supervisory condition report on the alphanumeric LCD
display at the control panel and remote annunciator panels.
3.1,B. Activate supervisory audible and visual signals at the control panel and remote
remote annunciator panels.
3.1.C. Record the occurrence of the event, the time of occurrence and the device initiating
the event.
4.1 Receipt of a trouble signal at the fire alarm control panel SHALL cause the following
actions and indications:
4.1.A. Display at the control panel and remote annunciator panels alphanumeric LCD
display, the origin of the trouble condition report.
4.1.B. Activate trouble audible and visual signals at the fire control panel and remote
annunciator.
4.1.C. Record the occurrence of the event, the time of occurrence and the device initiating
the event.
