listed inthis section deals with the limitations and parameters
of this pre-engineered system, Those individuals responsible
for the design ofthe R'lU2system must betrained and hold a
current AN8ULcertificate inanR-1V2training program.
The R-102 and the PIRANHA systems use compatible agents
and componena, thereforu, they may be used together for
cooking app|ianco, hoog, and duct protection. The primary
AUTOKAAN Release can be either an R'102 or a PIRANHA
AUTOKAANRelease and can actuate upnotwo additional R-lU2
or PIRANHA Regulated Actuators, In systems utilizing a 181
remote ru|easo, any combination o[the maximum number of
regulated actuators can beused.
'Both systems must actuate simultaneously.
^ Each system must bedesigned and installed per its appropri-
ate manual.
~ Adjacent appliances requiring protection must be protected
with the same type or system, either R'102 or P|RANHA,
unless the center -to -center spacing between the adjacent
R'102and PIRANHA nozzles isnoless than 30in. (S14mm).
^ When appliances are protected with R-102 nozzles, the
hood and connecting duct above those appliances cannot Ue
protected with PIRANHA nozzles.
^ Mixing systems inecommon plenum ianot allowed.

Each of these sections must be completed before attempting
any installation. System design sketches should be made of all
aspects ofdesign for reference during installation.

TheAN5ULR-102 Restaurant Fire Suppression System may be

listed in this section deals with the limitations and parameters
o/ this pre-engineered system. Those individuals responsible
for the design of the R-l02system must betrained and hold e
current ANGULcertificate inonR-1O2training program.
The R-102 and the PIRANHA systems use compatible agents
and components' therefo,e, they may be used together for
cooking app|ianoe, hood, and duct protection. The primary
AUTOMAN Release can be either on R'102 or a PIRANHA
AUTuKXANRelease and can actuate upmtwo additional R'102
orPIRANHA Regulated Actuators. \nsystems utilizing a1O1
remote release, any combination of the maximum number of
regulated actuators can beused.
^ Both systems must actuate simultaneously.
~ Each system must bedesigned and installed per its appropri-
ate munual.
~ Adjacent appliances requiring protection must be protected
with the same type or system, either R'lUZ or PIRANHA,
unless the center -to -center spacing between the adjacent
R'1o2and PIRANHA nozzles isnoless than 30in. (914mm),
^ When appliances are protected with R'102 nuzz|aa, the
hood and connecting duct above those appliances cannot be
protected with PIRANHA nozzles.
^ Mixing systems inacommon plenum iunot allowed.
One of the key elements for restaurant fire protection iaucorrect
system design. This section iedivided into 10oub'eao8onu:
Nozzle Placement Requirements, Tank Quantity Requirements,
Actuation and Expellant Goa Lino Roquir*mome, Distribution
Piping Requirements, Detection System Requirementa,
Manual Pull Station Requiramorua, Mechanical Gas Valve
Raquiromenua, Electrical Gas Valve Renuiemarua, Electrical
Switch Requirements, and Pressure Switch Requirements.
Each of these sections must be completed before attempting
any installation. System design sketches should be made ofall
aspects cddesign for reference during installation.
This section gives guidelines for nozzle type, positioning, and
quantity for duct, plenum, and individual appliance protection.
This section must becompleted before determining tank quan-
tity andpipingvequimmonta.
All duct protection isULlisted without limitation ormaximum duct
length (unlimited length). This includes all varieties ofductworks
both horizontal and vertical including ducts that run coangles on
the horizontal and ducts with directional bends.
Ncme Ducts from multiple hoods connected to n common
\ ductwork must be protected in compliance with NFPA9O and
all local codes,
The R'1O2system uses different duct nozzles depending onthe
size n(duct being protected.

2, In installations *hem a UL listed damper assembly is
omployed, the duct nozzle can be installed beyond the 8

assembly that will not interfere with the damper. Exceeding
the maximum of in, (203 mm) in this way will not void the

ACTUATION AND EXPELLANT GAS LINE REQUIREMENTS
This section contains the guidelines for installing the actuation
and expellant gas lines between the regulated release mech-
anism regu|avnr, each regulated actuator regulator, and each
agent tank. These limitations should boconsidered when select-
ing th*oomponentmoun1|ng|ocationo.
The actuation gas line iethe length ofpipe and/or hose that io
run from either the AUTOMANRegulated Release Assembly or
the Remote Release Assembly that directs high pressure from
the cartridge inthe release tuactuate one ormore additional
Regulated Actuator Assemblies. The actuation gas line can
consist o/1/4in. Schedule 4Oblack iron, ohmme'p|euod.stain-
less stae|, or galvanized steel pipe and fittings, and/or factory
supplied stainless steel braided actuation hose.
The expellant gas line isthe length o[pipe that isrun from the
regulator |neither the AUTOMANRegulated Release Assembly
or a Regulated Actuator Assembly that directs regulated pres-
sure to the agent storage tanks to pressurize the tank and
discharge the agent. The expellant gas line shall consist of 1/4
in, Schedule 4Oblack iron, chmme'p|med.stainless steel, or
galvanized steel pipe and fittings,

~oTank maximum reflects the utilization wxtank regulated actuators.
1. Use only 1/4in. Schedule 40black iron, hot -dipped galva'
nized, chmme-p|ated, orstainless steel pip* and fittings,
2, The actuation gas line piping ieinstalled from the regulated
release mechanism to each regulated actuator connected
within the system, The total length cdthe actuation gas line
from the regulated release assembly to the regulated actua-
tor assembly(ies) must not exceed 20 It (6.0 m) when using
an LT-20-R. an LT-30'R nitrogen cartridge, or 101'10nra
101'2Vcarbon dioxide cartridge. See Figure 4-121.
