ROUND TAPERED FIBERGLASS
SERIES E35 AND E36
1. General Description
1,1 Fiberglass lighting pole to be round. hollow, and of
uniform taper along its length. The butt end of the embed-
ded-type poles will be enlarged and square so as to in-
crease resistance to rotation and provide maximum ground
bearing resistance (anti-lift!. The pole shall be non-conduc-
tive and chemically inert.
2. Installation Data
2.1 Direct embedded poles from 15 ft. to 17 ft. will be
set to a depth of 3 ft. Direct embedded poles 18 ft. to 29
ft. will be set to a depth of 4 ft. Poles 30 ft. or more will
be set to a depth of 5 ft.
3. Pole Shaft Construction
3.1 The pole will be constructed from continuous fiber-
glass filaments combined with thermosetting polyester
resin.
3.2 The fiberglass and resin ratio of the pole will contain
at least 65 % glass, the balance polyester resin.
3,3 The glass filament will be helically-wound under
tension, first at a relatively high angle (65-85 degrees) to
the longitudinal axis of the pole. with alternate layers of
filaments in opposite directions for maximum circum-
ferential (compressive) strength.
Secondly, an outer core section of greater weight than the
inner core section is helically-wound by wrapping continu-
ous glass filaments at a relatively low angle (3-15 degrees)
to the longitudinal axis of the pole for maximum longitudi-
'1 (bending) strength.
,4 The pole shall have a minimum wall thickness of 3/32
In. The pole shall have a tapered wall increasing in thick-
ness from the top to base in proportion to the load and
ground line moment requirements. The pole will be rein-
forced in areas of hand holes and special hardware attach-
ments.
3.5 The pole shall be designed with a minimum safety
factor of 2 to 1 and have no more than 15 % deflection at
full wind loading.
4. Pole Top
4.1 Tenon Style: A steel tenon will be firmly bonded to
the pole for mounting a post top luminaire. The steel tenon
will be straight with no taper. The tenon will be coated
with matching urethane finish.
4.2 Bracket Style: The pole shall be capped (optional) and
reinforced for side mounted bolt-on brackets.
5. Handhole
5.1 The handhole shall be 2% in. x 5 in. oval, located 18
in. above grade. The cover shall be non-corrosive metal
painted to match the pole and secured with a stainless
steel, tamper-proof locking screw.
6. Wire Entrance
6.1 The pole shall have a wire entrance hole of 2 in. x 5
in. located 24 in. below grade, 900 clockwise to luminaire.
7. Finish
7.1 The surface of the pole shall be uniform and consis-
tent for the entire length of the pole.
7.2 The resin shall contain colored pigment to match the
finish coat of the pole. Solid coloration will be throughout
the entire wall thickness of the pole.
7.3 The finish coating will be a pigmented urethane finish
capable of withstanding exposure to ultraviolet, chemicals,
and extreme weather conditions.
7.4 The surface coating shall be a minimum dry film
thickness of 1 Y, mils.
