As of this date, the City of Zephyr hills, Building Department, has not done anything to rectify the situation. Currently the drainage ditch is still overgrown. with an abundant population of rats, snakes and mosquito's. The ditch is unsightly, unhealthy, and foul smelling. Due to the health risk to employees, I must request that this situation be taken care of immediately. Please also note that the potable water being fed to the business is also foul smelling, foul tasting, and unfit .for human consumption. When complained about, City of Zephyrhills informs us that for some reason the city chlorinating does not reach our business. The city has flushed the water lines twice in the past year and half This only relieves the problem for about a month. Within the next month the water is back to being unfit for human consumption. The current condition of the ditch has created an infestation of rodents, insects, and snakes. While mowing my property on Sunday, June 15, 1997, I was nearly bitten by a rat the size of a stnall cat, adjacent to the north side of my building. On Monday, June 16, 1997, I called City Hall to request that the ditch be cleaned out. Today, June 17, 1997, while talking to the Building Department, I was informed by the head of the Building Department, Bill Burgess, that thier intention is to create a worse infestation of rodents, insects, and st1akes, by declaring the ditch a wetlands. They also informed me that they are requesting Swift Mud to delcare the ditch as a wetlands. If you take the time to look at the lease that I signed in June 1995, and the current use of the airport at that time, nowhere was it declared that there would be a wetlands at that location then or in the future. Had this been disclosed to me I would certainly not have signed a lease bordering on a wetlands, I would have chosen a different location. To create this type of hazzard to myself and my employee's is a very serious situation. I am therefore requesting that the infestation within the ditch be immediately removed. Also, that the ditch be maintained as the ditch bordering the golf course, also on Airport property, is currently being maintained to insure proper drainage, as the ditch was original designed to do.
