in the State of Florida.
INTRODUCTION

At the request of Mr. Thomas Snell, Owner and President of
Alumco Industries, 5100 - 140th Avenue North, CleUlwater, F.lorida, I
have made an jnspection of the materials and method of construction
used in the installation of an ALUMINUI\1 ROOF - OVER over the
existing roof of an existing mobile home.
This report was originally prepared in October, 1990 in
accordance with the .1.988 Standard building Code. Minor Revisions
were. made in order to conform wHh with the Aluminum Association of
Florida requirements for the Aluminum Pan used in the "Roof Over".
, The report was again reviewed at the time of adoption of the 1991
Standard Building Code and is in compliance witll the requirements of
Appendix H (Manufactured Homes Tie Down Standards.).
In Janual)' of 1992 a series of tests were performed in the
presence of the Building Director of Pinellas County, Mr. Robert
Pensa, and members of his staff, to determinc tbe effects of negative
pressure.
In November and December of 1992, aninvcstigative report was
made of the damage which occurred to Mobile Homes jJl the tornado
of October, 1992 in Pinellas Park and PineHas County.

Additions to this report wm be added from time to time as
improved method:> are devised by the contractors who are inst;:dling
the "ROOF - OVER" in the. field.

PURPOSE
It is the purpose of this report to, develop a procedure will
provide a rain-proof covering with out creating :;truclural pJ:oblems for
the Mobile Home. The Mobile Home, is instalJec.l in most bullding
ji.lrisdictions in accordance with Appendix H of the Standard Building
Code (1991 Edition).
The alloy used is H 3105 - H 14 which is used in thicknesses of
0.026", 0.03211 and 0040". This alloy is given an "All rating by the
Aluminum Association, - 900 - 19th Street NW, Washington D. C.
20006, for use in areas subject to corrosion which exist in Industrial and
Seascoast Atmospheres WITHOUT PROTECTION.
The Insulation "Sandwich" which is installed between the
Aluminum pan and the existing Mobile Home is 2 i11ch thick
STYROFOAM with aluminum foil on the top side. This Styrofoam
package is manufaclured in .:lccordance with ASTM C 578 - 85.
All connections shall be made with SHEET METAL SCREWS
\yith appropriate WASHERS. The SM Screws give a much better
connection than TEK Screw.

Figure 1 depicts a double wide Mobil!:.: I-Iome with a roof pitch or
Y inches in 12 feel. The ins(cdlt;ltiol1 procedure is the :l(llne with
greater pitches or with roof:> which "m: lilid on the arc of a circle.
Approximately 80% of the 1'\'1()bj[~ Home H..o()[ is os you see in
Figure 1. In the remninillg 20% of tlte Mobile H()Ille Roof is taken up
wilh vents to the atmosphere for the severC,11 plumbing fixtures. In these
areas the "Aluminum (lnd StyroI'O(l/11 Pan are shaped to provide a
s\I1ooth connection. l'lnsltillg is provided to ensure that the entire

This procedure is repeated for the opposite side of the Mobile
Home, starting this time with the Peak Anchor, which is shown in
Figure 4.
Each of the 4 X 12 panels are then made to the opposite eave.
This time the last sheet ,is fitted at the eave. The Eave Anchor shown
on Fig 2 is placed and secured.
All of the joints made by the styro panels are covered with
adhesive aluminum tape.

The pan (shown in Figure 3) sha~ed with 0.026 Aluminum is
furnished in 12 inch widths with i- 1/2 fasteners (legs). The pan is
attach~d the the 2" leg of the 2 X 3 angle shown on Figure 2.
Each pan sheet is slightly longer than the overall distance Eave to
Eave. '
The Contractor will Gut the vertical members of the "Pan" at the
peak so that the panel breaks and lays flat on the 2 inch Styrnafoaul.

The Contractor then trims the excess of the pan at the eave and
places 12 -#8 screws -112" long on EVERY panel as indicclted in
Figure 1.
The Contractor will then apply a waterproof sealant over EVERY
screw which has been inserted.

INSTALLED IN THE MANNER DESCRIBED IN THIS REPORT, I CAN
CERTIFY TO YOU THAT THE ROOF-OVER PANEL WILL BECOME
AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE ORIGINAL MOBILE HOME.
I CAN FURTHER CERTIFY TO YOU THAT WITH THE "ALUMINUM
MOBILE HOME ROOF OVER, THAT THE MOBILE HOME WILL BE
STRONGER THAN IT WAS WITH THE ORIGINAL MOBILE HOME ROOF.
