If additional support is needed, Child Safe supplies specially designed planters that attach to the inside of the fence. No Metal Poles Mean No Lightning Hazard Other safety fences use metal poles. The Shahla Fence does not. Most building codes require that metal objects within five feet of the pool deck be grounded. Strong PVC Frame Construction Manufactured using furniture grade PVC pipe, the Shahla Fence is strong and durable. It will support 300 pounds and does not sag. True Hinged Safety Gate Our hinged gate construction makes the Shahla Fence the quickest closinQ pool fence available. http://libI.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/childsafepoolfence/right.html Page I ot7 1/6/2004 r i:1~t: Illlt: Four and Five Foot Tall Versions Available The National Spa and Pool Institute (NSPI) reviewed 10 years of drowning records and found no record of a child climbing a 4 foot tall fence and then drowning in the pool. The Child Safe Pool Fence Story In many southern states, the number one cause of accidental death of toddlers is drowning. Over half of those who drown are children under four years of age. http://libI.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.comllib/childsafepoolfence/right.html "." J. 0.0'" ~ VJ. Methods of Pool Protection There are a number of precautions that homeowners can take to safeguard their children, grandchildren, neighbors, and visitors: . . Keeping screen doors locked . Teaching your child to swim as early as possible . Adult supervision . Consistent use of a quality pool fence Layer Your Protection Pool fences that extend the screen wall or completely surround the pool provide the best protection and are the best safety measure you can take. They offer additional security for those times when audible alarms may not be heard over household noise. The Shahla Fence Prior to 1991, a pool owner's only choice was a fence made with metal poles - and without a gate. This metal pole construction attracts lightning. An installer must also drill the pool deck to hold the poles. These holes remain long after the fence is removed. The Child Safe Pool Company felt that there should be an alternative. After consulting with engineers, pool builders, architects, PVC manufacturers, and homeowner's like you, the Shahla fence was developed. It is appreciated by many homeowners as the solution to their dilemma. They can now have the safety of a fence and still preserve their pool deck. The Shahla fence is constructed of furniture grade PVC pipe along with a safety mesh screen. It is attractive to the eye, but not to lightning. Each fence is customized to fit the needs of each pool owner by using a combination of standard components. The Shahla Fence is also available in kit form, in counties where a local installer is not available. By following the directions in the Order Form section you can design your fence in just a few minutes. Installation is simple and requires only common hand tools. The Shahla Fence is designed for infants and toddlers, and should not be subjected to abuse by older children. The Shala fence should never be used in place of adult supervision while toddlers play on the pool deck. http://libI.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/childsafepoolfence/right.html 1/6/2004 Page Title This is why you own the Shahla Child Safe Pool Fence. A toddler is safely kept from venturing near the pool. Designing Your Fence They're a few simple guidelines to designing your fence . Each fence should have only one gate. The second gate may be convenient, but research has shown it to be the most likely to be forgotten when it is time to close them. . The fence should be no closer than 20" to the edge of the pool at any point. This allows an adult to walk around the pool while cleaning it, or to provide a helping hand to a swimmer in need. . In a screened in pool, there should be a support point at least every 12' along the fence. In an unscreened pool, the support points should be at least every 10'. Support points can be walls, pillars, posts, or planters. . The gate size can vary up the maximum distance allowed between support points; but the most popular size is the doublewide gate, which provides an opening of about 8'. We usually place the gate in front of the steps at the shallow end for convenience and safety. Now, with these guidelines in mind you are ready to map out your fence. Take a few coins and place them on the deck (or you may use pencils, if going over the ground) . .. . 'I . T,.....,.. . . http://libI.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/childsafepoolfence/right.html Page 4 ot "/ 1/6/2004 Page Title ~.",.. ."",:-,',~,;........-., at each pOInt me tence WIll make a turn. 11 me tence must go up a step, each step must be measured as a separate leg of the fence, as well. You will also have to note the height of any step that is over nine inches high. Sketch the fence and pool on the graph paper below, describing the points of support that are available i.e. screen wall, stucco pillar, three inch aluminum post. If you are going over the pool deck, make a circle with an "X" at each point that you will be using one of our planters for support according to point #3 above. If you are going over ground, you can use a wood post. Installation The picture above s ey are, a level, a drill, Phillips and flat head screwdriver bit, WI cement bit, 1/16" metal drill bit, plastic mallet, PVC cutters, and a tape measure. We provide all the necessary hardware. We also include an installation video, and a custom assembly plan for your fence. Ordering Your Fence The pic Letter each turn of the fence in the sketch, step, beginning and ending of the gate, and http://libl.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/childsafepoolfence/right.html Page 5 of7 1/6/2004 Page Title beginning and ending points of the fence; if it does not go completely around the pool. Now, with these points labeled a,b,c,..., you can measure a-b, b-c, c-d... and list these distances on the order form below. Write gate, next to the leg which contains the gate; and step, next to any leg, which is a step (including its height if it is over nine inches high). Make each measurement in inches to make adding easier. Total the legs, and divide by 12, to get total feet (rounding up). Then multiply by the price per foot for the height of fence you want. If you need support points on the deck, then you may order planters to provide support as indicated in guideline #3. You will need two bags of marble chips for each planter. If you need support over the lawn, wooden posts can be purchased at a lumberyard or hardware store. They should be at least 6' tall and treated for outdoor use. We do not ship posts or rock for the planters due to shipping costs. Add up the planters used and record on the order form. Multiply by the price per planter. Add to the fencing cost to get the total fence price. Add the shipping charge of 15%, and 7% sales tax if in Florida. We ship by u. P. s. so we must have a street address.
