On the rear carport and front porch areas, the beam to post connections were modified as follows: At some posts, the roof headers were supported by scabbing a continuous 2" X 4" P.T. board on the side of the post with a minimum of 10 - 16d nails and strapping the 2" X 4" scab to the beam with (2) USP "RT20" straps. Also, on the rear carport, the beam closest to the doorway into the laundry room can be constructed as a double or triple 2" X 12" (#2 yellow pine) beam, if desired.
