Use protective clothing and gloves. To prevent eye injury, safety glasses must be worn when drilling or cutting steel panels. Use caution when walking on any roofing panel. Proper under-Iayment is necessary to prevent fall-through. Plywood under-Iayment is to be used on all non-structural panel applications. ATFAB recommends all installers follow the OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) requirements for all protection (#3146, dated 1995), Steel panels can become slippery when wet. Do not work on steel panels when wet weather conditions are not suitable for safe installation. HANDLING & STORAGE Panels should be installed immediately, Proper care in storing and handling metal panels is essential for providing years of service. Any panels not immediately installed must be kept dry and stored in an indoor area; protected from moisture. Caution is recommended to prevent moisture penetration in stacks of the product from rain, snowfall or condensation. Do not cover metal with plastic, which can create condensation; moisture that accumulates naturally from the change in temperature of the material nested in a stack where adequate ventilation is not available. ROOF APPLICATIONS: (PBR-Panel) Cl\,;\;UIUi:UI\;e WILli rlUnUi:I Dunulng voce. Note: In residential applications, building codes require a plywood deck with the use of #30 felt to provide adequate thermal & moisture barrier protection. (Batten strips 24" on center attached - to a plywood deck are optional. Fastening calculations must be computed by an engineer to meet specific wind requirements if the building parameters differ from the parameters stated in the fastening schedule. / PBR & R-PANEl INSTAllATION SPECIFICATIONS Wood Deck: Must be minimum 1/2" structural plywood or OSB (5/8" for Metro-Dade new construction/or High Wind Velocity Zones/120 mph and above) supported on rafters at a, maximum of 24" on-center. Battens: PBR metal roofing can be separated from the moisture barrier by minimum, nominal 1" x 3" yellow pine battens spaced on maximum 24" centers or according to ASCE calculations where applicable. CAUTION: Direct contact between pressure treated lumber, green, or damp lumber and metal roofing must be avoided in order to prevent potential corrosion. The battens must be fastened to the roof deck with minimum #6 screws at 12" on-center or two minimum 8d common or pneumatic nails spaced 8" o,c. or one every 4" on-center (or by applicable calculations according to ASCE 7-98. Battens must be installed to support the entire width and length of ridge, eave, hip, valley, and gable end trims, Battens are optional if re-roofing over shingles. NOTE: Re-roofing over shingles without a batten is allowed providing the roof has been checked by a licensed roofing contractor to insure levelness and pull-out integrity. 1. Start at the gable or rake opposite of the prevailing wind. The leading edge should not be the purlin bearing leg. 2. It is imperative that the panels be laid in square to insure proper lapping. (a chalk line 38" from the gable edge running from the ridge to the eave can be used as a guide). 3. SIDE LAP PROCEDURE: Side-lap detail Diagram A, A TF AS recommends butyl sealant tape on all roofing applications. Pay careful attention that the purlin bearing leg is lapped over as shown in Diagram A. 1. PBR Panel used as siding is side lapped the same as in roof application. R-Panel used as siding has similar side lap method without the purlin bearing leg. 3. Butyl sealant tape is not required for sidelap applications. However, butyl sealant tape is recommended where any closures are necessary. 4. See diagram B view for R-Panel side-lap procedure. FASTENERS: See Diagram D Consult ATFAB for the specific recommendation of compatible fasteners. Fastener selection is based on the substrate of the specific material chosen for application. Metal-to-Wood Application: PBR panels are to be fastened to a plywood deck or a plywood deck with purlins by a minimum #9x1-1/2" compatible fasteners. The stitch screw for wood application are #12x3/4" wood-fast stitch. SIDING APPLICATIONS: (PBR & R-Panel) Metal-to-Metal Application: Attach PBR panels to metal purlins with a minimum #12x1" hex head Tek screw or equivalent. Recommending use of stitch screw for metal application are #14x7/8" metal-fast stitch. END LAP PROCEDURE: When long panel runs are required, advise end lapping two or more panels to span the required distance. The upper panel should always overlap the lower panel a minimum of 12 inches to insure correct drainage. Two strips of butyl sealant tape should be installed across the panel width for additional weather tightness. EAVE DETAIL PROCEDURE: Inside PBRlR closures and butyl sealant tape on eave applications to avoid water infiltration. "IUUI:: UI:: I AIL r~v"c:uun.c:: I ne appropnate cap IS placea on top of the closures and screw fastened through each rib on twelve (12) inch centers. TRIMMING AND CUTTING STEEL PANELS: When cutting with the profile (length wise) or across the profile (width wise), it is best to utilize an electric nibbler, shears or hand tin snips. It is especially important to cut panels one at a time with the finish side of the panel facing down on wood blocks. Care should be taken to ensure that the hot metal particles and filings that occur from cutting and fastening screws do not become implanted in the metal panel. IMPORTANT: Filings from fastening screws and panel cuttings must be cleared off the panels after fastening screws have been applied through the panel to avoid rust marks on the panels. Failure to comply with the above procedures relieves ATFAB of responsibility for any resulting damage to, or deterioration of the finish and voids any paint or finish warranty. Safety ATFAB recommends compliance with the Florida Fall Protection Act. Ridge Cap - To be used at the peak of a two-slope roof. The ridge can be ventilated by using a ridge vent. Hip Cap - Offers coverage of the projecting angles formed at the intersection of the two sloping roof planes. Gable Trim - For installation on the edge of the roof (between the ridge and the eave) securing the first panel edge and the last panel edge. Eave Trim - To be used at the eave or gutter edge of the building, and must be installed before any panels. Valley Used to flash the vaney formed by intersecting roof planes, Sidewall - Apply when the roofing panel is installed parallel to a vertical wall. Endwall - Used when the upper end of panel butts into a vertical wall. i:J1.C;:CfJvl U IQI I U Ie IVVYt;;;;;1 i:)C""UUII.. Gambrel Condition - Used to changeover from a low slope to a steep slope. Deflection loads are based on limiting deflection of span L, divided by 180 (U180). 3. Winds loads are based on unit stress increased 1.33% over the live loads. 4. Metal thickness is based on minimum AISI specifications for galvanized steel sheets. ATFAB Fastening 'Fastener Position ~ Detail F + Detail G WC-3636 Acceptable fasteners include galvanized nails or plated self-drilling wood screws. Nails should be spiral or ring shank design with a neoprene gasketing under the head. The corrrect way to nail is to drive the fastener through the stee~so the nail washer is compressed securely against the metal. Refer to Detail "C". However, , DO NOT OVER.DRIVEthe nail and dimple the steel. If this is done, water may collect in the dimpled area and leak through. Under-driving can also allow leakage to occur around the nail shaft. Wood screws with combination metal and neoprene washers should be mechanically driven into the valley or the bottom fIat of the profile. Refer to Detail "D". When using nails, the nails should be two inches long to penetrate approximately 11,4 inches into the purlin when driven through the rib. Screw length should allow a penetration of one inch. When installing panels over insulation board, increase the above lengths by the amount of insulation thickness. Select nail lengths for roofing and siding that do not completely penetrate through purlins or girts. Never drive nails or screws through the drain chan. nel, as the result may cause leakage and ruin the effec.- tiveness of the drain channel. Detail "E" shows the proper fastening through the lap joint. Correct Under-Driven Detail C Detail D Nail Fasteners As illustrated in Detail "F" CENTURYDRAIN roofing should be attached through the top of each major rib into each purlin. If the roof purlins are spaced less than 18" on center, an alternate fastening pattern is through every major rib on every other purlin and nailing only !\~ center rib on alternating purlins. When using nails, attachment along the ridge and eave purlin on the roof should be through the bottom flat of the sheet instead of the top flat of the main rib. (Detail "G"l. ~ + . . D-96-SP-20M Over-Driven Detail E When using nail fasteners and attaching CENTURY- DRAIN wall panels to girts, either a pattern attaching every major rib over wall girts or in the bottom fIat sur- face next to each major rib may be used. (Detail "F" or "G"l. Screw Fasteners When using screw fasteners, it is recommended that screws be placed in the bottom flat surface immediately adjacent to the major rib on one side or the other for both roofing and siding panels. {Detail "G"I. + + + + - Printed in U.S.A.
