The AUTOPULSE'! 542R is a six zone FACP lor single and dual hazard
agent releasing applications. The AUTOPULSE 542R provides reliable
lire detection, signaling and protection lor commercial, industrial and
institutional buildings requiring agent-based releasing. The AUTOPULSE
542R is compatible with System Sensor's i3 detectors which are
conventional smoke detectors that can transmit a maintenance trouble
signal to the FACP indicating the need for cleaning and a superviSOry
'freeze' signal when the ambient temperature falls below the detector
rating of approximately 45 of (7.22 OC), In addition, the control panel is
compatible with conventional input devices such as two-wire smoke
detectors, four-wire smoke detectors, pull stations, waterflow devices,
tamper switches and other normally-open contact devices. Refer to
Device Compatibility Document for a complete listing of compatible
devicQs."
Four outputs are programmable as NACs (Notification Appliance
Circuits) or releasing circuits. Three programmable Form-C relays
(factory programmed for Alarm, Trouble and SuperviSOry) and 24 VDC
special application resettable and non-resettable power outputs are also
included on the main circuit board. The AUTOPULSE 542R supervises
all wiring, AC voltage, battery charger and battery level.
Activation of a compatible smoke detector or any normally open fire
alarm initiating device will activate audible and visual signaling devices,
illuminate an indicator, display alarm information on the panel's LCD,
sound the piezo sounder at the FACP, activate the FACP alarm relay
and operate an optional module used to notify a remote station or initiate
an auxiliary controllunction. .
The AUTOPULSE 542R(E) releasing panel offers the same features as
the AUTOPULSE 542R but allows connection to 220/240 VAC, Unless
otherwise specified, the information in this data sheet applies to both the
110/120 VAC and 220/240 VAC versions of the panels,

Abort Switch
Features
Stackable, screw-terminal, contact blocks
. Compatible with AUTOPULSE~ control units
. Surface-mount assemblies listed by Underwriters
Laboratories, Inc,
. Components mounted on stainless steel switch plate
Applications
The Abort. Switch is used to momentarily interrupt the release
circtJn signal when the control unit is in the alarm condition,
As long as the abort pushbutton is held in, the fire suppres-
sion system will not release, (Note: When the control unit is
programmed for IRI compliance, the abort will not be effec-
tive after pre-discharge,) When the pushbutton is released,
the release circuit is activated (unless the control unit has
been reset to the non-alarm condition).
Description
The Abort Switch assembly consists of a momentary-
contact pushbutton switch, normally-open contact block,
normally-closed contact block, and stainless steel switch
plate with silk-screened label. Surface-mount assemblies
include a single-gang weather-proof box with three 1/2 in.
I.P.S, threaded conduit outlets and gasket.
The stackable, screw-terminal contact blocks are rated for 28
VDC @ 1,1 amp makelbreak or 6 amp continuous carry,
Listings and Approvals
The switch is UL listed (S3623) when installed in the surface-
mount box (with gasket) that is provided with the surface-
mount assembly.

CV-98 Electric Actuator
Description
Electrical actuation of a CV-98 INERGEN valve is accom-
plished by a CV-98 electric actuator interfaced through an
AUTOPULSE Control System. This actuator can be used in
hazardous environments where the ambient temperature
range is between 32 of to 130 of (0 oC to 54 OC). The elec-
tric actuator meets the requirements of N.E.C. Class I, Div.
1, Groups B, C, D and Class II, Div. 1, Groups E, F, G. A
maximum of two CV-98 electric actuators can be used on a
single AUTO PULSE release circuit. When using either one
~ or two CV-98 electric actuators, a current limiter module,
Part-No. 427354, must always be used.
The Actuator Shipping Assembly contains a current Iim-
~ iter module along with an installation instruction sheet.
The actuator specifications are:
Nominal Voltage
~ 24 VDC @ .75 amps
In auxiliary or override applications, a manual cable pull
actuator can be installed on top of the CV-98 electric
actuator by removing the safety cap.
~ A manual lever actuator, Part No. 423309, is available for
~ use with the CV-98 electric actuator.
The actuator contains a standard 1/2 in. threaded female
straight connector for electrical conduit hookup.
The CV-98 electric actuator uses a replaceable

APPLICATION
INERGENll extinguishing agent used in
Ansul engineered systems is particularly
useful for hazards where an electrical. 0.00.-
conductive medium is essential or desirable;
where clean-up of other agents presents a
problem; where hazard obstructions require
the use of a gaseous agent; or where the
hazard is normally occupied and requires a
non-toxic agent.
The follOwing are typical hazards protected
by INgRGEN systems:
o Computer rooms
o Subfloors
o Tape storage
o Telecommunications/Switchgear
o Vaults
o Process equipment
o All normally occupied or unoccupied areas
where electronic equipment is either very
sensitive or irreplaceable
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
INERGEN agent Is a mixture of three natu-
rally occurring gases: nitrogen, argon and
carbon dioxide. As INERGEN agent is
derived from gases present in the earth.s
atmosphere. it exhibits no ozone depleting
potential, does not contribute to global warm-
ing, nor does it contribute unique chemical
species with extended atmospheric lifetimes.
Because INERGEN agent is composed of
atmospheric gases. it does not pose the
problems of toxicity associated with the
chemically derived Halon altemative agents.
DESCRIPTION
INERGEN agent is a plentiful. non.corrosive
gas that does not support combustion nor
react with most substances. INERGEN agent
contains only naturally-occurring gases which
have no impact on the ozone or the environ-
ment in general. INERGEN agent is a mix-
ture of three inerting (oxygen diluting) gases:
52% nitrogen, 40% argon. and 8% carbon
dioxide. INERGEN agent extinguishes fire by
lowering the oxygen content below the level
that supports combustion. When INERGEN
agent is discharged into a room, it introduces
the proper mixture of gases that still allow a

SYSTEMS
DATA SHEET
person to breathe in a reduced oxygen
atmosphere. It actually enhances the body's
ability to assimilate oxygen. The normal
atmosphere in a room contains approximate-
ly 21% oxygen and less than 1% carbon
dioxide. If the oxygen content is reduced
below 15%, most ordinary combustibles will
not bum. INERGEN agent will reduce the
oxygen content to approximately 12.5% while
increasing the carbon dioxide content to
about 3%. The increase in the carbon dioxide 4
content increases a person's respiration rate
and the body's ability to absorb oxygen.
Simply stated, the human body is stimulated
by the carbon dioxide to breathe more deeply
and rapidly to compensate for the lower oxy-
gen content of the atmosphere.
PERFORMANCE
INERGEN is an effective fire extinguishing
agent that can be used on many types of
fires. INERGEN extinguishing system units
are designed for total flooding protection
against Class A surface burning, Class B
flammable liquid, and Class C fires occurring
within an enclosure by lowering the oxygen
content below the level that supports com-
