Hi Bobbie,
I've not had that particular request so I tried to do some research. I've had groups that rented and held sales in
hotel conference centers, but never in an individual room, We probably would NOT allow it based on zoning and
use regulations. The actual hotel room is zoned for transient occupancy, not for any other type of use, such as
commercial or merchant. Setting up and buying coins would be a commercial use. Most hotels do have ancillary
uses within, such as spas, retail stores, restaurants.etc, but setting up in a dwelling unit for this type of business
would not be considered an ancillary use.
The following link is to the Attorney General website and is a warning about fraudulent coin dealers. I haven't yet
found any agency that licenses them. I would think there are some regulations, such as for pawn shops, but I've
not found any. I would definitely get all of the dealers information, and if a corporation or fictitious name, require a
Florida registration with the Division of Corporations, FEIN # or social security #, identification, etc. Even if not a
permanent city business, I would categorize them under our "Old gold and precious metals dealer" classification,
which the fee is $200.00.
