The load test for three panels that have a break point load within 15% of each other are averaged. The loads selected are at L/180 and the results of the longest panels tested. A simple beam formula is used to calculate the panels effective IxE values. The test used for analysis were test that I supervised and directed and performed on pans manufactured by Metals USA Building Products Southeast, Inc.. I verified the pan material hardness (alloy) and thickness of each panel prior to each test. The series of test on various pan thickness and shapes was performed to determine effective values of lx. The test demonstrated that the panels deflected below 1/60 without failure. The calculated Ix values were compared to theoretical values calculated by AUTOCAD. Since the values of Sx are dual in nature because of the U shape of the panels Ix is used for the table calculations. For those panels not tested, a multiplier for theoretical to effective value was determined using the test pan data of a similar size and shape. The summary of the test analysis and calculated values is attached. Values of IxE are used in the span table formulas to produce allowable spans at different beam support conditions. Formulas are as follows: 1. One and two span: Deflection = 0.0130x(W/12)xL^4/Exl. 2. Three span: Deflection = 0.0069x(W/12)xL^4/EI. 3. Four span: Deflection = 0.0065x(W/12)xL^4/EI. The deflection limit was set at 1/85 for all panels. 1 of 2 As defined by the Florida Building Code, roof panels are Components and Cladding as well as roof support members. Thus the design loads selected are those of Components and Cladding. An evaluation program is added to check the panel effective wind area (A = L^2/3) produced by each load and if the effective wind area of the panel exceeds that of the design load the panel can be checked for a higher effective wind are and its load until the produced effective wind area is most closely matched. The span tables from the lotus spread sheets with the design loads are attached. The "in-house" test results, design methodology, and supporting data were used for this project and are retained in my office.
