If the contractor is not licensed as required by law, both the owner and contractor may be cited for a misdemeanor violation under state law. If the owner or intended contractor are uncertain as to what licensing requirements may apply for the intended work, they are advised to contact the Pasco County Building Inspection Division — Licensing Section at 727 -847- 8009. Furthermore, if the owner has hired a contractor or contractors, he is advised to have the contractor(s) sign portions of the "contractor Block" of this application for which they will be responsible. If you, as the owner sign as the contractor, that may be an indication that he is not properly licensed and is not entitled to permitting privileges in Pasco County. If the fill material is to be used in Flood Zone "A ", it is understood that a drainage plan addressing a "compensating volume" will be submitted at time of permitting which is prepared by a professional engineer licensed by the State of Florida. If the fill material is to be used in Flood Zone "A" in connection with a permitted building using stem wall construction, I certify that fill will be used only to fill the area within the stem wall. If fill material is to be used in any area, I certify that use of such fill will not adversely affect adjacent properties. If use of fill is found to adversely affect adjacent properties, the owner may be cited for violating the conditions of the building permit issued under the attached permit application, for lots less than one (1) acre which are elevated by fill, an engineered drainage plan is required. If I am the AGENT FOR THE OWNER, I promise in good faith to inform the owner of the permitting conditions set forth in this affidavit prior to commencing construction. I understand that a separate permit may be required for electrical work, plumbing, signs, wells, pools, air conditioning, gas, or other installations not specifically included in the application. A permit issued shall be construed to be a license to proceed with the work and not as authority to violate, cancel, alter, or set aside any provisions of the technical codes, nor shall issuance of a permit prevent the Building Official from thereafter requiring a correction of errors in plans, construction or violations of any codes. Every permit issued shall become invalid unless the work authorized by such permit is commenced within six months of permit issuance, or if work authorized by the permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of six (6) months after the time the work is commenced. An extension may be requested, in writing, from the Building Official for a period not to exceed ninety (90) days and will demonstrate justifiable cause for the extension. If work ceases for ninety (90) consecutive days, the job is considered abandoned. Each section was reinforced with two (2) 3" deep x 20 gauge galvanized steel struts. The door sections were connected together with one (1) 14 gauge galvanized steel end hinge at each end stile and one (1) 14 gauge galvanized steel center hinge at each of the three center stiles as shown on the drawing. Garage door Model No. 1500D manufactured by Amarr Garage Doors was used in the test. The test unit is further described on drawing SBC -580 -019. Witnessed by: Tony East - Amarr Garage Doors Danny Joyner - Amarr Garage Doors Thomas L. Shelmerdine, PE - STRUCTURAL SOLUTIONS, P.A. Manner of Testing: The specimen was tested for static pressure structural performance in substantial conformance with the procedures described in ASTM E330 -90 "Standard Test Method for Structural Performance of Exterior Windows, Curtain Walls, and Doors by Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference". Both positive and negative pressures were tested. The specimen was installed in an enclosure measuring approximately 4' deep, 9' high, and 20' long. The enclosure was framed with shop welded steel angles and covered with 3/4" thick plywood. The door was covered with plastic sheeting to prevent leakage of air pressure. At one end of the enclosure, a "Dwyer" Series 477 Digital manometer was attached to measure pressure inside the enclosure. Two duct fans were attached in series to the enclosure with flexible ducting to provide the positive and negative pressures. STRUCTURAL SOLUTIONS, P.A. Page 2 of 2 Structural Performance by Static Pressure (ASTM E330 & DASMA 108 -99) The specimen was subjected to the following structural loadings and durations. Positive pressure was applied first, and then negative pressure. Test pressures were based on a 15' mean roof height for 110 mph fastest - mile wind speed (130 mph 3- second gust) with 5' in the Edge Strip. Test Procedure Step 1. Preload the door to 50% of the Design Pressure and hold for 10 seconds. Step 2. Unload the door for 1 to 5 minutes. Step 3. Load the door to 100% of the Design Pressure and hold for 33 seconds. Step 4. Unload the door for 1 to 5 minutes. Step 5. Load the door to 150% of the Design Pressure (which equals 100% of the Test Pressure) and hold for 10 seconds. Positive Pressure (Load Applied on Exterior Face of Door) Preload Pressure + 14.8 psf Design Pressure + 29.5 psf Test Pressure + 45.3 psf Negative Pressure (Load Applied on Interior Face of Door) Preload Pressure - 14.8 psf Design Pressure - 29.5 psf Test Pressure - 45.3 psf Observations No failures occurred as a result of the noted loadings. The door remained operable after both tests. ,Summary The 16' x 7' Model 1500D as described on Drawing SBC -580 -019 meets or exceeds the testing criteria as described above. By comparison to the construction of the 16' x 7' Model 1500D, the following doors also meet or exceed the testing criteria, as shown in the attached calculations: - Modq4 of the following widths and heights: 15'-8", 15'-6", 15'-0" , 14'-0", 12'-0" and 1Q;a'Owi -6 " and 8' -0" high. Shelmerdine, PE Comparison of T High Doors versus 6 High Doors The doors used in the tests are 7' high doors. These calculations show that 6' -6" high doors of similar construction are structurally adequate. The difference between the 7' Door and the 6'x6" Door is the size of the sections. The 7' Door has (4) -21" high sections, where the 6'-6" Door has (2) -21" and (2) -18" sections. The size and quantity of struts, stiles, hinges, jamb brackets, and rollers are the same. The design pressures and test pressures for "Components" as defined in the Building Code vary with the surface area of the item under investigation. The larger the area, the lower the pressure. Therefore, the required test pressure for the 6 Door is slightly larger than the 7' Door. The difference is 1 to 2 percent. Let's say it is 5% larger for the 6' -6" Door. Let's compare the actual load on each element of the doors. The tributary height per hinge is 21" for the 7' Door, versus (21 +18)/2 = 19.5" for the 6' -6" Door. Therefore, the load per hinge is 19.5/21 x 105% = 97.5% of the 7' Door. The actual Toad to be resisted by the hinge is less for the 6' -6" Door. This comparison of tributary height also applies to the struts, rollers, jamb brackets and other elements of the doors. CONCLUSION The 6'-6" High Door is structurally adequate as compared to the 7' High Door. -17- . : i*; 4 r, s " f o r lit " 0 + , r„. lit • a e •., J L • STRUCTURAL SOLUTIONS, P.A. The larger the area, the lower the pressure. Therefore, the required test pressures for the 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors are Tess than the tested door. The size of each section in the 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors are identical to or smaller than the sections in the 16'x7' door. Therefore, each section of the 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors are required to resist less Toad than the tested door. Each of the four sections has two reinforcing struts on the 16'x7' door. The 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors have two struts on each of five sections. Therefore there are two more struts on the 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors. The resulting tributary areas per strut on the 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors are equal to or less than the tributary area per strut on the 16'x7' door. Therefore, each strut on the 16'x7' -6" and 16'x8' doors is required to resist Tess Toad. This comparison of tributary area also applies to the rollers, hinges and jamb brackets.
