Ventilation fans are thermostatically controlled to run and cool the sign in high temperature conditions. In cooler temperatures,they do not run, which prolongs the life of the fan. Installation Manual 10 BESTLED TECHNOLOGY INC 3.0 MECHAIVICAL INSTALLATION Installation Manual 11 BESTT,ED TECHNOLOGY INC 3.0 MECHANICAL INSTALLATION 3.1 Overview LED signs must be installed onto a structure designed to withstand wind load, seismic events, weight load of ice in winter time, or any other live load the structure might bear. The:structure must comply with all national and local codes. Because every sign installation is unique,there is no single procedure for mounting LED signs. Sign installers must comply with the following requirements or the sign wan-anty will be void: • Any structure above the sign must either have flashing or extend past the face of the sign. � DO NOT allow water to pool underneath or on top of the sign. • DO NOT allow water from structure above to drip directly onto the sign's door seams. • DO NOT seal the sign in way that restricts hot air from escaping the inside of the sign. • Comply with all sign ventilation and clearance requirements. Refer to"Ventilation requirements"below for details. 3.2 Ventilation requirement Although the steel sign cases are completely enclosed for weather-proofing,the sign does rely on natural convection to cool. The sign uses case steel surface as heat sinks to cool the inside cabinet temperatures. Internal fan(s)mix the air inside the case to bring the internal t.emperature uniform. Signs require obstruction-free space for adequate air venrilation between mounting structure and the top,bottom,and sides of the sign.This is required for all wall,monument,and pole mounted signs.Make sure to provide a minimum clearance of 1—inch above and below the sign, and a minimum clearance of 6—inches behind the sign. Otherwise,ventilation air ducts MiJST be installed evenly spaced around the perimeter of the sign. 3.3 Mounting the sign LED signs are pre-drilled at the back and sides for installing steel angle brackets. Based on how you want to install the LED display, you decide on where and how many steel brackets you want to install.There are several mounting options you can choose,which are illustrated tielow. Note:steel brackets are not provided because mounting method chosen varies greatly from one installation to another.Your sign installer should consult this installation instruction and provide necessary mounting hardware for proper sign installation. Electrical installation must only be attempted by a qualified electrician.Electrical connection must comply with all applicable national and local codes. The electrical installation of signs varies greatly.The following bullet points are requirements. It is the sign instaIler's responsibility to ensure that the installallon complies with all national and local codes. • All power wiring must be from circuit breaker-protected lines. • The sign must be run on its own dedicated circuit to ensure proper operation. • Wire gauge and breakers must be sized or verified in accordance with input power specifications(found on the product label),the National Electric Code, and applicable local codes. Under-sizing the wire gauge or breaker size can lead to interxnittent sign operation or malfunction. • DO NOT connect the sign to a GFI-protected circuit. • All electrical conduit connections must be watertight. • Use minimum 80°C copper wire only. • Separate conduits must be used for signal wires(for example,RS232,RS485)and for power wires. If power and communication wires are put in the same conduit,there is a chance the communication wires might pick up electrical interference from the power wires and thus leading to PGsign communication errors.However,fiber optic wire may be run in the same conduit with power wires. 4.2 Sign earth-grounding Properly grounding each sign is necessary because it is an essential means of preventing shock, shock hazards, and potential fire hazards.A sign bonded to an earth ground has a means of dissipating the high voltage and current from a lightning strike. The resistance of the grounding electrode must be as low as possible. However,damage can still occur to a sign's electronic equipment from lightning voltage transients. Though some surge protection is incorporated into a sign,to protect a sign from high-voltage lighhung transients, surge protectors need to be installed. On some models of outdoor signs,a ground lug is provided at the back of the sign for earth-grounding purpose.
