A 2/12 pitch means that the
minimum roof slope required for all panels is 2 inches of vertical rise per horizontal foot. Butyl sealant
with lap screws is required on aIl side panel laps on roofs with less than a 4/12 pitch to prevent water
from siphoning over the ribs(see Figure 7 on page 6), but is optional on roofs with a 4/12 pitch or
greater. Consult our representative for recammendations for your particular roaf pitch, and about
roofing options if you have less than a 2/12 pitch.
Roofreparation
Oil-cannirxg is a wave-like,rippled agpearance extending up the length of the panel aftez it has
been installed on the roaf. Any irregularities in the raaf, including uneven plywood joints, wazped
plywood, uneven trusses, poox application of underlayment, the use of button caps with felt paper, etc.,
can promote oil-canning. Care shauid betaken to provide a flat, vniform surface on which to attach
the panels. See page 8 for mare details.
Roof Application
Panel installation should begin at the gable end of the raof opposite the prevailing rain-bearing
wind (this will provide added assurance against wind-driven rain being forced under the laps). Measure
ane full panel width in (approx. 38")from the roof edge. At this point chalk a line from ridge to eave
---- --- __------- ---_ _
(avoid geing chaik on parieTs—it maydiscoZor themt}:Place the Ieading edge of the fust panel
along this line.It is extrernely irnportant that this panel be laid sqnare to the eave and ridge so that the
reznaining panels wz1l Iine up square on the raof frame. It is wise ta have a person at the eave and at the
ridge to ensure that the proper panel coverage is being xnaintained across the roof. Also be sure that the
panels are properly side-Iapped (agazn, see fig. on page 6}.
In applications where end-lapping is necessary, the upper panel on the slope should lap over the
panel that is Iawer on tYe slope. Lower raof pitch requires a greater amount of panel averiap. AII end-
lap applications require two ho:rizontal rows (across the panel) of buryl sealant tape and proper fastening
to provide a znaxitnum water seal.
An overhang of 2 to 3 inches is recommended to provide a drip edge, while only 1 inch overhang
is necessary where gutters are used(see p. IS). The open panel ribs at the eave can be sealed with inszde
closures. For maximum.weather-tightness, a row of butyl tape can be applied above and beneath inside
clasures. - - -
Trimming and Cutting Steel Panels
The best device for cutting steei ganels across t7ie pro, file zs eitlier a portable or hand shear, crr a
nibbler. Nibblers, however, and especially Carborundum blades an electric saws, do have a tendency to
eithereave hot metal particles that can burn paint surfaces or Ieave rcist marks on panels andrim. The
sazne is true of any filings left an the roof caused by the applicatian of screws. Care should be taken to
brush al1 such garticles from roof surfaces after application.
To cut panels lengthwise: Note caurefully where the panel is to be cut, and, using a straight-edge,
score deeply dowzi the length of the panel with a sharp-pointed utility knife.Foiding the panel along the
score mark, and bending back again if necessary, should praduce a clean break in the panel.
CAITIUN! clean all metal shavings'and particles off of rpaf to avoid unsightly rust stains

{352) 498-Q778 • T01) Ff"8 {$88 393-4335 • FAX (352) 49$-7852
, _ 3 ^ .
