Panel lengths should fal12 to 3 inches short af the ridge when
a vented rrdge is desired, and should extend 2 to 3 inches past the eave to allow a sufficient drip
edge (except as nated an pg. 3 concerning gutters). The Gulf Caast sales personnel are ready to
assist custamers with information specific ta their particular roof.
SpeciaIly-washered screws applied through the flat of the metal is the most recomrnended
method used to attach roofing panels. 11/z inch screws are the comrnonly recornmended length.
211z inch screws are available for ridge-cap application and ather special needs. For attachment ta
metal purlins, a minimum af#12 x 1"hex head TEK screw or equivalent is recommended, and for
stitching pazels and trim to panels,we recommend#14 x 718"lap TEK self-drilling screws. See
pages 6 and 7 for more infarmation on screw spacing and ordering.
Ordering and Applying Trim
The most common flashing for metal roofing is the i-idge cap, which is used at the peak af a
roof where two oppasing roof slopes join. Uther flashings include transition fCashing, end wttll
and sidewall flashings, and valleys (see diagram on right for application). Eave flashings include
gable flashing and eave drip, bath of which are aften applied abave fuscicx trim. When raaf pztch
exceeds S/l.2 (a 5 inch rise in 12 inches), the slope af the roof should be mentioned when ardering
ridge caps, endwalls, and eave drip. When a steeper roof slape meets a lesser slope, both slapes
shouid be mentianed when ardering transition flaslung.
At the gable edge the use of gable trim adds ta the appearanee af the strzcture and pratects
the fly-rafter, and sidewall flashing is used where the side of a panel butts up against an adjacent
wall. In either case, the installer should be careful to seal between the gable rake or sidewall and
panel with butyl sealant tape, and to fasten the trim every 6" to 12" up the slope of the roof with
the apprapnate screws. If eave drip is used arthe gable, the number af 90 degree eave drip for the
gable should be specified separately from that used on the drip edge when ordering.
To prevent genetration of water, insects, and debris at the ridge, either solid or vented
closure material is inserted between the ridge cap and the top end of the panel (shown on p. 9).
Screws are applied through the ridge cap, closure, and each rib of the panels. 2i12" waod screws or
self-drilling lap screws should be used for attaching ridge caps.
Keep Materials Dry!
Paint and finishes of Gulf Caast panels and trim are designed ta withstand severe rain and
wet weather conditions. Neither paint, galvanized, or Galvalume finishes, however, are designed to
be in cantinuous contact with water for lang periods of time. Damage will result if uninstalled ,
panels or trim ttre attowed to remain wet in starage. Be sare to store zxiaterial that will not be
installed immediately in a dry location. Wet material should be air-dried and re-stacked if
installation is not planned right away.
(352 498-0778 •Toll Free 888 393•Q335 + FAX (352 498-7852
- 5 -
