" -
Mr. William Flemer, '
,
I . .
Reynolds Metals Company
Richmond, Virginia.
f '
At your request we have performed an analysis of he "CANBA,.vK" under a . ,,
wind load of 110 MPH.
• The supporting structure has been analyzed as a space frame using a DEC
computer and finite element analysis program with a mathmatical analysis
of the structure. The skin has been utilized at the corners as a part of
the corner cllumn structure. A printout is included being run first with
the base channel flat IE: W.ak axis horizontal; and 2nd run with the base
channel set In edge and the strong axis horizontal.
Calculations of the stress in the members was made using Specification for
the design oi cold formed steel structural members in light of the thin •
sections used: The channels were analyzed as A-36 steel and checked if they '
werle 50 KSI yield steel. The skin attachment was checked against the code.
I
CONCLUSIONS: The structure as a whole has the structural integrity to withstand -
110 MPH winds' provided that two modifications are made:
lo The corner skim mst be attached to the angles making up '
i ! the co'rner columns at intervals of not over 3".
2. The base channel must be placed on edge or reinforced to
provide additional section modulus in the vertical axis.

It ,s felt that the latter solution would be less costly than the amount of
(
attlachment oi! side pannels necessary for the skin the reinforce the channel as
wel as the question of the skin attachment of the skin on one leg only.

Submitted„for Cobaugh Blanton Associates.
`',.V;:,C'``•'1., -
--. -- .

:R.
