THE PANEL MOUNTED <br />SPD IS TO BE INSTALLED AT THE FEED IN OF THE PANEL, AT THE FIRST BREAKER <br />POSITION, AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE NEUTRAL BAR. <br />THE ORDER OF IMPORTANCE OF CONDUCTOR, PHASE CONDUCTORS, NEUTRAL <br />CONDUCTOR AND GROUND CONDUCTOR. THE PHASE CONDUCTORS ARE ALWAYS TO <br />BE KEPT AS SHORT AS POSSIBLE. IF THE NEUTRAL BAR IS LOCATED AT THE TOP OF <br />THE PANEL ADJACENT TO OR OVER THE LUGS, THE NEUTRAL WIRE MAY BE LONGER <br />THAN THE PHASE WIRES, THE LENGTH OF THE GROUND CONDUCTOR IS OF LEAST <br />IMPORTANCE. IF CONDUCTORS NEED TO BE EXTENDED THEN ONLY HIGH <br />COMPRESSION BUTT JOINT CONNECTORS ARE TO BE USED TO EXTEND THE LENGTH <br />OF ANY SPD CONDUCTOR, WIRE NUTS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. THE PHASE <br />CONDUCTORS ARE TO HAVE A MINIMUM OF ONE TWIST AND PREFERABLY TWO TWISTS <br />BETWEEN THE SPD AND THE BREAKER.
