CAUTION: Use appropriate safety glasses, gloves and other equipment to avoid injury. New Construction or Re -Roofing Determine the location of vents: Evenly space the roof vents along the width of the roof, marking the location of all roof vents before cutting holes. Center the holes between the rafters within 2" from the peak of the roof. Mark a 10" circular outline for the hole on the roof. (Figure 1) Cut and prepare the opening: Cut the :holes in fhe sheathing before applying shingles. Shingle up until the first full course of shingles covers the bottom of the hole. Cut the excess shingles away from the hole. (Figure 2) (For increased weather protection on new construction or re -roofing applications, use an 18"x18"' piece of GAF Weather Watch® or GAF StormGuard* Leak Barrier. Center the leak barrier over the hole. Remove release film., press into place and cut away the leak barrier spanning the hole.) Position the vent and nail the vent into place: The top of the SSR960 has an up-arrow formed into the flashing. Make sure the vent is in proper position. Nail the vent securely into place, spacing the nails every 4" apart around the perimeter. The nails should be V from the edge of the vent flange. Seal all seams and nm heads with an approved sealant, such as silicone, roofing cement, or waterproof caulking. (Figure 3) Complete shingle installation Continue, installing shingles, overlapping the flange on the vent. Cut the slAi4es around the top of the vent to match its shape. Adding an SSB960 to Finished Roofs Determine the location of vents: Inspect the attic to determine the location of rafters and other obstructions. Evenly space the roof vents along the width of the roof, marking the location of all roof vents before cutting holes. Center the holes between the rafters within 7 from. the peak of the roof. Mark a 10" circular outline for the hole on the top of shingles. (Figure 5) Cut and prepare the opening: Using a sharp knife, cut away the shingles (Figure BA). Cut through the sheathing using a reciprocating saw (Figure 68). Carefully remove the roofing nails within -3"of the hole. Cut the shingles at the top of the hole to accommodate the shape of the roof vent. (For increased weather protection on new construction or re -roofing applications, use an 18"x18" piece of GAF Weather Watchl or GAF StormGuar& Leal: Barrier. Center The leak barrier over the hole. Remove release film, press into place and cut away the leak barrier spanning the hole.)
