<br />GENERAL
<br />Before submitting a bid, the Contractor shall visit the site and familiarize himself
<br />with the existing conditions. The Contractor shall make such ac justments m work as
<br />required by the actual conditions and inform the Engineer ofRecord of any discrepancies
<br />between achral conditions and design documents.
<br />Coordination, Conflict and Changes: The Contractor shall coordinate his work with
<br />other trades, particularly in common areas such as mechanical moms, and chases where
<br />multiple trades will be working. In the event ofa coo ic; the Architect shall decide which
<br />equipment shall be relocated regardless of which was installed first: g during this
<br />coordination, it is discovered that necessary or desirable changes should be made, advise
<br />the Engineer and secure his approval in writing. Where- drawings appear to cou ict,
<br />provide the more expensive quality or quantity.
<br />The Contractor shall base his proposal on the materials specified herein and in the
<br />drawings. Reference to a particularptvduct by Manuficturw, trade name, or catalog
<br />number establishes the minimum standard ofmaterial and equipment required for this
<br />installation. It is not intended to exclude products of similar• design and equal quality.
<br />Where two or more standards are listed, the choice shall be by the Contractor. The
<br />Engineer reserves the sole right to decide the equality ofmateriais proposed for use in lieu
<br />of those specified: Permission to substitute shall be obtained prior to bid in accordance
<br />with the Architect's instructions.
<br />Warkk under this item of the Contract shall include providing all labor, material,
<br />equipment; supplies, and services necessary to install a complete and operational electrical
<br />system, both nitaw and exterior, as shown in these plans.
<br />All material shall be UL listed as approved and shall be new
<br />The Contractor shall comply with applicable local htws, the latest edition of the NEC
<br />where not in conflict with those laws, and the rules of the local utility company, Americans
<br />with Disabilities (ADA) Act, latest edition of the building code adopted by the Authority
<br />Having Jurisdiction over this work, NEMA standards, UL standards, ANSI standards, and
<br />the Manufacturer's recommendations regarding their product.
<br />The Contractor shall obtain and pay for all required permits. The Contractor shall
<br />pay all fees associated with the scope of work as outlined in these documrews. Auer
<br />completion of the work, the Contractor shall submit certificate of final inspection and
<br />approval from the local electrical inspector certifying that the installation complies with all
<br />applicable regulations governing same.
<br />The Contractor shall warrant the entire electrical system to be in proper working
<br />order Replace at no additional charge all work and/or material which may develop defects,
<br />excluding ordinary wear and tear and improper handling, for a period of one year from the
<br />date ofaccepmace.
<br />RACEWAYS
<br />Galvanized Rigid Conduit shall be hot -doped galvanized steel inside and outside
<br />including threaded cells. Where field cut and threaded, exposed surface shall be treated
<br />with a galvaniziaglaint. Conduit shall be manuAwtmed by Allied Tube, Wheatland,
<br />Pittsburgh Staorlarrd, Republic, or Triangle.
<br />Galvanized Rigid Coated Conduit shall be coated inside and outside with PVC coating
<br />and be ETL listed.
<br />Intermediiste Metal Conduit shall be hot galvanized steel with a corrosion resistant
<br />coating. Where field cut and breaded, exposed surface shall be treated with a galvanizing
<br />paint Conduit shall be manufactured by Allied Tube, Wheatland, Pittsburgh Steel, Republic,
<br />or Triangle. No Quick connect couplings are allowed
<br />Electrical Metallic Tubing shall be hot galvanized steel with a corrosion resistant
<br />coating. Conduit shall be msnufactu rd by Allied Tube, Wbestlam4 Pittsburgh Steel
<br />Republic, or Triangle. Fittings shall be set screw type fittings. No quick connect
<br />compression figs are allowed
<br />Rigid non metallic conduit (PVC) shall be heavy wall schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride
<br />as manufachred by Carlos. Condectm and fittings shall be by the same manufacturer:
<br />Liquid-tigbt ffe:nble metal conduct shall be type UA with writable fittings as
<br />manufactued by Anaconda.
<br />Flexible metal conduit shall be used for final connection to vibrating machinery and
<br />finer junction box to ligh fixture. Run shall be as short as possible but no more than 72 ".
<br />Flexible metal conduit shall be as manufactured by AFC.
<br />Conduits shall be sized not smaller than as shown or in accordance with Table 1,
<br />Chapter 9 of the NEC, whichever is larger:
<br />Conduits shall be supported and substantially fastened to structural members at
<br />intervals of no more than 8 fret Supports and fasteners shall be of a type approved for the
<br />intended use and appropriate for the application Conduit shall be run concealed in the
<br />structue as mucb as practicable. When conduit must be exposed, the conduit shall be
<br />instilled with rums atfierparallel orperpendicular to structural members, walls, or vertical
<br />intersections. Right angles shall consist of cast metal fittings or symmetrical beads. Co ndurt
<br />shall be kept a minimum of 6" away from flues, hot water pipes, steam pipes, or other heat
<br />producing devices. Conduit which has been pushed or deformed due to improper bending or
<br />nushandim shall not be installed Conduit shall be pit square, threaded, reamed smooth,
<br />and drawn up 40L Conduit shall be securely ftstened to all abeet metal outlets, cabinets,
<br />junction and pull boxes with locknuts and bushings. Provide bushings at each end of the
<br />run. Where spare runs of conduit are mi icated, provide a pull wire in each raceway and cap
<br />each end to prevent the collection of debris. Conduit systems shall be installed complete
<br />prior to pulling conductors. Conduit shall be installed as follows:
<br />Underground - PVC with GRC sweep bends for the vertical turns
<br />Exposed Exterior -GRC, IMC
<br />Exposed Interior - GRC, )MC, EMT (only above 10' AFF )

<br />WIRE AND CABLE
<br />Conductors shall be soli drawn copper conforming to ASTM standards runless
<br />Ahmunum a specifically indicated on the plans. The maaufscture's name, wire size, and
<br />insulation type shall be permanently marked on the conductor jacket at regular intervals in a
<br />legible manner. All conductors; shall be labeled at each termination and in all junction boxes
<br />with cable tags. Conductors shall be as follows:

<br />Jurisdiction.
<br />BOXES
<br />Outlet boxes used in concealed work shall be galvanized or sheradized sheet steel
<br />boxes and be adequately sized to accommodate the devices and conductors to be installed
<br />(minion 1-112" deep ). Boxes dr tbeirplaster rings shallbe mounted Bush with the
<br />finished surface and square with the surfnee. Boxes shall be sized in accordance with
<br />NEC Article 314 and be appropriate for the environment in which installed Ceiling

<br />Sectional type boxes shall not be installed in masonry or concrete walls.

<br />Devices shall be as indicated in the Electrical Legend and as shown on the plans.
<br />Devices manufwan d by Arnow -Hart, Bryan; or Hubbell and listed in NEMA
<br />comparative lists as similar type and quality are approved Finish for devices and cover
<br />plates shall be as specified by the Architect.
<br />The plans slow apprroximate locations for devices only. The Cwhaictor shall
<br />familiarize himself with arrhitoctral and structural details and the rough -in requirements
<br />of the equipment to be installed to determine the device location. Devices shall be
<br />installed at umifurm heights throughout the installation. Devices installed above
<br />countertops shall be installed to avoid eouffict with the backsphusk cabinets, and/or
<br />equipment. The final location of devices shall be verified by the Architect.
<br />Pull boxes shall be installed in long runs of conduit: Pull boxes shall be
<br />galvanized sheet steel construction, sized aeeordilag to NEC Article 314, and installed in
<br />an aoecssible location.
<br />SAFETY SWITCI w
<br />Disconnect sanity switches shall be heavy dirty type 600V or 250V , fused or
<br />non -fused as indicated on the plans with the number ofpoles as indicated on the plans.

<br />The Contactx shall provide mounting frames for switches that can not be securely
<br />fastened to a solid structure. Frames shall consist ofgalvanized stool chi are/ set in
<br />concrete footings. Hardware (ours, bolts, washers, etc) shall be stainless steel.
<br />Switches installed as service entrance disconnects shall be labeled as such and be
<br />provided with all accessories and appurtenances required for a service entrance disconnect
<br />SERVICE
<br />Coordinate with Utility to provide a service as indicated on the plans. Provide all
<br />material and labor not supplied by the Utility in order to produce a complete to and operable
<br />electrical service complying with NEC and Utility Company regulations.
<br />Obtain metering equipment from Utility and install in compliance with Utility
<br />Companyregullstiorts.
<br />Unless Noted Otherwise, the transformer at the Service Entance will be provided
<br />by the Utility.
<br />GROUNDING
<br />The Contractor shall provide complete system and equipment pumidrng systems
<br />Iudbig coadhuctom o�Mm Brood rods, pound buusses, ink all etcfor the service
<br />entrance ground, groumcting ofelech ical equipme4 process egiq= n; building steel, or
<br />other itms indicated on the drawings. The grounding system shall be installed in
<br />accordance with NEC Article 250 and as detailed in the plans.
<br />Undiergnoumd connections and connections to building steel shall be exothermic
<br />weld. Exposed concoctions shall be irreversible crimp type connections.
<br />A green insulated ground conductor as indicated on the plans (nzimimurn size per
<br />NEC Table 250.122 ) shall be metalled in each raceway and with each cable.Isolated
<br />Ground conductors shall be green with yellow dace.
<br />DRY TYPE TRANSFORMERS
<br />Transformers of the size and type covered in UL 506 shall be so listed and labeled,
<br />ie. Transformers 600V up to and inchding 167 kVA single phase and 500 kVA three
<br />phase. Three phase transformers up to 9 kVA shall be Class 180 Insulation System with
<br />80 C Rise. Single Phase transformers and three phase transformers 15 kVA to 500 kVA
<br />shall be Class 220 kwiston System with 115 C rise. Cores shall be designed so dot
<br />maximum fiuur demsitim are substantially below saturation level. The core volume shall
<br />allow efficient operation at 109/9 above the highest tap voltage. All laminators shall be
<br />come pasted or annealed, fire of buns and firmly butted The core laminations must be
<br />tightly clamped and compressed to provide quiet operation. The entire core and coil
<br />assembly must be pedried by hen; napregnsted with silicome varnish, and cured at a
<br />minimum of350 F to reduce hotspots and seal out moisture. Coils must be protected with
<br />an outer layer ofg1m tape or similar insulation. Transformers 15kVA and larger shall
<br />have NEMA standard taps. All tandbimers shall be quiet type. Care and coil assemblies
<br />are to be mounted an rubber vibration isolators designed to specifically reduce 120 He

<br />MOTORS
<br />Motors installed under this section shall be TEFC premium efficiency motors
<br />suitable for duty in the environment in which they are installed
<br />The Contractor shall verify the correct rotation of all motors in the prvjec; whether
<br />installed under this section or another
<br />PANHXOARDS
<br />Paaelboards shall have the number ofphases and wires as indicated on the
<br />panel acbedule. The NEMA enclosure type shall be as noted on the panel schedule.
<br />Pandboards shall have copper buss, 100% rated neutral with set screw connections,
<br />and grand buss with set screw connection The panel box shall not be less than 20
<br />inches wide and be Abritated from galvanized orgalvannea[ed steel. Boxes shall be
<br />constivctad with minimum wire bending and gutter dimensions as required by UL and
<br />NEC. Tire Box shall have a separate UL label. All miencis willbe factory
<br />assembled and braced fora symmetrical fault current as indicated on the panel
<br />schedule C'fmuit breakers shall be replaceable without disdubing adjacent units, and
<br />without drifting or tapping. All circuit breakkerconnections shall be m a hole tapped

<br />cOmpklae installation. The Contractor shall match the voltage of the fixture to the

<br />fixtures installed in fire rated assemblies shall be provided with a UL listed method of
<br />instillidom to maintain the foe rating of the assembly as designated in the Architectural
<br />Plans.
<br />Recessed f xtums installed in the building envelope shall be provided with an
<br />approved method of installation toprevent air migration through the opening or fixture m
<br />accordance with the latest version of the Energy Code.
<br />LABELLING
<br />Provide engraved phenolic labels white 112" high letters on black background for
<br />each pnoelboard>, loadexmter, disconnect switch, service main, etcto identify the
<br />equipment served by the device or equipment
<br />FIRE RATED SEALS
<br />Provide a UL approved fine seal for each and everypenetration of a fire rated
<br />assembly ( wal), ceiling; and/or Door) in order to maintain the fire rating of the assembly
<br />as indicated in the AmIth ectural plans. Do not install devices within 6" of each other
<br />back to back in any fire rated assembly.
<br />TELEPHONE
<br />Contractor shall coordinate with local utility for exact telephone service
