Center the holes <br />between the rafters within ?' from the peak of the roof. Mark a 10" <br />circular outline for the hole on the roof. (Figure 1) <br />Cut and prepare the opening: <br />Cut the holes in the sbeathing before applying shingles_ Shingle up <br />until the first full course of shingles covers the bottom of the hole. <br />Cut the excess shingles away from the hole. (Figure 2) (For <br />increased weather protection on new construction or re -roofing <br />applications, use an 18"xl8" piece of GAF Weather WatchO or <br />GAF StonnGuard• Leak Barrier. Center the leak barrier over the <br />hole. Remove release film, press into place and cut away the leak <br />barrier spanning the hole.) <br />Position the vent and nail the vent into place: <br />The top of the SSB960 has an up-arrow formed into the flashing. <br />Make sure the vent is in proper position. Nail the vent securely into <br />place, spacing the nails every 4" apart around the perimeter. The <br />nails should be I"from the edge of the vent flange. Seal all seams <br />and nail heads with an approved sealant, such as silicone, roofing <br />cement, or waterproof caulking. Mark a 10" circular oudim for the hole on the top of shingles <br />(Figure 5) <br />Cut and prepare the opening: <br />Using a sharp knife, cut away the shingles (Figure 6A). Cent through <br />the sheathing using a reciprocating saw (Figure 68).. Carefully <br />remove the roofing nails within 3"of the hole. Cut the shingles, at the <br />top of the hole to accommodate the shape of the roof vent (Far <br />increased weather protection on new construction or re-rooi'trtg <br />applications, use an 18"xl8" piece of GAF Weather Watch* or <br />GAF StorruGuard® Leak Barrier. Center the leak barrier over the <br />hole. Remove release'fRm. press into place and cut away the leak <br />barrierspanningthe hole.) <br />Position the vent: <br />Apply a generous amount of silicone, roofing cement, or water- <br />proof caulking to the perimeter of the hole.. (Figure 7A). Slide the <br />vent into place beneath the shingles, ensuring that the thioat.of the <br />vent is centered on the hole (Figure 7B). The shingles should <br />overlap the top half of the vent flange. The bottom half of the <br />vent's flange will be exposed on top of the shingles. <br />Nail the vent into place: <br />Nail the vent into place, spacing the nails every 4" around the <br />perimeter of the vent. The nails should be 1 "in from the edge of <br />the vent flange. Replace nails in the shingles as necessary to ensure <br />a proper seal. Use silicone, roofing cement, or waterproof caulking <br />to seal any exposed nails.
