Lumber: Any commercial softwood species, #2 or
better grade, surfaced four sides.
C. Form Sealers: Nonstaining mineral oils, first quality
of their respective kinds and manufactured
specifically for this purpose.
D. Ties do Spreaders: Standard metal snap ties with one inch
break back.
1.02 EXECUTION:
A. Forms shall conform to shapes, lines and dimensions as
indicated on Drawings, properly braced and secured to
maintain position and shall be sufficiently tight to prevent
leakage of grout. Bulging or "pillowing" of surface will
not be allowed.
B. Use plywood or metal exclusively to form exposed concrete.
Side forms for footings may be omitted provided concrete is
placed against firm, evenly cut earth, without cave-ins.
Forms may be reused provided they do not impart less structural
stability and no less acceptable appearance to finish concrete.
C. Set all required steel frames, angles and sleeves, bolts,
inserts and anchors accurately and secured into position
before concrete is placed.
D. Remove forms in such a manner as to ensure the complete
safety of the structure. DO not remove supporting forms or
shoring until members have acquired strength to support
their weight and imposed loads safely.
2.00 REINFORCEMENT:
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Bars: Sizes as shown on drawings
B. Wire Fabric: Sidewalks: 6 x 6 - W1.4 x W1.4 (6x6:10/10)
Interior Slab: 6 x 6 - W1.4 x W1.4 (6x6:10/10)
Paving: See Section 0203 Paving
C. Accessories: 1. As recommended in ACI 315 Manual of
Standard Practice for Detailing Concrete
Structures or the CRSI "Manual of
Standard Practice" unless otherwise
indicated on the Drawings.
2. Use noncorrosive accessories in concrete
work exposed in weather and areas
receiving paint or left exposed.
D. Fibermesh: Nurlon synthetic crack control fibers
E. Place reinforcing steel in accordance with referenced standards
adequately secured in position by proper accessories and ties.
F. Lap oil steel 40 bar diameter with 18" minimum at splices.
SECTION 0301 CONCRETE (CONT.)
3.00 CONCRETE
3.01 MATERIALS
A. Portland Cement:
C. Water:
D. Admixtures:
E. Expansion Joint Materials
ASTM C150 Type I or Type II
(refer to soil report).
2. Maximum size of coarse
aggregate shall not
exceed 1/5 the narrowest
dimension between forms;
the 1/3 the thickness of
unreinforced slabs; or
3/4" minimum clear spacing
between reinforcing bars.
3. Absorption of coarse
aggregate shall not
exceed five percent.
Potable, for local utility
domestic supply.
Add only with WRITTEN APPROVAL
of the Architect and provided
they meet the following
specifications:
1. Calcium Chloride - ASTM
D98.
2. Air Entraining Admixtures
- ASTM C260.
3. Fly Ash Pozzolons - ASTM
C618.
1. Construction Joints:
Metal or wood keyway form with
provisions for extending rein
forcing thru joint and approved
by the Architect.
2. Expansion Joint Filler:
Asphalt impregnated cellular
fiberboard conforming to ASTM
D1751.
F. Vapor Barrier:
Clear 6 mil polyethylene film
(If required by
recommended for below grade
Soils report)
use.
G. Granular Fill
Washed fill sand free from
organic and deleterious matter,
graded 100% passing #4 sieve and
3% maximum passing #300 sieve.
See Soils Report for alternative
fill material allowed. 4 inch
minimum fill required under slab
or as called for in soils report.
3.02 MIX DESIGN CRITERIA:
A. All concrete shall be ready
mixed in accordance with ASTM
C94, unless specifically approved
by the Architect.
B. Concrete exposed to weather
shall contain 4 to 6% air
entrained by volume.
SLUMP
SLUMP
LOCATION
CLASS
MAXIMUM
MINIMUM
Reinforced Foundation
Walls and Footings
3,000 lbs.
4"
2"
Reinforced Slabs,
Beams and Walls
3,000 lbs.
5"
2"
Exterior Walks &
Columns
3,000 lbs.
5"
2"
Paving
4,000 lbs.
4"
2"
Slabs on ground
3,000 lbs.
4"
2"
All other locations
3,000 lbs.
4"
2"
TABLE II - CEMENT MIX - NON -AIR
ENTRAINED
CEMENT
Specified Compressive
WATER
Minimum Bags Per
Strength at 28 days
GALS/BAG
Cubic Yard
2,500 PSI
7.25
5.0
3,000 PSI
6.50
5.5
4,000 PSI
5.50
6.0
3.03 JOINTS:
A. Install control joints at approximately 30 ft. 0 in. o.c. each
way, in building slab on grade, or as indicated on the drawings
or as called for in the soils report which ever is the
most stringent.
B. Install construction joints where concrete stops at the end of
the day, where concreting is interrupted for a length of time
to allow initial set of concrete, and where indicated either on
drawings or called for in the soils report which ever is the
more stringent.
3.04 PLACING CONCRETE:
A. Do not place foundations or slabs on loose materials. Over
excavated areas under footings and foundations shall be
replaced with minimum of 2,000 PSI concrete. Over excavated
areas under slabs shall be replaced with compacted fill.
B. Place granulated fill uniformly and tamped firmly in place.
C. Convey concrete from mixer to place of final deposit by methods
that will prevent contamination, separation excess drying and
loss of materials.
D. Place concrete in accordance with referenced codes and
standards. Place concrete consistently and continuously until
panel or section is complete. Do not pour a greater area at
one time than can be properly finished.
E. Do not use retempered concrete. Remove items used to
facilitate placing concrete unless such items are designed or
specified to remain. Do not ads water to ready -nixed concrete
at job site unless specifically approved by Architect.
F. Maintain temperature of cost -in -place concrete at not less than
50 degrees I. or more than 90 degrees F. for a period
sufficient to ensure proper hydration and curing.
G.
