3.0 DESCRIPTION
Kaycan PVC Siding is horizontal and vertical lap siding and
soffits manufactured from rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
conforming to the requirements of ASTM D 3679. The siding
is used as an exterior wall covering over solid sheathing and
a a soffit. The siding has a plain- or woDd-grain texture and Is
available in various colors with matching trim, comers, and
starter strips. The panels are a minimum of 0.040 inch (1 mm)
th ick. Lengths range from 10 to 12.5 feet (3048 to 38 10 mm),
Panel are formed with an upper edge having nail slots and a
I ower:dge that hooks into the upper edge ofthe lower course.
The siding is produced in different profiles as described in
Table 1 of this report.
4.0 INSTALLATION
4.1 General:
I astallation of the siding, including the panels, comers, starter
strips, trim and other accessory items, shall be In accordance
with the manufacturer's published installation Instructions, the
applicable code and this report. In the event of a conflict
between the manufacturees published installation instructions
and this report, this report shall govern. A copy of the
manuffacturer's published installation instructions shall be on
the jobsite at all times during installation.
Solid sheathing and a water -resistive barrier shall be
provided behind the siding. as required by the applicable
code.
The allowable wind loads are as noted in the prescriptive
requirements of the applicable code. Sea Section 4.2 for
applications in excess of the prescriptive requirements or
where the applicable code does not provide prescriptive
requirements.
4.2 Wind Resistace:
Design wind pressures must be determined In accordance
with Chapter 16 of the IBC, SBC, UBC or BNBC or Section
301.2.1.1 ofthe IRC. In areaswhere the basic wind speed (3-
second gust do not exceed 100 mph (46 mill [80 miles per
hour (36 m/s) (fastest mile) under the UBC], and the building
height is less than or equal to 40 feet (12 192 mm) in
Exposure C areas, installation must comply with the
prescriptive requirements of IBC Section 1405.13, BNSC
Section 1406.3.3, SEC Section 1403.9 or UBC Section 1405,
as applicable.
In jurisdictions enforcing the IRC. installation much comply
with the prescriptive requirements of IRC Section R703.4 for
areaswhere the basicwind speed (3-second gust) is lessthan
110 mph (49 nits) in Exposure B, and does not exceed 90
mph (40 irds) in Exposure C or 85 mph (37 rnirs) in Exposure
D. For applications in excess ofthe prescriptive requirements,
the design must be in accordance with IRC Section
R301.2.1.1.
For applications in excess of the prescriptive requirements,
the Kaycan PVC Siding has an allowable negative wind load
of 70 psf (3352 Pa) [44 psf (2107 Pa) uoder the UBC] when
attached to a code -complying, minimum 'I. -inch -thick (10
mm), structural -rated OSB sheathing. The siding shall be
attached with 111,-inch-long (38 mm), 'le -inch -diameter -head
(10 mm),'/ii-inch-cliameter-shank (3 mm), corrosion-resistarl
roofing nails spaced 6 inches (152 mm) on center. The
Installing soffit and fascia
Installing fascia
1 . Install an undersill trim at the top of the fascia board.
2. Measure distance torn the bottom of the F-channel to the top of the undersill trim,
and then subtract 114' for clearance. Cut panel to width.
3. Perforate the cut edge using snap -lock punch approximately every 8', ensuring the
'tabs' face outward.
4. Hook the leg of the fascia panel over the F-channel, and snap the tabs into the
undersill trim. If soffit is not being installed, hook the fascia directly over the
fascia board.
An alternative to snap -lock punch attachment is to slide the top of it* fascia behind
metal drip -edge.
Overlapping fascia
1. Overlap fascia by cutting the bottom edge of the underlaying panel, leaving
a 11/2" tab to be inserted into overlapping panel.
2. Overlap 3/4" (halfthe distance of the notch).
Capping fascia
To make corner caps, cut a piece of vinyt fasda that is 5 112" long.
1. Mark the vertical centerline on the back of the piece.
2. Cut a 90' section of the bottom flange from the center, leaving a
45* angle on either side.
3. Use a hand saamer or metal straightedge to fold fascia piece
to
along vertical centerline make a right-angled corner,
'Cat,
4. Using a snap -lock punch, make
labs just below the top edge of the
comer cap, making sure that tabs i'\J 1,
face outward. Install comer cap by
locking the bottom over the existing
F-channel and snapping the top
edge into the undersill trim.
