Examples include, but are not limited to, cutting, welding, grinding, brazing, <br />soldering (to include copper plurnbing), thawing pipes and torch applied roofing. <br />This procedure provides the necessary guidelines tvsafely perform welding, cutting and any other hot works i:order tomaintain safe vvo,k' <br />ingconditionsandpro,ecttheheahhofou,aoociatcsandmstomero.w/ithm|sinmind'a!|operahonswi||imp|ementandmon|torthefol- <br />lowing Welding/Hot Works Procedures specified by OSHA 29 CFR 1910,252 and NFPA regulations. <br />Facility Management Responsibilities <br />v �����oK=�� o~:��K���8���K������~ o«K�����������w��x�~�es <br />it is the responsibility offacility management to pet t,m the following: <br />* Notify contractors perfonnin�^HmvVo,k^oftheir nesponghi!�csand n,omde�emwith acopy o(this poUcyincluding the per <br />° identify all potential hazards (flammable materials, wall material, roof materials, chemicals, packaging, material storage, etc.) with <br />the contractor before work begins. <br />m Donot allow the contractor toturn off automatic sprinklers without notifying Alarm Central at479-Z7s-46OU. <br />0 Verify that the contractor understands the Hot Works pmQrambefore completing the necessary portions ofthe Hot Work Permit <br />and signing the Contractors Letter ofCommitment. <br />• Visually inspect the area at random times while work is being conducted and after the work is completed to verify procedures are <br />being following and nohazards are present. <br />w Make a f inal inspection of: the area, complete the permit and have the Safety Team Leader keep the closed permit in their Safety <br />binder. Refer toAppendix | for the Hot Works Permit. <br />mthe event ofafire, refer totheCodenedtabmthesme,gencvpmceduresF|iprhart. <br />Contractor <br />� � � Responsibilities <br />,�����=�����~��� vn&�����������Uu��u�=Ues <br />Contractor must notify asalaried member ofmanagement of' their intent toperform hot work and torequest aHot Work Permit. They must <br />follow the procedures outlined |nthis program: <br />• The contractor (i,e,welder) arid the fire watch, Someone that isassigned the duty oomonitor the work area for smoke, fire orhvz- <br />ands,mvstchecktheareak,rflammaWeconditions. All flammah|e`including power equipment, should hemoved 5Ofeet from the <br />hot work site. if merchandise cannot be moved, then a certified non-combustible or flame retardant cover must b .0. used to protect <br />the items. mon'connbust|b|eo,flame retardant covers should be used where. necessary to cover equipment, and to cover openings <br />mthe walls and floors. <br />• 'The contractor will provide afully charged, zO|b. type ABC fire extinguisher.'The extinguisher shall be at hand and available for the <br />fire watch atall times. <br />^ A fire watch, inaddition tothe person doing hot work will bepresent atall t|mes,/fneeded, provide the fire watch afacility's two- <br />way radio tocommunicate with management. <br />• If work is interrupted because of breaks, lunches, rneetings, etc., the contractor is tucontact amember ofmanagement who will <br />inspect the area prior to the person doing hot work or fire watch leaving. The fire watch or a member of management must stay <br />and monitor the area for 30minutes. <br />w If the permit expires before the work is completed a new Hot Work Perrnit must be issued before work can continue. Expiration <br />times should be calculated as realistically as possible to the actual completion time of the work. <br />• When the work is completed, the person doing hot work will enter the time of completion on the Hot Work Permit and will return it <br />to facility management.
