City, State and Federal. laws in regard to <br />social. security, workman's compensation, lien l.aws, etc., where appl.icabl.e. <br />8. That the owner sbal.J. compl.y with al.l the s~ety codes issued by the Florida <br />Industrial. Commission. <br />9. State l.aw requires construction to be done by l.icensed contractors. You have <br />appl.ied for a pexmi t under an exemption to that l.aw. The exemption al.lows <br />you, as the owner of your property, to act as your own contractor with certain <br />restrictions even though you do not have a l.icenae. You must provide direct <br />onsi te supervision of the construction yoursel.f. You may buil.d or improve a <br />one-famil.y or two-famil.y residence or a fa.:.cm outbuil.diDg. You may al.so buil.d <br />or improve a cCllllllllerCial. buil.ding, provided your costs do not exceed $25,000. <br />The buil.diDg or residence must be for your own use or occupancy. :It may not <br />be buil.t or substantial.l.y improved for sal.e or l.eaae. If you sal.l. or lease a <br />- buil.ding you have buil. t or substantial.l.y improved yoursel.f wi thin J. year after <br />the construction is compl.ete, the law wil.l. presume that you buil.t or <br />substantial.l.y improved if for sal.e or l.ease, which is a viol.ation of this <br />exemption. You may not hire an UDJ.icensed person to act as your contractor or <br />to supervise peapl.e working on your buil.ding. It is your responsibil.i ty to <br />make sure that people empl.oyed by you have licenses required by state law and <br />by county or municipal. licensing ordiuances. You may not del.egate the <br />responsibility for supervis:lD.g work to a licensed contractor who is not <br />l.icensed to perform the work being done.
