717 846 - 3747 Fax 717- 846 -0355
HR Engineering, Inc.
1418 E. Market St., Suite B
York, PA 17403
14 March 2007
Bill Van Laarhovun
Metal Structures
7329 Land 0 Lakes Boulevard
Land 0 Lakes, FL 34639
RE: Fabral GrandBeam Metal Roofing
Dear Mr. Van Laarhovun;
At the request of Fabral, I am writing this letter concerning the installation of their
GrandBeam metal roofing panels on buildings located in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Fabral installation instructions require that GrandBeam be installed on a minimum slope
of 3" to 12 ". The roof slope of all buildings using GrandBeam must comply with this
minimum requirement.
Recently, in accordance with 2006 Supplement to the 2004 Florida Building Code
Section 1504.3.2, testing was performed to UL 580 on the GrandBeam at Architectural
Testing, Inc. This is ATI project 70328.01- 109 -44, and their test report bears that
number. The specimen consisted of 26 gage steel panels installed with Fabral's standard
fasteners and in accordance with their "Design Manual" on supports spaced at 4 feet.
The roofing achieved a UL rating of Class 90 and enhanced value 135.0 psf uplift. Using
the usual factor of safety equal to 2.0 for roofing, the GrandBeam achieved an allowable
design wind load rating of +/ -67.5 psf.
Utilizing 2006 Supplement to the 2004 FBC Figure 1609, the maximum basic wind speed
for Palm Beach County will be 140 mph, and Table 1609.6.2.1(2) requires a maximum
wind pressure uplift of 56.2 psf for roof zones 1 and 2, with a maximum uplift pressure of
83.1 psf for roof zone 3 (near Corners). From the above, the standard GrandBeam
installation, with supports spaced at 4 feet, is adequate for roofs in zones 1 and 2. For
zone 3, the support spacing must be a maximum of 2 feet. I trust that this adequately
covers the installation of GrandBeam. If there are any questions, or if anything additional
is required, please advise me.
Sincerely yours;
Allen N. Reeves, PE
Florida License No. 19354
f /"1ARcN 2 oe7
ANR:anr
Cc: 07030008 -2 file & Fabral
