The exemption allows you, as the owrier of your property, to act as your own contractor with certaia restrictions even though you do not have a liceuse. You must_provide direct onsite supervision of the coastructi.on yovrself. You may build or improve a one-family or two-family residence or a farm outbuilding. You may also build or improve a commercial building, provided yovs ccsts do aot exceed $25,OOD. The building or resideace must be for yovr own use or oceupancy. Zt may not be built or substantially improved for sale or lease. If you sell or lease a building you have built or su]�staritially impreved yourself within 1 year after tlie constructicn is complete, the 1a�v w:ill prest�e • that you .built or substantially improved•if for sale or laase, which is a violation of this eaemption. You may not hire an valic�sssd person to act as yovr coatsactor or to supervise people working on yovr building. It is your r�sponsi.bility to make sure that people employed by you have licenses rec� by state law and by county or muiiicipal licensing ordina.nces. You may not delegate the responsibility for supexvising work to a liceased contractor whc is not. licensed to perform the �vark beiag dnae. Aay p�rsoa working on your building who is aot licensed must work under your direct supesvision and must be P� ployed by you, which means that you must deduct F.I.C.A. and withholding tax and provide workers' compeusation for that employae, a11 as prescribed by law.
