STP 15 - PRE'ARING THE COVE:
Using neutcal alkalinity sifted earth or fine sand without pebbles, build a 2" base over the entire pool azea to .
protect the liner. Make sure that the straps and the pressure plates are covered e;ntirely. If the base does not fully
cover the metal conaponents, they will show tlzraugh aad w2ll damage the liner. If using vermiculite or foam base,
you must have at least two inches of soil or sand on top of the straps and pressure plaes. Vermiculite alone will
not properly cover these metal components, possibly allowing damage to the liner. Do not use any substance with
high alkaline or acid content, such as peat moss. It will cause the pool to corrode.
Fig. 50
Next, using sifed earth or fine sand, build a 6" to 8" pool cove inside T
the meal wall along the entire circumference. The cove will prevent the
liner from creeping under the wall and will also protect the liner from w W
any metat corners of the pool framework. THIS STEP IS NOT '
OPTTONAL — IT MUST BE DONE! Since eaith containing chemicals r r-"F' -'
can ca.use discolaration or corrosion, it is suggested that you place . y; 8 ,.
polyethylene plastic sheeting under the cove atou e perimeter of the ' x
wall, so no earth comes in contact with the metal. Since the presence of ' : `. - ,,
such checnicals is beyond ie control of the manufactiuer, such daniage '
is not covered by t11e wananty. The plastic sheeting will not prevent a
: ,-•.
washout in the event that your liner is dawaged. The plastic is only to s
protect the metal framework of the pool from corrosion
After te cove and base are m place, rake and tamp the entire pool azea.
Make sure that no sand remains m the wall above the cove. This could
cause pinholes in your liner. Fig. 51
"P 1.6 — CURVED END UPRIGHT ASSEMBLY: Top Plate
It is easiest to line up all of the uprights next to each other. ,
It helps to lean them up against a fence or some other sturdy " '
objec. On most models, the top of the upright can be determin '°
by either an extra hole in the center, or an extra hole on each side
(depending on wluch model pool you have} for the decorator caps.
Place the metal top plate on the upright making sure fihat the holes P '
line up and the hooked part of the plate is facing the open side of screw of
the upright Now screw only the center hole using a#14 x'/2' top plate in
screw. Do not screw the two side holes until later. This will
make things easier and more efficient down the line.
Upright
Now is the time to install the fence post holders onto the
uprights if you have a fence for the pool. Please see separate fence
instructions for details on doing this.
Insta.11 uprights on curved ends, refer to the appropriate step below for your particular pool.
Fig. 5:
TYPE #1 - BTTOM PLATE POOLS:
• Models wi metal ar resin bottom plates will require one, two, or three pRght
#10 x'/' screws for each upight, depeding on which ►aiel you have.
• The top plabes can reanain unsered for now, btrt ey should be
tetnprarily clipped ove.r the wall to pevent them fi+om falling backwazd- #i 0 Screw #10 Screw
• If yor pool has an additianal resin "boot" for the bottom of the upright,
secune them to tbe uprights at this point using two more #10 x'/z" screws.
• Check cxaved ends of te pool fo rawnds again, making sure tt the
stakes have not been moved and your pool is still a true oval shape. gottom Plate
