GENERAL NOTES
1. All wires at Control Panel must be tagged and marked in order for SimplexGrinnell
Technical Representatives to make final connections.
2. All wires and shields to be free of shorts and grounds.
3. A MINIMUM of 3/4' conduit shall be used. All conduit should be sized per NFPA 70
(NEC). The following conditions shall be maintained:
a) EMT in ceiling spaces.
b) Rigid conduit or PVC in slabs with rigid elbows.
If Flex conduit is used, the following applies:
a) Flex conduit runs shall NOT exceed 72 ".
b) Only Metal Flex shall be used.
C This drawing depicts general locations of Life Safety equipment & field devices. Exact
routing of conduits to be determined in the field by the Installing Contractor to suit
conditions. All changes shall be clearly indicated on the record drawings.
NFPA 72 2007 (Section 10.6.1.1).
5. Device locations and quantities must be confirmed with approved Fire Alarm shop
drowing submittals. Any discrepancies which exist between the approved shop drawings
and the contract documents shall remain the responsibility of the Installing Contractor.
6. Should any conditions exist that differ from what is indicated on these drawings
which cause major deviations in the work shown, the Contractor shall contact
SimplexGrinnell Engineers in a timely manner so as not to impair the construction
schedule.
7. The Contractor is responsible for making and obtaining approval for all necessary
adjustments in circuiting as required to accommodate the relocation of equipment
and /or devices which are affected by any authorized change. All changes shall be
clearly indicated on the record drawings. NFPA 72 2007 (Section 10.6.1.1).
8. Wiring and mounting of Fire Alarm devices may NOT begin until a Fire Alarm Permit
has been issued by the Authority Having Jurisdiction, by order of the Fire Marshal.
9. NFPA 72, Audible/Visual and Visual only devices shall be mounted with the entire lens
between 80' and 96' above the finished floor (NFPA 72 2007 Section 7.5.4). Refer
to equipment data sheets for exact backbox mounting heights. If ADA applies, Strobes
shall be mounted at 80" to the bottom of the Strobe lens (ADAAG Section 4.28.3 (6)
10. Manual Pull Station shall be not less than 3 1/2 ft (1.1 M) and not more than
4, 1/2 ft (1.37 M) from operable part of device to finished floor level and within
5 ft of doorway opening, per NFPA 72 2007 (Section 5.13.4 and 5.13.6).
11. Provide dedicated 120vac circuits to the Fire Alarm Control Panel and NAC Panels.
Lobel dedicated circuit "Fire Alarm System" and place lock out on circuit at the
Electrical Panel. NFPA 72 2007 (Section 4.4.1.4).
12. Existing conduits may be used by Installation Contractor as deemed necessary.
However, any existing conduit will be used only if conduits meet current standards
and codes. SimplexGrinnell makes NO statements written or verbal as to the condition
of the existing conduit.
13. Installing Contractor to verify audibility level of the Audible devices and field adjust
to ensure audibility is in compliance with NFPA 72 2007 (Section A.7.4.2) min.
14. DO NOT install Smoke Detector heads until all major construction and cleaning is
complete. Cleaning of detector heads contaminated by construction duct will be
billable.
