You must provide direct onsite supervisioa of the constxzsction yourself. You may build or improve a one-family or two-family resideace or a farm outbuilding. You may also build or improve a commercial building, provided your costs do aot exceed $25,000. The building or residence must be for yovr own use or ocCllpancy. 2t may not be bui.lt or substantially i.mproved for sale or lease. If you sell or lease a bvilding you have built or substantially improved yourself within 1 year after the construction is complete, the law wi.11 presume •that you .built or substantialZy improved �if for sale or lease, which is a violation of this (�.][emption. You may nvt hire an ualicensed person to act as your contractor or to supE+svise people working on your buildiag. It is your responsibility to make sure that people P.�ployed by you hane licenses rern,;red by state law and by county or municipal licensing ordiaances. You may not delegate the responsibility for supesvising work to a licensed contractor who is not licensed to perform tlze work being done. Axiy person working on your building who is not licensed must work uniier your direct supervision and must be P�Ployed by you, which means that you must deduct F.I.C.A. and wit�holding tax and provide workers' compensation for that employee, a11 as prescribed by law.
