CHAPTER 61 G15-32 REQUIREMENTS - FIRE SPRINKLER 7 <br />THE FOLLOWING IS AN OUTLINE OF THE MINIMUM DESIGN PARAMETERS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DESIGN OF THE WATER -BASED FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM ON THIS PROJECT. <br />THE OUTLINE OF THESE PARAMETERS FOLLOWS THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AS PROVIDED IN THE FLORIDA ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, CHAPTER 61G15-32. <br />61 G15-32.003 COMMON REQUIREMENTS TO ALL FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM ENGINEERING DOCUMENTS <br />32.003(1) THIS FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEERING DOCUMENT PROVIDES THE ENGINEERING REQUIREMENTS TO BE USED IN THE PREPARATION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION <br />SYSTEM LAYOUT DOCUMENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING SYSTEMS: <br />a. WET -PIPE FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM INSTALLATION. <br />32.003(2) THE ACCEPTANCE TESTING OF THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM AND COMPONENTS SHALL BE PERFORMED BY THE INSTALLING CONTRACTOR IN ACCORDANCE <br />WITH THE REQUIREMENTS SET FORTH IN NFPA 13, 2016 EDITION, CHAPTERS 10 AND 25. THE APPROPRIATE CONTRACTOR'S MATERIAL AND TEST <br />CERTIFICATE(S) SHALL BE COMPLETED AND SIGNED: <br />NFPA 13, 2016 EDITION, SECTION 25.1(3) & FIGURE 25.1, "CONTRACTOR'S MATERIAL AND TEST CERTIFICATE FOR ABOVEGROUND PIPING" <br />NFPA 13, 2016 EDITION, SECTION 10.10.1(3) & FIGURE 10.10.1, "CONTRACTOR'S MATERIAL AND TEST CERTIFICATE FOR UNDERGROUND PIPING" <br />SEE THE REQUIREMENTS LABELED "FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM TESTING REQUIREMENTS" ON THIS SHEET FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS CONCERTING HYDROSTATIC <br />PRESSURE TESTS. <br />32.003(3) SEE 32.004(2)(C) AND 32.004(2)(D) FOR OCCUPANCY DESIGN CRITERIA. <br />32.003(4) SEE 32.004(2)(B) FOR APPLICABLE STANDARDS. <br />32.003(5) THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR THIS PROJECT MAY CONTRIBUTE 3 POUNDS PER SQUARE FOOT TO THE DEAD LOAD OF THIS BUILDING'S STRUCTURAL <br />SUPPORT SYSTEM. IT IS THE CONTENTION OF THE ENGINEER OF RECORD FOR THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM THAT THE BUILDING WILL ADEQUATELY <br />SUPPORT THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM. THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED WITH THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEER. <br />61 G15-32.004 DESIGN OF WATER -BASED FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS. <br />32.004(4)(A) THE POINT -OF -SERVICE FOR THIS BUILDING'S FIRE PROTECTION WATER SUPPLY, AS DEFINED BY 633.021(18) F.S., IS EXISTING AND SHALL REMAIN <br />AS -IS. THE PROTECTION CRITERIA SPECIFIED <br />ALLOWS FOR MISCELLANEOUS STORAGE OF CLASS IV COMMODITIES UP TO 12'-0' ON RACKS, PER NFPA 13 TABLE 13.2.1. A 500 GPM HOSE ALLOWANCE <br />SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS. A REDUCTION OF THE DESIGN AREA OF 25%, BUT NOT LESS THAN 2000 SQ.FT. THIS SITE PLAN IS TO BE USED FOR HYDRAULIC <br />REFERENCE ONLY. <br />32.004(4)(G) VALVES AND ALARMS SPECIFIC TO THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM USED ON THIS PROJECT SHALL BE U.L. LISTED & FM APPROVED FOR FIRE PROTECTION <br />SERVICE. ALL VALVES CONTROLLING CONNECTIONS TO WATER SUPPLIES AND TO SUPPLY PIPES TO SPRINKLERS, INCLUDING BACKFLOW PREVENTION <br />ASSEMBLIES, SHALL BE LISTED INDICATING VALVES AND PROVIDED WITH TAMPER AND/OR FLOW SWITCHES WITH CONNECTIONS TO LOCAL AUDIBLE ALARMS <br />AND OFF SITE MONITORING. <br />32.004(4)(H) IN ACCORDANCE WITH DISCUSSIONS WITH THE LOCAL WATER PURVEYOR AND FIRE MARSHAL, AND FAMILIARITY WITH CONDITIONS IN THE AREA, MICROBIAL <br />INDUCED CORROSION (MIC) IS NOT KNOWN TO BE PRESENT IN THE WATER SUPPLY. <br />32.004(4)(1) BACKFLOW PREVENTION REQUIREMENTS (AS APPLICABLE), INCLUDING ANTICIPATED PRESSURE LOSS, ARE INDICATED ON THE FIRE PROTECTION SITE PLAN. <br />32.004(4)(J) ALL YARD AND INTERIOR FIRE PROTECTION COMPONENTS SHALL BE U.L. LISTED & FM APPROVED FOR FIRE PROTECTION SERVICE AND/OR STATED <br />PURPOSE. <br />32.004(4)(K) THE LOCAL MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY CAPABILITY HAS BEEN REVIEWED BY THE ENGINEER. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED A FIRE PUMP WILL NOT BE <br />REQUIRED ON THIS PROJECT. <br />32.004(4)(L) THE LOCAL MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY CAPABILITY HAS BEEN REVIEWED BY THE ENGINEER. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED A FIRE WATER STORAGE TANK <br />WILL NOT BE REQUIRED ON THIS PROJECT. <br />32.004(4)(M) THE PROJECT HAS AREAS OF RACK STORAGE OF CLASS IV COMMODITIES UP TO 12'-0". SEE THE DESIGN CRITERIA ABOVE FOR RACK STORAGE <br />PROTECTION CRITERIA AND REQUIREMENTS. <br />MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS <br />MATERIALS MAY BE FOREIGN OR DOMESTIC PRODUCTS MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA 13. <br />THE FOLLOWING PIPE AND MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS APPLY FOR WET -PIPE SYSTEMS ON THIS PROJECT: <br />I. FIRE SPRINKLER PIPING REQUIREMENTS: <br />A. ALL INTERIOR GROOVED/WELDED PIPING 1'%" AND LARGER SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF SCHEDULE 10 BLACK STEEL. <br />S. ALL INTERIOR THREADED PIPING SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF SCHEDULE 40 BLACK STEEL. <br />C. ALL EXTERIOR PIPING (INCLUDING NIPPLES OR SPOOL PIECES EXTENDING THROUGH EXTERIOR WALLS) SHALL BE <br />GALVANIZED SCHEDULE 40. <br />II. FITTING REQUIREMENTS: <br />A. ALL INTERIOR GROOVED FITTINGS SHALL COME WITH THE FACTORY APPLIED PAINTED COATING AND SHALL BE UL/FM <br />APPROVED FOR FIRE PROTECTION SERVICE. <br />B. ALL INTERIOR THREADED FITTINGS SHALL BE CAST IRON, DUCTILE IRON, OR MALLEABLE IRON. <br />C. ALL EXTERIOR FITTINGS SHALL BE GALVANIZED. <br />III. DEVICES: <br />A. AT A MINIMUM DEVICES USED FOR FIRE PROTECTION SERVICE ON THIS PROJECT SHALL BE UL LISTED. THIS INCLUDES FIRE SPRINKLER HEADS, VALVES, FLOW <br />SWITCHES, ELECTRIC BELLS, TAMPER SWITCHES, CHECK VALVES, ETC. <br />B. SPRINKLER HEADS SHOWN ON THIS SHEET OR IN THIS PLAN SET SHALL BE THE BASIS OF THE DESIGN. EQUAL HEADS BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS WILL BE <br />EVALUATED AND APPROVED IF FUNCTIONALLY EQUIVALENT. <br />FIRE SPRINKLER SPECIFICATIONS AND GENERAL NOTES <br />1. GENERAL PROJECT SCOPE: <br />THIS PROJECT CONCERNS THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW WET -PIPE FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM TO PROTECT AN OFFICE/WAREHOUSE BUILDING. ONE RISER SHALL BE <br />INSTALLED. <br />THE AREAS PROTECTED PER RISER ARE: <br />WAREHOUSE: APPROXIMATELY 9,318 SO. FT. <br />OFFICE: APPROXIMATELY 1.328 SO. Fr. <br />TOTAL: APPROXIMATELY 10,646 SQ.FT. <br />2. DESIGN PARAMETERS: <br />A. SEE THE 61G15 PARAMETERS ON THIS SHEET FOR DESIGN CRITERIA. <br />B. HANGER SPACING AND LOCATIONS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13. <br />C. ALL UNDERGROUND WORK (MATERIAL, INSTALLATION, FLUSHING AND TESTING) IS TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 24. <br />D. FIRE SPRINKLER HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS SHALL MAINTAIN A MINIMUM 10% PRESSURE SAFETY FACTOR. THE SYSTEM PRESSURE SAFETY FACTOR SHALL BE AT <br />LEAST 10% (TEN PERCENT) OF THE REQUIRED RESIDUAL PRESSURE AT THE TEST LOCATION. <br />E. AN AUTOMATIC AIR RELEASE VALVE SHALL BE INSTALLED ON THE FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA 13. <br />3. MATERIALS: <br />A. ALL FIRE PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL BE U.L. LISTED OR FM APPROVED (WHEN APPLICABLE). <br />B. SEE THE 'MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS' SECTION ON THIS SHEET FOR MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS. <br />4. THE FIRE SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING AS-BUILTS. <br />5. ALL PENETRATIONS THRU RATED WALLS/FLOORS SHALL BE FIRE STOPPED/WATERPROOFED TO MATCH THE RATING OF THE WALL/FLOOR. <br />6. AUXILIARY DRAIN VALVES ARE TO BE PROVIDED WHERE PORTIONS OF THE SYSTEM ARE INSTALLED "TRAPPED", IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13. <br />7. HEADS SHALL NOT BE PAINTED AND SHALL BE TEMPORARILY PROTECTED FROM OVERSPRAY WITH PAPER BAGS OR ALUMINUM FOIL. CARE SHALL BE TAKEN AT ALL <br />TIMES NOT TO DAMAGE THE SPRINKLER HEAD'S FRANGIBLE BULB. <br />8. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTION SHALL BE LOCATED WHERE SHOWN ON THESE PLANS. <br />9. THE FIRE SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR SHALL PREPARE A SHOP DRAWING SUBMITTAL AND EQUIPMENT CUTSHEET PACKAGE SUBMITTAL, AND SUBMIT TO THE ENGINEER AND <br />AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION, FOR APPROVAL. APPROVAL OF SHOP DRAWINGS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO STARTING WORK. THE ENGINEER OF <br />RECORD SHALL FURNISH THE FIRE SPRINKLER CONTRACTOR WITH AUTOCAD DRAWINGS, PREPARED WITH HYDRACAD SPRINKLER DESIGN SOFTWARE, FOR USE IN <br />PREPARING SHOP DRAWINGS AND AS-BUILTS. <br />10. THE SYSTEM SHOWN ON THESE PLANS REQUIRES A CONNECTION TO THE UNDERGROUND FIRE PROTECTION MAIN. THE CONTRACTOR WHO INSTALLS THE UNDERGROUND <br />PIPING FROM THE POINT OF SERVICE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLETING THE INSTALLATION TO THE ABOVE GROUND FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM CONNECTION FLANGE OR <br />GROOVED CONNECTION, WHICH BY DEFINITION PER 633.334(3) IS NO MORE THAN 1 FOOT ABOVE THE FINISHED FLOOR (OR FINISHED GRADE FOR OUTSIDE RISERS). <br />ALL FIRE PROTECTION UNDERGROUND DOWNSTREAM OF THE POINT OF SERVICE IDENTIFIED ON THE PLANS SHALL BE INSTALLED BY A LICENSED CLASS I, CLASS II, OR <br />CLASS V FIRE PROTECTION CONTRACTOR AS REQUIRED BY THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL. THE UNDERGROUND CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR APPLYING FOR A <br />SEPARATE UNDERGROUND FIRE MAIN INSTALLATION PERMIT WITH THE LOCAL AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION AND COMPLETING THE CONTRACTOR'S MATERIAL AND TEST <br />CERTIFICATE FOR UNDERGROUND PIPING DOCUMENT. ABOVE GROUND CONTRACTORS MAY NOT COMPLETE THE CONTRACTOR'S MATERIAL AND TEST CERTIFICATE FOR THE <br />UNDERGROUND PIPING OR PORTION THEREOF WHICH HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BY OTHERS. THE UNDERGROUND CONTRACTOR MUST USE EXTREME CARE IN INSTALLING THE <br />RISER STUB -UP EXACTLY WHERE SHOWN AND DIMENSIONED ON THIS PLAN. <br />11. QUICK RESPONSE SPRINKLER HEADS SHALL BE INSTALLED THROUGHOUT LIGHT HAZARD AREAS (UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED). <br />12. THIS IS A CENTER -OF -TILE INSTALLATION. IN STORAGE AND MECHANICAL ROOMS IT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY TO CENTER HEADS IN THE CEILING GRID. <br />13. FIRE SPRINKLER PROTECTION SHALL BE PROVIDED UNDER OBSTRUCTIONS OVER 48" IN WIDTH (SUCH AS DUCTWORK), IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13. SEE THE <br />ARCHITECTURAL, MECHANICAL, AND ELECTRICAL PLANS FOR FEATURES OR EQUIPMENT THAT MAY REQUIRE FIRE SPRINKLER PROTECTION UNDER OBSTRUCTIONS. IN ORDER <br />TO MEET THIS SPECIFICATION, INCLUDE AN ADDITIONAL TEN (10) FIRE SPRINKLER HEAD ALLOWANCE IN BUDGET PRICING FOR PROVIDING COVERAGE UNDER <br />OBSTRUCTIONS OR FOR OTHER UNFORESEEN CONDITIONS. BUDGET PRICING SHALL INCLUDE ASSOCIATED LABOR, PIPE, FITTINGS, HANGERS, ETC. RELATED TO THE <br />ADDITIONAL HEAD ALLOWANCE. <br />FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM TESTING REQUIREMENTS <br />1. PER NFPA 13 (2016), SECTION 25.2.1, THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM SHALL BE HYDROSTATICALLY TESTED AS FOLLOWS: <br />25.2.1 HYDROSTATIC TESTS. <br />25.2.1.1 UNLESS PERMITTED BY 25.2.1.2 THROUGH 25.2.1.5, ALL PIPING AND ATTACHED APPURTENANCES SUBJECTED TO SYSTEM WORKING PRESSURE SHALL BE <br />APPLICABLE HYDROSTATICALLY TESTED AT 200 PSI (13.8 BAR) AND SHALL MAINTAIN THAT PRESSURE WITHOUT LOSS FOR 2 HOURS. <br />ON THIS 25.2.1.2 PORTIONS OF SYSTEMS NORMALLY SUBJECTED TO SYSTEM WORKING PRESSURES IN EXCESS OF 150 PSI (10.4 BAR) SHALL BE TESTED AS DESCRIBED IN <br />PROJECT 25.2.1.1, AT A PRESSURE OF 50 PSI (3.5 BAR) IN EXCESS OF SYSTEM WORKING PRESSURE. <br />25.2.1.3 WHERE COLD WEATHER WILL NOT PERMIT TESTING WITH WATER, AN INTERIM AIR TEST SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE CONDUCTED AS DESCRIBED IN 25.2.2. <br />THIS PROVISION SHALL NOT REMOVE OR REPLACE THE REQUIREMENT FOR CONDUCTING THE HYDROSTATIC TEST AS DESCRIBED IN 25.2.1.1. <br />25.2.1.4 MODIFICATIONS TO EXISTING PIPING SYSTEMS SHALL REQUIRE TESTING AT SYSTEM WORKING PRESSURE. <br />25.2.1.4.1 WHERE MODIFICATION IS MADE TO AN EXISTING SYSTEM AFFECTING MORE THAN 20 SPRINKLERS, THE NEW PORTION SHALL BE ISOLATED AND TESTED <br />AT NOT LESS THAN 200 PSI (13.8 BAR) FOR 2 HOURS. <br />25.2.1.4.2 MODIFICATIONS THAT CANNOT BE ISOLATED, SUCH AS RELOCATED DROPS, SHALL REQUIRE TESTING AT SYSTEM WORKING PRESSURE. <br />25.2.1.5 THE TEST PRESSURE SHALL BE READ FROM A GAUGE LOCATED AT THE LOW ELEVATION POINT OF THE SYSTEM OR PORTION BEING TESTED. THE PRESSURES <br />IN PIPING AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE LESS THAN 200 PSI (13.8 BAR) WHEN ACCOUNTING FOR ELEVATION LOSSES. SYSTEMS OR <br />PORTIONS OF SYSTEMS THAT CAN BE ISOLATED SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE TESTED SEPARATELY. <br />25.2.1.6 ADDITIVES, CORROSIVE CHEMICALS SUCH AS SODIUM SILICATE, OR DERIVATIVES OF SODIUM SILICATE, BRINE, OR SIMILAR ACTING CHEMICALS SHALL NOT BE <br />USED WHILE HYDROSTATICALLY TESTING SYSTEMS OR FOR STOPPING LEAKS. <br />25.2.1.7 PIPING BETWEEN THE EXTERIOR FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTION AND THE CHECK VALVE IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INLET PIPE SHALL BE HYDROSTATICALLY <br />TESTED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE BALANCE OF THE SYSTEM. AFTER REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT WORK AFFECTING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONNECTION, <br />THE PIPING BETWEEN THE EXTERIOR AND THE CHECK VALVE IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT INLET PIPE SHALL BE ISOLATED AND HYDROSTATICALLY TESTED AT <br />150 PSI (10.3 BAR). <br />25.2.1.8 WHEN SYSTEMS ARE BEING HYDROSTATICALLY TESTED, TESTS SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE CONDUCTED WITH PENDENT OR HORIZONTAL SIDEWALL SPRINKLERS <br />OR PLUGS INSTALLED IN FITTINGS.
