Report of Concrete Slab Evaluation RE&A Project No. 2825-15-023-SE-A
ExistinTKM Aviation Hangar June 27 2017
• Based on the information provided by representatives of TKM and CANCO, we
understand that as part of site preparation, 4 to 5 inches of top soil were removed and 1
foot of compacted fill was added and was left to set for about 2 months before concrete
was poured. ,
• Once the concrete was poured (approximately 1 year ago) for a 6-inch thick concrete
slab, the expansion joints to a depth of little over 1 inch were saw-cut on the same da.y,
and the slab was left to set for about 7 to 8 months. The exterior and interior slabs were
pinned together.
• Based on the information provided by A-1 Block Corporation, the concrete mix design
used for the project, Mix ID 3057FNA, was designed to have slump range of 4 to 6 and
strength of 3000 psi. I
• Based on the information provided by Taylor Testing Laboratories, the 7-day and 28-day
compressive strengths of the 3 sets collected during concrete placement were in the range
 of 2,770 to 3,790 psi and 4,670 to 4,870 psi, respectively. '
• We also understand that the fmal construction at the site was completed earlier this year,
and the epoxy coating was applied on the slab in February of 2017.
• The residents moved in and sta.rted operations in March of 2017, which was when they
started noticing the cracks through the epoxy.
Summary of RE&A Field Explorations
' • In order to evaluate the concrete and soil conditions, RE&A performed a series of nine
(9) concrete cores — six (6) cores of 6 inch diameter, and three (3) cores of 3 inch
diameter— in the distressed areas on May 2nd and 4, 2017. Four (4) of the 6-inch core
locations were hand augered, supplemented with dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP)
testing. Please refer to attached Test Location Plan (Sheet 1) in the Appendix for
approximate test locations.
3
