The building thermal envelope shall comply with Sections R402.4 1 1 and R402.4.1.2.The
sealing methods between dissimilar materials shall allow for differential expansion arid contraction.
• R402.4.1.1 Installation. The components of the bui(ding therrnal envelope as(isted in Tab(e R402.4.1.1 shalbe installed in
aocordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the criteria listed in Table 402.4.1.1,as applicable to the method of construction.
Where required by ihe cade oificial,an approved third party sha((inspect aif components and verify compiiance.
■ R402.4.1.2 Testing. The building or dwelling unit shail be tested and verified as having an air leakage rate of not exceeding 5 air
changes per haur in Glimate Zones 1 and 2,and 3 air changes per hour in Glimate 2ones 3 thraugh 8.Tesfing shaf2 be conducted with
a blower doar at a pressure of 0.2 inches w.g.(50 Pascais).Where required by the code official,testing shal(be canducted by an
approved third party.A written report of the results of the test shall be signed by the party conducting the test and provided to the code
officiaL Testing shal!be perfarmed at any time aRer creatian of a!!penetratians af the bui(ding iherma!envelope.
During testing:
1.Etierior windows and doars,fireplace and stove doors shall be closed,but not sealed,beyond the intended weatherstripping or
other infi]tration contro(measures,
2.Dampers including exhaust,intake,makeup air,backdraft and flue dampers shall be closed,but not sealed beyond intended
infiltration control measures;
3,lnterior doors,if installed at ihe time af the test,shall be open;
4.EMerior doors for continuous ventilation systems and heat recovery ventilators shall be closed and sealed;
5.Heating and cooling systems,if installed at the tirne of the tesi,shall be turned off;and
- 6.Supply and retum registers,if instaRed at the fime ot fhe fest,shall he fu(ly open.
O R402.4.2 Fireplaces.
