DONNELLY ENGINEERING ELECTRICAL <br /> SECTION 16450 <br /> GROUNDING <br /> PART 1 -GENERAL <br /> 1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS <br /> A. General: Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary <br /> Conditions and Division 1 Specification sections, apply to work specified of this section. <br /> 1.2 DESCRIPTION <br /> A. Description of System: In general, all electrical equipment (metallic conduit, motor frames, <br /> panelboards, etc.) shall be bonded together with a green insulated or bare copper system grounding <br /> conductor in accordance with specific rules of Article 250 of the N.E.C. Bonding conductor through <br /> the raceway system shall be continuous from main switch ground bus to panel ground bar of each <br /> panelboard, and from panel grounding bar of each panelboard to branch circuit equipment and <br /> devices. <br /> B. Ground Conductor: A main ground, insulated copper conductor, NEC sized but in no case less than <br /> #2/0 AWG, shall be run in conduit from 'the Main Switchgear to a driven ground field outside the <br /> building. This ground conductor shall also be bonded to the main water service and the metal frame <br /> of the building nearest the Main panel or main breaker. Provide properly sized bonding shunt around <br /> water meter and dielectric unions in the water pipe. <br /> C. Preparation: All contact surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned before connections are made to insure <br /> good metal to metal contact. <br /> D. Bonding: Mechanical double lugs or wire terminals shall be used to bond ground wires to junction <br /> boxes and panel cabinets and shall be manufactured by Anderson, Buchanan, Thomas and Betts <br /> Co., or Burndy. Exothermic connections shall be provided at ground rods and main bonding on steel. <br /> E. Exterior Grade Equipment: All exterior grade mounted equipment shall have their enclosures <br /> grounded directly to the building ground connection. Utilizing the power feeder or circuit green <br /> insulated ground. <br /> F. Conductors: All raceways shall have an insulated copper system ground conductor run throughout <br /> the entire length of the circuit installed within conduit in strict accordance with NEC. Grounding <br /> conductor shall be included in total conduit fill determining conduit sizes, even though not included or <br /> shown on drawings. Grounding conductors run with feeders shall be green insulated only. <br /> G. Bushings: Provide insulated grounding bushings on all conduits within all panelboards. <br /> 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br /> A. Compliance: The entire ground system shall comply with NEC 250.
