<br />0. PIPE, FITTINGS, VALVES, EQUIPMENT AND OTHER ITEMS TO BE INSULATED SHALL BE DRY AND THOROUGHLY
<br />CLEANED OF ANY FOREIGN MATTER BEFORE INSULATION IS APPLIED.
<br />P. DO NOT COVER NAMEPLATES, STAMPING AND OTHER IDENTIFICATION PLATES ON EQUIPMENT.
<br />Q. SHUTOFF VALVES IN INSULATED LINES SHALL BE COMPLETELY COVERED, EXCEPT STEMS SHALL PROTRUDE.
<br />R. WHERE INSULATION IS TERMINATED OR NOT APPLIED OVER CERTAIN PORTIONS OF VARIOUS VALVES AND
<br />STRAINERS, AS STATED ABOVE, EXPOSED EDGE OF INSULATION AT OPENING AND ITEM BEING INSULATED SHALL
<br />BE THOROUGHLY AND COMPLETELY SEALED WITH A SUITABLE SEALING COMPOUND.
<br />S. INSTALL PIPE COVERING CONTINUOUSLY THROUGH FLOOR AND WALL SLEEVES, HANGERS AND SUPPORTS.
<br />WHERE INSULATED LINES PENETRATE WALLS INTO AREAS THAT ALLOW REDUCED INSULATION THICKNESS OR NO
<br />INSULATION, HEAVIER MATERIALS SHALL EXTEND A MINIMUM OF 2 FEET BEFORE A CHANGE IN THICKNESS IS
<br />MADE.
<br />T. USE OF STAPLES FOR ANY PURPOSE IS PROHIBITED, EXCEPT WHERE SPECIFICALLY NOTED, AND NOT
<br />ACCEPTABLE FOR SERVICE TEMPERATURES BELOW 50 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.
<br />U. NO WHEAT PASTE, MOLD OR BACTERIA BREEDING, OR SUSTAINING, ORGANIC MATERIALS SHALL BE USED.
<br />V. PROVIDE NECESSARY EXPANSION OR CONTRACTION JOINTS IN INSULATION AND JACKETING TO ALLOW FOR
<br />DIMENSION CHANGES WHEN PIPE AND EQUIPMENT ARE PLACED IN SERVICE.
<br />3.04 INSTALLATION - PIPE INSULATION
<br />A. GENERAL:
<br />1. TIGHTLY BUTT LONGITUDINAL SEAMS AND END JOINTS. BOND WITH ADHESIVE.
<br />2. STAGGER JOINTS ON DOUBLE LAYERS OF INSULATION.
<br />3. APPLY INSULATION CONTINUOUSLY OVER FITTINGS, VALVES AND SPECIALTIES, EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE
<br />INDICATED. FOR CHILLED WATER OR REFRIGERATION APPLICATIONS, THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.
<br />4. APPLY INSULATION WITH A MINIMUM NUMBER OF JOINTS.
<br />5. PROVIDE PIPE SADDLES UNDER ALL INSULATED PIPING AT SUPPORTS AND PIPE HANGERS.
<br />6. APPLY INSULATION WITH INTEGRAL JACKETS AS FOLLOWS:
<br />a. PULL JACKET TIGHT AND SMOOTH.
<br />b. COVER CIRCUMFERENTIAL JOINTS WITH BUTT STRIPS, AT LEAST 3 INCHES WIDE, AND OF SAME MATERIAL AS
<br />INSULATION JACKET. SECURE WITH ADHESIVE AND OUTWARD CLINCHING STAPLES ALONG BOTH EDGES OF
<br />BUTT STRIP AND SPACE 4 INCHES ON CENTER.
<br />c. LONGITUDINAL SEAMS:
<br />1) GENERAL: OVERLAP SEAMS AT LEAST 1-1/2 INCHES. APPLY INSULATION WITH LONGITUDINAL SEAMS AT
<br />BOTTOM OF PIPE. CLEAN AND DRY SURFACE TO RECEIVE SELF-SEALING LAP. STAPLE LAPS WITH
<br />OUTWARD CLINCHING STAPLES ALONG EDGE AT 4 INCHES ON CENTER.
<br />2) EXCEPTION: DO NOT STAPLE LONGITUDINAL LAPS ON INSULATION APPLIED TO PIPING SYSTEMS WITH
<br />SURFACE TEMPERATURES AT OR BELOW 35 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT.
<br />d. VAPOR BARRIER COATINGS: WHERE VAPOR BARRIERS ARE INDICATED, APPLY ON SEAMS AND JOINTS, OVER
<br />STAPLES, AND AT ENDS BUTT TO FLANGES, UNIONS, VALVES AND FITTINGS.
<br />e. AT JACKET PENETRATIONS FOR THERMOMETERS AND PRESSURE GAGES, FILL AND SEAL VOIDS WITH VAPOR
<br />BARRIER COATING.
<br />f. REPAIR DAMAGED INSULATION JACKETS, EXCEPT METAL JACKETS, BY APPLYING JACKET MATERIAL AROUND
<br />DAMAGED JACKET. ADHERE, STAPLE, AND SEAL. EXTEND PATCH AT LEAST 2 INCHES IN BOTH DIRECTIONS
<br />BEYOND DAMAGED INSULATION JACKET AND AROUND ENTIRE CIRCUMFERENCE OF PIPE.
<br />7. ROOF PENETRATIONS: APPLY INSULATION FOR INTERIOR APPLICATIONS TO A POINT EVEN WITH TOP OF ROOF
<br />FLASHING. SEAL WITH VAPOR BARRIER COATING. APPLY INSULATION FOR EXTERIOR APPLICATIONS BUTTED
<br />TIGHTLY TO INTERIOR INSULATION ENDS. EXTEND METAL JACKET FOR EXTERIOR INSULATION OUTSIDE ROOF
