db t
AWLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Hoot Deck: Use only over ra well -seasoned, supported wood deck tightly
constructed with maximum 6" wide lumber, having adequate nati-holding
capacity. Plywood docking as recommended by the Engineered Wood
Asuclatlon Is acceptable.
For ridge vent to function properly, It must be the only high or exhaust vent
for the venW attic space. Ridge vents will not function properly 11 used In
conjunction with gable -end louvers, turbines, roof verft or power vends.
Slope Restrictions-, Use only on slopes between 3/12 and 16/12
STEP 1
Calculations for a Balanced Ventilation System
To achieve a "balamed systlem" with Cobre Ridge Runnerridge vent, there
must be an air inta0ce system (i.e., softie or undereave vents). For proper von, tilation,
the amount of undereave ventilation must equal the amount of ventlief at
the ridge. KM: In no cake should the amount of exhaust ventilation exceed the
amount of intake ventilation..
To determine the minimum- square feet of not free ventilating area {NFVA.)
needed for a balanced ventilation system, use the following formula:
Sg. ft. of attic floor shade
300
= Min. S4. ft., of NFVA needed
COW Ridge FtunnW ridge vent has 12.5 square Inches of NFVA per lineal foot.
To determirlie how many feet of Cobra" Ridge Runner -ridge vent is needed,
use the fallowing formula:
1/2 x {Min. Sq. ft, of NFVA needed) x 144 112.5 = Min. lineal foot of ridge
vent needed
To determine the amount of undereave vent nKpdred, use the following formula:
X = NFVA (Sq. In. per. tint, it.) of ft undereave vet or Intake vent
system selected
V x (Min. Sq. R. of NFVA needed) x 144/X = Min, lineal feet of undereave
STEP 2 vent needed
Instruction For Slots
Attar calculating the total length of Cobra* Ridge Runner -ridge vent needed,
determine the necessary slot opening requW.
Dote: If installing on an existing roof, remove the cap shingles from the ridge.
Roots without a ridge board: cut an opening along the ridge, na" on each side of the
roof ridge (Figure A).
Roofs with a ridge hoard. cul an opening along the ridge,11la" on each side of the roof
ridge )Figure 8).
Note: Maximum slot opening is 31A" wide.
Mark off and cut the slot opening, making sure that the ends of the opening stop at
least ti ° from any end walls or hip Intersections and 12" from chimneys (Fipre C).
Where short ridges (dormers, ridge intersections) are used, marts and cut the slot
making sure that tfte end of the opening stops at lent 12" from the ridge intersection
(Figure D).
0`x I I tent Rai
Fig. A
No Ridoe Board
Fig.
With i • Board
Fig. C
Mt M1MM1MIIMMl
r 'A
Fig.
it
Copyright'c 2000 Windward homes No portion may be copied or reproduced without the prior written permission of Windward Homes
Share drive W: Quality Control Checklist;Roofing (680)/ Roofing Install Shingle Final t:aroup 680 rev 03-16-07 /Page 3 of
zy
m
Z
Windwardj Homes
PLAN © 2003 WINDWARD HOMES.
